Hi, Bob. at around 11:25 you have mentioned some zip and hdf files. Hdf files should be mounted as hard drive (and usually they need a workbench to be started first). If the zip file has a .slave file in it (in the folder) then it is a whdload file. If not, then it can be a game that is HD installable. In both cases (whdload or hdistalled) you would launch the workbench, unpack the zip file on the HD and launch it. I'm not sure how the RetroPie WHD load works, but on the amiga, whdload would be installed on the HardDrive (.hdf) which the is then started over the game icon, as a tool. To be runable, the protection bits have to be correct, and lha files do have them. Usually the .zip file does not preserve/set these flags correctly (when unpacked under windows). Just got Amiberry up and running on a Zero 2. Roms with the filetype .lha will launch straight from the Emulation Station menu. No disk swapping. Using a wireless keyboard with a built-in touchpad makes everything even easier!
Have been trying and failing to get adf files working and am unable to find lha files anywhere? The only emulator on Retropie I can’t get working is the Amiga / Amiberry and that’s the only reason I bought a Raspberry pi 😩 I miss Amiga gaming so much
@@Ponty_Paul Hi. I found loading various files a bit hit and miss as well. Do make sure you've got the right model and bios selected. The lha files are out there. You just need to have a look around. I heard somewhere that archive.org is a very interesting site.

Since I last posted i’ve managed to get Amiberry to ‘appear’ on Retropie, as well as the games lists of the adf files I’d added to the amiga folder. I’ve also added all the kickstart roms (I think) to the bios folder. What’s happening is when I try to launch or play the game, the little grey box comes up (as per norm) that reads: ‘Launching ….. (amiberry) Press a button to configure Errors are logged to /dev/shm/runcommand.log’ However, at this point the screens freezes and my only option then is to power off the device. I’m hoping using .lha files will be the answer and will keep you posted 🤞🏻🤞🏻
@@Ponty_PaulIf you use the Start Amiberry option in RetroPie can you get to the control screen? I found that starting games directly from the RetroPie menu didn't always work. Going in to the control panel and loading the disks from there was a more reliable route.

Nice tutorial. But I must say that recallbox is so much better. I have taken a real Amiga 500 and put in a raspberry pi 3. Amiga keyboard is connect to a aduino that make the plug into usb.
The computer I always dreamed of and never owned. Had the ZX 81, then the C64 and then went on to PC XT, AT, 386 all the way up to Ryzen (and exclusively Linux since more than a decade)
I came from the ZX Spectrum and probably had two Amiga 500s and then a couple of Amiga 1200s. Networking two Amigas together via a serial cable to play Stunt Car Racer or Lotus Esprite Turbo was just fantastic. I also used my Amiga to dial into BBSes too, there were a number that I subscribed to that ran on Amigas, usually Amiga 2000 machines. Great days!

@@BytesNBits btw... I still have my ZX81 including 16KB RAM expansion modul, my C64 and the newer C64C, and the 1571 floppy drive :-). I am just sorry that I sold the NEC Pinwriter many years ago... These computers weren't operated since 30 years but at least on the outside they are in pristine condition. Well, with the exception of the ZX81 where one of the "keys" is damaged.

Any ideas how I start figuring out what is wrong with this? Botecera just seemed to work out of the box for me whereas I'm 4 hours in with RetroPie and still solving issues :-(
Did the Amiberry installation run OK? Have you tried re installing it and building it from source as well as using the pre built image - maybe the complier got something mixed up. Not sure what else to try as this step should be just the package installation.
I have a thin client with SD card running raspberry pi desktop? Would it be better to run a standalone Amiga distro or through Retropie (which is included on my desktop)? It's a quad core chip so it should have issues with speed. Thanks in advance.
The RetroPie version works fine on my Pi 3B so your thin client shouldn't have any issues either way. The stand alone may give you more control over the Amiga setup though. If you're looking to explore the Amiga system I'd probably go that way.
Hi, as I saw you loading Turrican, my old question came back in my mind that I could'nt solve yet. There is a function called autofire in the amiberry emulator. That works for me and it automatically fires the weapons. But there is a electical second shot that Turrican use to shoot all around the figure in a circular way. This can be activated with holding the fire button and pressing left and right. But in the the amiberry the same button is used for the autofire. So with a regular gamepad, could it be feasible to enable the autofire and in addition on e.g. a second key the circular fire shot? How have you solved that? I have the issue with Turrican 1 & 2.
Hi. I honestly don't know. I don't really use the autofire option. I guess it will work by continually pressing the fire button rather than holding it down which is why the circular option doesn't work. With only one fire button I guess the autofire effectively disables this function. Please have a play to see if there is a work around but I suspect you'll just have to turn off autofire.
I think the Zero2W will be able to handle the emulation. It copes well with most early 90's architectures. I guess it will come down to how well the emulation is optimised.
Hi, thank you for the video! I installed on my raspberry pi3 amiberry, all retropie package update, but i can't open "+start amiberry", i get black screen, the menu appears for just 0,5 sec and then back to the previous screen. Any idea how to fix this issue?
Did you install the Kickstart ROMs? Make sure you've got the right ones with the right filenames. If you check the Amiberry section in the RetroPie docs it will tell you what you need.

It seems that + start amiberry crashes for some reasons.. I installed lr-puae and the games roms start without problem, no idea what's wrong with Amiberry..
@@TheDj85 I think Amiberry expects different filenames for the Kickstart ROMs. In the docs they are listed as kick33180.A500, kick34005.A500, kick40068.A1200.

However, the games run well with lr-puae2021, only with 1 rom i have an issue, the video intro are ok but the game goes too fast, any idea to slow down the game speed?
None of this is working for me and I'm a 22 year + experienced nix engineer. Black screen with a mouse cursor. You need to explain the Amiga Forever roms, the naming differs from yours. If it's done by CRC, say that. One game started ONCE, and never again. I changed no options. I've ben at this garbage for hours. Black screen, cursor in the upperleft, can't exit, can't open Amiberry with f12. Amiberry gui runs fine when selected. I load a game manually, nothing, same thing.
Hi. Sorry to hear you're having problems. It can be tricky getting the right combination of model, Kickstart and game. If you've got the Amiga Forever ROMs you should have a Kickstart 1.3 BIOS. I don't know what filename they use but it should either have the 1.3 in the file name of say it's for the A500. That's a good place to start. Make sure you go from Retropie to the Amiberry setup screen and select the Amiga 500 model. You have to click the SET CONFIGURATION button to save those settings. Try loading a game. I'd start with a .adf extension game file. I found these the easiest to get up and running. This should at least let you see if the setup is working without the worry about the game ROM needing extra setup (the WHLoad stuff can be more hassle is setup). I hope this works.
I found that freezes usually boiled down to the mix of hardware emulation settings and the firmware roms. If you're using the settings in the video I'd try downloading the bios roms again to make sure they are OK.

That sounds like a great project. Recalbox is great too. It does seem to have a better user interface.

Same here. The Amiga was too expensive when I had a BBC Micro, then PCs at University and ever since.

Can you autoboot to the Amiga instead of the gui?
I don't think RetroPie allows you to do that. Some of the stand alone emulators do - at least in Windows, haven't tried them on a Linux machine..
