if you do have a fire, when the fd shows up let them know you have a safe and where it is and hopefully they can get a line on it to keep it cool.. years ago the building my dads business was in caught fire which spread to his office. his filing cabinets happened to be inside the door where the fire department was spraying the water. it saved most of his paperwork from being destroyed. shipping, receiving, accounts payable, inventory, etc
Really cool about warranty and installation. Per usual, you've sold me on it. Not that I have a need for a safe yet, but eventually I'll need one. Liberty was smart getting you a safe to review! Also really smart with putting your security system in there. Seems obvious in retrospect, but I doubt I would have even thought to do that.
The only bad thing about safe's is the fact that when guns sit alone in the darkness of a safe there is obviously some gun hanky panky going on in there, because every so often I open my safe and find I have more guns over time until its time to buy another safe, then another, etc etc......
Good review...like always. I'm glad you touched on the RSC issue. We'd all love to have a true TL-30 rated safe but the price of those things is simply beyond most people's budget. It is, however, critical to understand what a RSC is and what it isn't. Because it would be a bummer if someone decided to forgo firearms insurance because they thought they had a better safe than what they actually bought and then the thing gets broken into. Whatever price point you're buying, make sure you understand the level of security that it provides.
When it comes to security, you get what you pay for. Also, if you're going to store extremely valuable items, it might be a good idea to have two safes. One should be in a visible location or a place where it can be easily found and will serve as a decoy. The 2nd safe should be well hidden. Maybe behind a false wall or inside cabinetry. Always keep some money and a few items in the decoy safe in case of home invasion and you're forced to open it. Some counterfeit gold coins of fake diamond jewelry would be great.
If one of those cables goes bad you have a big problem. I understand they put it on the back to protect it but with no access you could be screwed. A side access with a secured cover plate would be a good idea.

I bought from "The Safe House" in Nashville TN. Great guys and awesome delivery service. It's definitely worth the money to get a size larger than you think you'll need and one with the electrical outlets already installed. Otherweise you end up having to drill through it etc like I did. :(
Liberty was my 1st safe. Time to go BIGGER - I prefer the S & G spinner myself. Also like the fact that if the handle gets turned while the door is open - just turn it to retract the bolts. Most other safes you have to enter the code even with the door open. Nice review
I own 2 Liberty safes and really like them both. Your comment of it being a " metal storage container" is spot on. The sad thing though is a thug with a side grinder and 20 to 30 minutes is going to go through the side and peel it back. They will never touch the door or locking bolts.
The fact is that most crooks don't know how to get in a safe and attack the door. Period. This is why it still makes sense to fortify the door and lock.

Great review! I see a lot of people discussing the electronic lock.. As of this time, Liberty warranties the electronic locks for 5 years.. You can opt for a lifetime upgrade on the lock for $99.. Not too bad in my opinion..
I just picked up a steelwater and I was really going to go with liberty but the deal breaker for me was the thickness of the steel. and 2 hour fire time was great! I hope you enjoy your new safe too time to fill it up!!
Probably cheaper than all the radio advertisements I used to hear them doing. It's really smart on their end because it gets their product right to their target audience and it stays online forever so when people start searching for safes they find all of the reviews for them.
Nice safe man! Once I really got into guns, I got a Liberty safe. Big enough for what I have and fits somewhere out of sight. I love mine, and will be buying another Liberty down the road. Glad you like it!
My safe isn't a liberty safe.With that said. I'm totally pick'n up what you're putting down. I noticed that both the mechanical and the electronic lock options both are from Seargent & Greenleaf. They make some of the most secure locking mechanisms on the market. During my time as an MP in the USMC my responsibilities included physical security. The USMC only used S&G locks for mission essential classified areas during my time as an Active duty Marine. If (more like when) I need another safe, I'm looking really hard at liberty safes.
Its bolted to the floor in the wrong orientation to the corner. If you rotate the safe 90 deg so the opening edge of the door is along side the wall, it will provide protection against pry bar attacks as there is no room to use a pry bar of any size.
Sure, but I wouldn't have been able to open the back door. Regardless, without getting a safe like this on its back, even a large man will have a hard time getting enough leverage on a prybar to gain entry into the safe before LE arrives.
I Love Liberty safes I've got 1 fatboy and 2 Franklyns. And I have had one warranty replaced after a break in. be sure to keep ALL your receipts, it's kind of a pain to get all the documentation together with police reports and locksmith reports and such, but they did send me a coupon for a brand new safe after it was all done. Enjoy that safe it's a baller one for sure.
I have a Liberty Franklin 40 - 110 minute fire rating, level 5 security. It also has the new hardened military style locking bars - 14 of them. There is just no safe like a Liberty. They’re simply the very best.
Mount the safe in a safe area when ever possible - built in is even better, Mount with the left side against wall so pry bar thieves will have less room to pry.

