I have continued working past 65 and plan on retiring at 67.5. For Medicare plan B, my 2022/23 salary will cause MUCH higher premiums. Can I file a "change of life" with retirement date where my salary will be social security only?
Yes, you can use the SSA 44 to request an IRMAA redetermination through your local Social Security office. Here is a link to the form: www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-44.pdf
Hi. I am a State of NJ retiree who will be going on Medicare this November. I currently have the State of NJ retiree healthcare and have had since retiring 10 years ago. I've contacted Personnel about the state's Medicare Advantage plan. They stated that if I choose their Medicare Advantage plan, nothing will change and that I will be automatically enrolled once I provide them with my Part A and B membership numbers. I will be getting my card in August from Medicare due to taking Social Security at 62, 3 years ago. What do you think of their plan? Should I go through with it? I was a staunch believer in a Medigap plan until speaking with Personnel. They have changed my mind and have made their plan seem seamless. I'm concerned their plan wont cover me if I get injured out of state. Any insight would be appreciated. Oh, I believe their plan may be an Aetna plan. Thanks!
Hi Rob, we don't have much firsthand experience with the State of NJ coverage. Still, after speaking with other brokers in New Jersey, it should generally be good coverage, depending on how long you were employed by the State.
