I've dived the blue hole in Belize several times. The black tip and reef sharks flitting in and out of the shadows, swimming right next to you is one of the coolest experiences you can have as a diver
Huh, I didn't know the Blue Holes got so deprived of oxygen that low, but it makes sense. The preservation properties make me think of the Great Lakes in Michigan, how they're so cold and still that they actively preserve the dead.
A hole new world
Unbelievable sight.
Lol
According to my Sleep data I am a shark. Considering to move to a blue hole now
That’s some top quality sleep data 🦈
Congratulations! You'll also save money on dental bills...and the dating should be interesting 🧐
You should take a vaca there first before fully buying in just to make sure the blue hole life is for you. You'll also want to meet your new neighbors and make sure you fit in. Always a bad move to unload your stuff only to find your new neighbors are no bark all bite! Good luck. 🍀
How about a mental institution?
@@anook1984 wuuut?
Cool video. I dived the Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt. A lot of people have got disoriented and died there unfortunately. I didn’t see any sharks there, more’s the pity.
Prove it
@ You’d love it, it’s between Dahab and the Bedouin camp. Beautiful weather and great diving. Within 4 feet of the rocks the water’s so deep you can no longer see the bottom. Highly recommended!
@Charlie-f4q4o You're at a channel by a guy who rarely ever is around sharks. Go figure
That's really cool! I didn't know blue holes had their own ecosystems, that's amazing! Thanks for another great video, Kris :D
Lots of reasons are given to certain animal behaviours, and I think sometimes we often overlook the possibility that maybe they just like it, for the same way humans will randomly prefer certain things over others.
Humans dont prefer things randomly lol. Its definitely tough to identify the incentives behind behaviors, including for ourselves but particularly in animals who's brains are entirely different from our own. No one and no thing is doing anything randomly
Lindsay Nikole introduced me to you, and thank goodness for that :-) love the vids
Thank goodness for SharkBytes. I’m losing my mind here in the U.S. am ready to jump in a blue hole. Sorry world.
You can always opt to migrate.
Go for it.

@@socialdeviant13 there's also the option of applying for jobs and have the company help you with the process :) every company I worked for, menial jobs ignored, did that. From visa process to finding a flat and covering the upfront cost, on a basis of a loan without interest, for the people they wanted. At least that's my experience from Germany. A lot of industries really don't find people and need to import workers.
Blue hole have been ripping off America for decades. It’s a very poor deal and now has a 25% tariff the best tariff…wha…oh yeah it’s Biden’s DEI’s fault 👍 👍
Quality. The Thomas the Tank Engine music was the cherry on top!
I dove the Great Blue Hole in Belize but it was a bit disappointing. An abundance of life on top but very little below 10 meters. The dive master took us down to 40 meters to look at some very large stalactites in a pocket of the wall which were very cool in themselves. I did see one shark out towards the middle of the hole but just at the range of visibility. I've crossed that dive off my bucket list but I've no good reason to do it again.
The rest of the diving around the Belize reefs were much better than the Great Blue Hole.
(ETA, my avatar was taken on that day trip.)
I've dived the Lost Blue Home twice, and both times it was full of blacknose sharks. It was amazing - when we dropped down to 120ft, all of a sudden hundreds of the sharks spilled out of the hole and onto the seagrass fields outside.
We were there in June on the Car Ppalu, when they breed.
Another great and informative video ❤
The seas continue to be full of mysteries.
Our weekly shark video. Keep up the good work
Doing my bit for the algorithm. Thanks for another great video
9:35 the dead / preserved sharks could have been down there “for quite a while”…? I get that you wouldn’t have an exact figure, but “quite a while” is incredibly vague.
does “quite a while” mean like ~two weeks? or ~two months? or do you mean more like ~two years? _~two decades??_ I’m not a marine biologist, so I have no frame of reference haha; I don’t even know how long they’re SUPPOSED to remain intact like that.
Scientists would have to figure the average temperature of the water down there and then figure out how much adipocere has been formed in the shark corpses. Maybe then they could come up with an actual estimate of time of demise.
Good Afternoon Kris, very good video about the blue hole 🦈👍🐟🐳💦
A little off topic from this video, I just wanted to say thank you for your educational videos on sharks! I've always been afraid/interested in sharks ever since seeing Jaws as a boy. However after binging a lot of your videos I've felt more confident when I go to the beaches and less hysterically afraid of sharks and see them more as fascinating animals rather then random mindless killers.
Hello. Good Afternoon Kris 🦈🦈 Happy Shark Sunday 🦈🦈
Kris: Time for Creature Features Redux :Longer and more indepth .. Starting with the Sand Tiger or Grey Nurse Shark !!!
I was actually just watching a video yesterday about the blue hole in Belize. When talking about how dangerous it was the presenter said about how there were sharks around so you'd be in trouble if you cut yourself on the coral. All I could think of is how annoyed Kris would be at sharks being portrayed as bloodthirsty evil things out to get people.
I was in Belize back @ 00'. My brother in law did a dive there. Long trip in some chop no fun. He saw a couple of small 4'-ers but that was about it. Fun fact: it was a dry cave @ 15,000 ago~
Oh God you're one of those. 😳
But the presenter wasn't portraying them as bloodthirsty evil things. He just said it's not the best place ti cut yourself cause sharks are attracted to blood in the water. Stop being a Karen.
What exactly do you think happens when you get cut in a hole full of hungry sharks?