WRT Rifle Rods, in my experience, the soft velcro liner is vital. While it appears that the built-in liner is holding the velcro pad at first, over time, it will lose its grip, causing your rifles to tip over unexpectedly. Never had that problem when I used the velcro add-on.
15 minutes, with a 4-1/2" Standard Cordless Angle Grinder will go right through the left side, it will peel like a onion, even your common thugs now knows that there’s no protection on the sides and they don’t even waste your time on the door, Bolting it down with is a must, build a form around it and concrete and rebar it in,
It takes longer than that, and even 15 minutes is enough time for LE response. As I mentioned in the video, the very large safe dealer has replaced many Liberty safes that were damaged by burglars, but not a single safe ever had anything removed.
TWANGnBANG - Wasn’t talking about removing the whole safe, talking about protecting the Vulnerable sides and top, it’s only 11 gauge steel, that’s why I went with the Fort Knox guardian, at least it’s 5/16 steel and even then I opted for the armor Knox and the stainless steel package, I don’t want to frighten you but in the angle grinder will go through that 11 gauge steel faster than you think, trying not to come off as a hater, I’m just trying to suggest how you can improve on what you have, for $100 more you can invest in some concrete rebar and some plywood to build form, all these residential security containers put their strength in the door, but you need to stiffen up the sides and top,

