We will walk along the streets and squares, peek into courtyards and backstreets and even come into houses. I will tell you about architecture, history, cultural traditions and certainly about people. Because everything mentioned above is built up with the help of people’s destinies. Each house is interested not only by itself but because of people who were there. Who built this house, who owned it - that’s what we wiil talk about in our urban travellings. Pushkin and his novel in verse - Evgenyi Onegin have appeared in our program not by chance. Today we will have a journey with the main character of this work - Tatiana Larina. We will come to Moscow together. You should remember that her mother took Tatiana to Moscow to the fair of brides to marry her daughter. They come from the backwoods. Its difficult to say where was their mansion, but how they entered Moscow is a well-known fact. The rode on the St Petersburg route, we’re standing on it - this is St Petersburg highway or avenue. And our first stop on this route together with Tatiana Larina will be the Peter's castle. the Peter's castle is surrounded be the oak grove, he is gloomily proud of his recent fame, Napoleon waited in vain with the keys of old Kremlin. And Moscow went to him. It had prepared a fire. And the impatient character was gazing at the fire. And this is the very castle. Firstly, this isn’t a castle, secondly, the name of this castle has no connection with Peter The Great. Long time ago at this very place were lands of Peter’s monastery named after metropolitan Peter, the companion of Ivan the first of Moscow lived in the begging of the 14th century. So there’s no relation with peter the Great. It was built during the reign of Catrine the second in the 1775. This palace was built by gorgeous Russian architect, master of classicism - Matvey Fedorovich Kazakov. It’s important to mention that he built up this palace courageously, he united the gothic style (this spired narrow arches for example) with ancient Russian architecture. It can be said that Kazakov was the foregoer of Russian style modern, which can combine different methods. So peter’s castle built by Matvey Kazakov was the castle of Russian tsars. When tsars came from st Petersburg to Moscow several times a year, they had a rest before a solemn entry here in this castle. Here they slept, dressed up and then solemnly with music entered Moscow. The other times of year the palace was empty. And another episode mentioned by Pushkin - the staying of Napoleon at this palace. The story of death of the Napoleon’s army is well-known, nevertheless this story is mysterious. How could napoleon Bonaparte, the greatest commander and politician did all that things that he did is unclear. We only can pretend that God save Russia, otherwise we can’t explain this.