Dont be so open minded that your brain falls out bud. Sharks are opportunistic predators and many species will attack people for an easy meal. Youre easily as ignorant as the people fear mongering and calling for culling.
Saw some stuff on a baby great white being spotted, can't wait to see what you have to say about that!
He did a video about that actually.
beautifully done, really loved this one, thank you ☺
My thoughts while watching:
1) aren't they all volcanic craters? Oh
2) This safe system spells danger as commercial fishing depletes stocks and makes me very very sad
Idk, I've heard other youtubers explain they're made from sinkholes so who knows.
I would love to take one of those submersibles into one of those holes. I'm terrified of dark black water that I can't see the bottom of, so a submersible would be the only way I think I would feel secure enough to explore something like this. I love aquariums and watching videos about sea life but when I see the dark abyss in person, I start to panic.
Always quick to click when it's a video about my favorite animal 😎🦈
#SharksAreGOATED
We went to Belize last year and stayed on San Pedro Island, it was still a 2 hour boat ride each way so you only would get 30-40 mins out there.
Great Biue Hole in Belize was my least favorite dive site of the whole country. I logged around 200 dives there in Ambergris, and lighthouse reef the 3 months i was there. Half Moon Cay was my favorite.
Looking at the open ocean fills me with such an intense anxiety
So basically, blue holes are like underwater inter species pick up bars
That was a very interesting video, thanks
When I saw the tumbnail n text my mind went "The sharks are guardians of the hole. The protect the world from the beast that lurke in its deepth"

Nature's "seed bank"
Mommy shark, daddy shark where did you meet?
Oh we went to a festival held at the lost blue hole.......
Fascinating! How deep are these? I may have missed it if it was mentioned in the video.
Hey brother, i love your videos and content.
I noticed you have Star Wars posters in the background and was wondering if you have ever seen the Clone Wars?
There is a Shark-person character, "Riff Tamson" in one of the episodes and i know your more about real sharks, but I was wondering if your had any thoughts about the character. Maby it be a fun topic of a hypothetical shark-person. Idk just thought about it caus the star wars posters. 😅
Hope you doing well and keep up the amazing work❤
Very interesting
Very interesting video and we really need to work on protecting our oceans from other humans.
Sharknado!
Hey Kris did you ever think about doing a creature feature on Thresher sharks?🦈🦈
Great video ❤
Longer videos please
I wish but I also wonder how long it takes to make 10 - 15 minutes. There's some real work in these videos.
Have a great week shark fam!🤗
Do blue holes often look like small pockets of open ocean (therefore any form of pelagic species could occupy them)?
Another awesome video Kris. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Every time you said "the hole" I kept getting reminded of a video my buddy showed me where a guy had a hole in his floor and his girlfriend asked questions like "where are the police?" his answer was "the hole". Are we eventually gonna see a shark video on shark courtship behavior?
Blue Holes. A divers graveyard.
Can you please do a video on the recent up tick in shark attacks/sightings on Long Island! I feel like the last 10 years We had a huge rise in shark populations in the summer
Long Island New York
Diverse Dave is down there
I don't think I've ever heard the word 'hole' as often as in this video.
"We first have to understand about the physical properties of the hole itself." 🤔
Same reason sea mounts are popular, as you thyself said .
Godzilla is there, He needs to recharge
Goose Wayne went there 😂
Also bull sharks there… or at least one large female when I was lol.
By the end of the giveaway, PLEASE let us know what the code was for the +3 entries! I have watched the 4 previous episodes over and over again and tried a number of hopeful guesses but to no avail!
Sonic needs to be careful next time he’s in the ocean.
interesting
According to my calculations, blue holes are deep holes filled with water. And sharks need water to live. Which is why you find more sharks in blue holes than canadian forests😎
Don't thank me.
"Apex predators of the sea" yeah ok bro
You know any trigger shark that is 18 fts
Torus?
the Lusca is down there and the other sharks have to go in once a month and give him his cut !
I gotta do a drunk shark science episode all about the lusca 😂
@@SHARKBYTES Maybe the lusca was the inspiration for that one shark movie Sharktapus?
@@SHARKBYTES drunk sharks 🤣🦈👍
Could these Blue Holes be magnetic field hotshots and that's maybe a possibility of what attracts the mass breeding events?
Blue holes like them birds in avatar 👀
Hello
Which is why smurfs don't swim
Sharks are not stupid. They have over 200 million years of successful propigation. People don't.
What is your favorite dive spot in the world?
Do we know why the females stay in one area? Is to bulk up for when they're pregnant?
Jack Grealish has let himself go
Random question. Have you ever played maneater? It's now kinda old, but I just bought it on Steam for $12, and it was fantastic. Great shark game. You might get a kick out of it
Forrest Galante says you're a fraud
There is a joke there, figure it out for yourselves XD
sorry, why is fishing bad?
Ha hole
why would u hunt for sharks ffs?
Geology, not geography
Dean's Blue Hole stfu with that name 😂
Blue holes so dangerous for diving even fish can drown down there
the audio is awful. your mic seems to muffle all the high frequencies-- like you're talking in a room designed to absorb sound. and please talk more slowly. can barely follow your narration.
Sounds like a you problem
@@dennischristopher9952 you slay me.
Oh God the woke movement completely destroyed the word diverse. I got a bad reaction hearing that word
I agree. I can't use that word anymore. I shudder when I hear it.