Again, even though burglars have succeeded in cutting INTO Liberty safes in this area, none were successful at stealing anything that was contained WITHIN them. Plenty of strategies you can do to increase the time it takes someone to cut into your safe if you so desire
There are multiple layers of security...the burglar would have to be more than a common thief to break into most safes. Alarm, motion, surveillance, dogs, etc...the addition of a wall like you mentioned would be another. However in 15 minutes you have first me to deal with and shortly after police it’s not easy with today’s layers of security.
All of what you said sounds good but the bad guy is going in from the side with a battery-powered circular saw. He is going to be in your safe in a couple of minutes It doesn't matter how much you paid for your safe it can be cut into A thicker wall will just be a couple minutes more.
after current developments I subjest you get your safe converted to a manual dial ASAP or if you have a manual one with libertys code dial change out the dial ASAP
Actually I ended up with two 48 gun safes for $2600 delivered and set up, but they were on sale and it was 3 years ago now... a bit of a premium but more space too. I later bought and installed a jewelry drawer from Liberty for the missus and very happy with it. The door organizers were later added as well -- and a must have if you own revolvers. Great video as always. I hadn't thought of putting a drive in the safe with important papers, etc. I have thumb drives with info I want safe. I recommend buying as much safe as you can afford up front, and add accessories as you need/can afford them. I'd be interested in a short follow-up video showing how much room the rods save you, if they are practical, etc.
$2,300? Wow, while not a small amount of money, that sounds very reasonable. I saw my wife's friend's safe this past weekend, it was a Fort Knox. Taller than yours and maybe a little wider with interior lighting but he said it cost $5,500!
Yes, even Liberty makes safes that top out at over $7000. Fort Knox is another great safe company, BTW. Time is money when it comes to safes- what you're paying for is more time for law enforcement or fire trucks to show up and save your stuff.
The warranty was my deciding factor in choosing my liberty fat boy I love the safe I just wish it was bigger but if it was it wouldn't fit through the door. I chose the d-drive lock and the also have a motion sensor that text messages you when your safe is bumped and opened I think the interior lights suck but they were easy to upgrade.
A little misleading on the USB drive and networking statements. Those ports are just pass through. In order to get that data out to your home network you would need a PC or some other device on the outside of the safe for the external USB to plug in to. So either a REALLY long USB to reach a PC/network device to share the external drive or something right next to the safe. The safe on its own does not have the ability to host and share the external drive with your home network.
Never said the safe was a networked device. You set a router on the safe, then run your ethernet or USB to the ports in the safe, connecting your drive inside the safe.
Nearly all RSCs have fireboard for fireproofing. Interior is not lined with carpet- it’s a fabric of some kind, though. As I mentioned in the video, they seem to be hard enough to get into that the largest dealer in the area has yet to see one where thieves got something out.
You stagger your guns you turn one gun upside down and the other gun right side up and that way you can pack your safe full. And you can take the bolts out of your bolt action rifles
Liberty safes have good prices, but the doors aren't removable (internal hinges). This makes it much more difficult to move, especially if it needs to go up or down stairs.
One note of caution with regards to any safe. I think it's worth noting that storing ammunition or loaded mags in the same safe as your firearms and other valuables can reduce it's effectiveness in the case of a fire. Firearms can withstand pretty serious ambient temperature extremes (especially metal frame pistols) when not exposed to direct flame or combustion. However the same cannot be said for ammunition. There is a scenario during a fire where the ammunition will begin to cook off inside your safe causing much more damage to your valuables where those valuables may well have survived when only subjected to the high ambient temperature. I've seen claims that 22LR begins to cook off at around 275-300 degrees, where as a Glock frame is still viable at that temperature. My personal selection was the Mag Storage Solutions magazine holders on the left side of my safe. They make a magnetic attachment kit that allows you to stick them right to the side of your safe. They are plenty strong enough to hold up 6 fully loaded PMAGs. Not necessarily trying to push their products there may be better options out there, but it seemed to work pretty good for me. It keeps loaded mags close to the firearms for quick access, but keeps them on the outside of your fire rated container. Lastly, I'd just like to say that I enjoy the channel and appreciate your hard work. Thanks!
Gen 1 USP40. My brother bought it the first year it came out, and he gave it to me when he moved to NYC. Not really a fan of it, actually. Feels chunky and clunky.
I'm curious how much heat a PC or security camera system in the safe would cause. Perhaps you could put a thermometer in there and let us know. It probably won't be enough to hurt anything but it would be good to prove.
Wife and I bought a Liberty Colonial 35cu.ft. safe after buying our new house 14 years ago. It has smooth finish and automotive quality paint laid on it. I too went for the mechanical dial locking system. I have recommended several folks to Liberty and they bought them one.
Jim Duyck Locksmiths have the luxuries of time and security. Picking a lock won't damage it, and you can take as long as you need if you're a legitimate tradesman. It's the right method most times.
Top notch video as usual, thank you. Question: How are you going to access the data on the HD if it's inside the safe? Does the HD have a built in Wi-Fi? if so how does it penetrate the metal box? If there is a USB cable connected on the other side of the Hub can't thieves just plug into the cable and get to the info? I guess if you're going to use encryption software that would help. I also think what I'm asking is for a video dedicated to the whole electronics set up you're going to have once you're done with it. that's the part that really interested me. One other question, how do you coordinate what's in here vs. the hidden in wall locker?
You answered your own question about how to access the drive inside the safe (USB cable). I mention in the video that the drive would contain stuff that I simply wouldn't want to lose but not stuff too worrisome if it's stolen. If a thief want to waste time hacking the drive while police rolled up on him, all the more reason to have it. I store my primary home defense guns in my Tactical Walls storage compartments. All other guns are stored in safes. Thanks for the great questions.
Love your videos, Carolina man myself (Coastal), however... Putting your "safe" in the same room as your tools is ill-advised in my opinion. Also, with fire, comes water. How about water tightness. That's why Liberty makes RSCs, not safes. Look at a Fort Knox.
There are no tools in this room capable of getting into the safe. The basement would need to be flooded 5" before water could enter the safe, and that's only if there were no fire in the basement to begin with. Once the Palusol is activated, the safe is water tight. Thanks for watching.
Heat is how they work. Non-electric dehumidifier are great for safes that don't have power, but they must be recharged pretty frequently, and if you drop them, they bust open like a piñata. Guess how I know.
It wasn’t easy at all for them, actually. They needed a ladder and full access to all sides of the safe. Plus, they admit that they went through multiple cutting wheels to get through. Nobody is going to do all that they did without the police showing up to catch them.
Crazy question, if you could actually remove the shelves and wanted to hide from burglars in there instead of using your guns, (I know what you're thinking but just work with me here) could you lock yourself in from the inside and wait until they left and then open the locked safe from the inside? Think Panic Safe versus Panic Room...........my wife would love this!!!!!!
Good point - many people are and you are NOT alone. I actually thought about that as well but failed to mention it. I would of course store a large bottle of o2 in there as well that would last several hours.
If someone were to break in it would be easiest to go thru the side. They always make the door so crazy secure. Also don't keep your proof of gun pics and serial number hard drive in the same safe. I would put that in a safety deposit box.
That’s why it’s bolted to the floor in a corner. They can only access one side, and I have a lot of heavy stuff they have to move before even getting to that side. Even then, by the time they finish cutting the side, deputies will be here.
No. You spin the combo dial, and the key lock doesn’t work. It’s just a convenience put there for retailers or people who might be in the house but don’t want their kids getting in the safe.
i went with an import amsec because it's what a local safe and vault company sells. for the same price i could have gone down to gander mountain or whoever sells liberty and bought a safe double the size, better fire rating and made in the usa. i was a little upset after i saw the safes there. lol now i know.
Falling Teepee yeah i see that now. lol. at a much higher cost than liberty too tho my local safe dealer didn't really have the best prices compared to other companies. the one benefit i do have tho is whenever i move and want to take the safe, they'll come and move it for free within a certain milage and install it there too. i got the FV series i think it is. the newish line they came out with. basically the economy line with a higher fire rating.
I have a question for you safe guys. Why have none of these companies come out with a lazy suzan style design for the inside? Maybe I'm wrong, but, I think that type of design, instead of the shelves, would offer great storage, with more ease of access. It Looks like a very well built safe, and is something I'm shopping for in the near future.

If your security conscious a home invasion should not happen. Keep your doors locked, cameras, motion sensors, lights, and of course, many many guns.

Electronic locks break waayyy too often. Some say it’s not a matter of if, but when it’ll break.
Current Cabela's (Liberty) electronic lock is well over 15 years old and I've never had had an issue....

Composite doors are not very good. I would only by a safe with a steel door

You should put the safe next to the door at 1:00. This way when they use a crowbar there is no lever. They wil hit the wall just a extra tip.

It takes longer than that, and even 15 minutes is enough time for LE response. As I mentioned in the video, the very large safe dealer has replaced many Liberty safes that were damaged by burglars, but not a single safe ever had anything removed.

Again, even though burglars have succeeded in cutting INTO Liberty safes in this area, none were successful at stealing anything that was contained WITHIN them. Plenty of strategies you can do to increase the time it takes someone to cut into your safe if you so desire
There are multiple layers of security...the burglar would have to be more than a common thief to break into most safes. Alarm, motion, surveillance, dogs, etc...the addition of a wall like you mentioned would be another. However in 15 minutes you have first me to deal with and shortly after police it’s not easy with today’s layers of security.

All of what you said sounds good but the bad guy is going in from the side with a battery-powered circular saw. He is going to be in your safe in a couple of minutes It doesn't matter how much you paid for your safe it can be cut into A thicker wall will just be a couple minutes more.

after current developments I subjest you get your safe converted to a manual dial ASAP or if you have a manual one with libertys code dial change out the dial ASAP
When it comes to emp, I belive it is illegal to use an emp on us soil. But you could always outsource the testing

I couldn't get a fatboy through the entrance to my house so I got two smaller Liberty models. VERY satisfied, and their build quality is outstanding.
I'm also a fan of having multiple smaller safes instead of just one big one, but that is more money. It's a budget choice for many.
Actually I ended up with two 48 gun safes for $2600 delivered and set up, but they were on sale and it was 3 years ago now... a bit of a premium but more space too. I later bought and installed a jewelry drawer from Liberty for the missus and very happy with it. The door organizers were later added as well -- and a must have if you own revolvers. Great video as always. I hadn't thought of putting a drive in the safe with important papers, etc. I have thumb drives with info I want safe. I recommend buying as much safe as you can afford up front, and add accessories as you need/can afford them. I'd be interested in a short follow-up video showing how much room the rods save you, if they are practical, etc.

I saw my wife's friend's safe this past weekend, it was a Fort Knox. Taller than yours and maybe a little wider with interior lighting but he said it cost $5,500!
Yes, even Liberty makes safes that top out at over $7000. Fort Knox is another great safe company, BTW. Time is money when it comes to safes- what you're paying for is more time for law enforcement or fire trucks to show up and save your stuff.

The warranty was my deciding factor in choosing my liberty fat boy I love the safe I just wish it was bigger but if it was it wouldn't fit through the door. I chose the d-drive lock and the also have a motion sensor that text messages you when your safe is bumped and opened I think the interior lights suck but they were easy to upgrade.

A little misleading on the USB drive and networking statements. Those ports are just pass through. In order to get that data out to your home network you would need a PC or some other device on the outside of the safe for the external USB to plug in to. So either a REALLY long USB to reach a PC/network device to share the external drive or something right next to the safe. The safe on its own does not have the ability to host and share the external drive with your home network.
Never said the safe was a networked device. You set a router on the safe, then run your ethernet or USB to the ports in the safe, connecting your drive inside the safe.

Have heard that sides are carpet and sheet rock under thin exterior walls. Have also heard they are not that hard to break into.
Nearly all RSCs have fireboard for fireproofing. Interior is not lined with carpet- it’s a fabric of some kind, though. As I mentioned in the video, they seem to be hard enough to get into that the largest dealer in the area has yet to see one where thieves got something out.

You stagger your guns you turn one gun upside down and the other gun right side up and that way you can pack your safe full. And you can take the bolts out of your bolt action rifles

If Indiana Jones can ride out a nuclear blast in a refrigerator, I'd say this safe would be a great place to shelter you and your entire family.
Liberty safes have good prices, but the doors aren't removable (internal hinges). This makes it much more difficult to move, especially if it needs to go up or down stairs.
Certainly a consideration.

One note of caution with regards to any safe. I think it's worth noting that storing ammunition or loaded mags in the same safe as your firearms and other valuables can reduce it's effectiveness in the case of a fire. Firearms can withstand pretty serious ambient temperature extremes (especially metal frame pistols) when not exposed to direct flame or combustion. However the same cannot be said for ammunition. There is a scenario during a fire where the ammunition will begin to cook off inside your safe causing much more damage to your valuables where those valuables may well have survived when only subjected to the high ambient temperature. I've seen claims that 22LR begins to cook off at around 275-300 degrees, where as a Glock frame is still viable at that temperature.
My personal selection was the Mag Storage Solutions magazine holders on the left side of my safe. They make a magnetic attachment kit that allows you to stick them right to the side of your safe. They are plenty strong enough to hold up 6 fully loaded PMAGs. Not necessarily trying to push their products there may be better options out there, but it seemed to work pretty good for me. It keeps loaded mags close to the firearms for quick access, but keeps them on the outside of your fire rated container.

I'm curious how much heat a PC or security camera system in the safe would cause. Perhaps you could put a thermometer in there and let us know. It probably won't be enough to hurt anything but it would be good to prove.
Heat is good in a safe- that's what Golden Rods do. They're 180 degrees when operating, and that heat is what lowers the humidity in the safe.

Wife and I bought a Liberty Colonial 35cu.ft. safe after buying our new house 14 years ago. It has smooth finish and automotive quality paint laid on it. I too went for the mechanical dial locking system. I have recommended several folks to Liberty and they bought them one.

Jim Duyck Locksmiths have the luxuries of time and security. Picking a lock won't damage it, and you can take as long as you need if you're a legitimate tradesman. It's the right method most times.

Question: How are you going to access the data on the HD if it's inside the safe? Does the HD have a built in Wi-Fi? if so how does it penetrate the metal box? If there is a USB cable connected on the other side of the Hub can't thieves just plug into the cable and get to the info? I guess if you're going to use encryption software that would help.
I also think what I'm asking is for a video dedicated to the whole electronics set up you're going to have once you're done with it. that's the part that really interested me.
One other question, how do you coordinate what's in here vs. the hidden in wall locker?
You answered your own question about how to access the drive inside the safe (USB cable). I mention in the video that the drive would contain stuff that I simply wouldn't want to lose but not stuff too worrisome if it's stolen. If a thief want to waste time hacking the drive while police rolled up on him, all the more reason to have it.
I store my primary home defense guns in my Tactical Walls storage compartments. All other guns are stored in safes. Thanks for the great questions.

That's why Liberty makes RSCs, not safes. Look at a Fort Knox.
There are no tools in this room capable of getting into the safe. The basement would need to be flooded 5" before water could enter the safe, and that's only if there were no fire in the basement to begin with. Once the Palusol is activated, the safe is water tight. Thanks for watching.

Heat is how they work. Non-electric dehumidifier are great for safes that don't have power, but they must be recharged pretty frequently, and if you drop them, they bust open like a piñata. Guess how I know.

It wasn’t easy at all for them, actually. They needed a ladder and full access to all sides of the safe. Plus, they admit that they went through multiple cutting wheels to get through. Nobody is going to do all that they did without the police showing up to catch them.

Crazy question, if you could actually remove the shelves and wanted to hide from burglars in there instead of using your guns, (I know what you're thinking but just work with me here) could you lock yourself in from the inside and wait until they left and then open the locked safe from the inside? Think Panic Safe versus Panic Room...........my wife would love this!!!!!!

Good point - many people are and you are NOT alone. I actually thought about that as well but failed to mention it. I would of course store a large bottle of o2 in there as well that would last several hours.

If someone were to break in it would be easiest to go thru the side. They always make the door so crazy secure. Also don't keep your proof of gun pics and serial number hard drive in the same safe. I would put that in a safety deposit box.
That’s why it’s bolted to the floor in a corner. They can only access one side, and I have a lot of heavy stuff they have to move before even getting to that side. Even then, by the time they finish cutting the side, deputies will be here.

No. You spin the combo dial, and the key lock doesn’t work. It’s just a convenience put there for retailers or people who might be in the house but don’t want their kids getting in the safe.
i went with an import amsec because it's what a local safe and vault company sells. for the same price i could have gone down to gander mountain or whoever sells liberty and bought a safe double the size, better fire rating and made in the usa. i was a little upset after i saw the safes there. lol now i know.
Falling Teepee yeah i see that now. lol. at a much higher cost than liberty too tho my local safe dealer didn't really have the best prices compared to other companies. the one benefit i do have tho is whenever i move and want to take the safe, they'll come and move it for free within a certain milage and install it there too. i got the FV series i think it is. the newish line they came out with. basically the economy line with a higher fire rating.

I have a question for you safe guys. Why have none of these companies come out with a lazy suzan style design for the inside? Maybe I'm wrong, but, I think that type of design, instead of the shelves, would offer great storage, with more ease of access. It Looks like a very well built safe, and is something I'm shopping for in the near future.
Pendleton safes. They make an extreme version of what I'm talking about. I just care about the lazy susan idea though.
