SecureNinjaTV hi, love the channel. I just had a couple questions. I’m about to graduate with a business degree but I’m very interested in getting a career in cyber security. I don’t have much experience just a little bit of experimentation on my own. Firstly, i was looking into a Masters degree and I saw a lot of them didn’t require coding (which i do not know) do you think knowing code is a must if i decide to go into this field and if so how should I go about doing it. Secondly, what type of education do you think would be the best, i’m open to anything that get’s me the best education.
I’m really thinking about going into this career field, I don’t really know much at the moment. I’ve already applied at a trade school for applied cyber security, everything about this field just grabs my attention. I’m really up for the challenges that come in this career.
This is all great but is 18+ hours of work really normal like that dan ford guy said? Am totally interested in getting into this field but would still love time to spend with family and what not occasionally.
He sounds borderline obsessed with his work, he just has extreme passion. He said even if he's on vacation he's still wondering about what happened when he wasn't at work. lol
started IT a couple years ago, from nothing now understand networking, servers, scripting, various applications used for virtualization, monitoring, etc. it really does never end. I'm only at a associate level still D: that foundation level knowledge takes a good long time to get rounded to really understand what all goes into the field. 2 labs a day for the last 2 years :P
+Maoh Lynx Same here. Do you have any certifications at all? I am working on my BSIT and wanting to take my CompTIA Network+ and Security+ to have as well.
been about a year since I've posted, I've gotten ccna, mcsa and degree in information systems. currently a sysadmin for a school. all I can say is that nothing prepares you for real life experiences lol. knees deep in server shit and everyone expects you to solve everything lol. once you got everything going smooth then its laid back position to have. If I were to hire someone now I'd want someone well rounded know about networking, servers, printers, handle any dns issues and is very organized.
i like the stuff and concepts but i have a really hard time grasping the theories and practical stuff.. i find myself struggling in other fields with this too.. i learn some network stuff today apply it then forget it the next day or can't explain it to someone the next day... and it keeps repeating...
every one would tell me to do some thing in computers cause im always trying to do some thing with it and i look in to computers jobs and think that there to hard to do . but when i look at movies and looking at code i get chills just looking at it and looking at MI Ghost Protocol and scorpion and my fav war games i can see my self doing that but i have to look pass all the studying and see how much fun i can have once i get use to it i should of just done it out of high school instead of waiting till im older .its like they say its never to late
Nothing you see in movies or on TV is applicable. All of that is a pathetic joke. A lot of people never bother to get into info sec because of the amount that needs to be learned to get anywhere. Those that do make it, don't look at the study as work, it is fun, play time, something we do because we love it. Best piece of wisdom I ever heard in reference to all of this is "Don't learn to hack, hack to learn."
I understand were ur coming from but I'm just saying it got me interested to go into that field cause of what you can do and what the possibly are .and I know that things on TV are not real but if it get me some what interested to do research and try it for my self i that's all I need and I find it to the point I can't stop thinking of it
Guys I can tell you right now. If you want to work hours where you can rest normal and have some spare time, you will. It depends on the position and job you have.
Thank you Nicholas! This is very true. Not every Cybersecurity job requires around the clock dedication. Mr. Ford was in a very elevated and challenging point in his career.
I am looking for an internship opportunity in Cybersecurity, any recommendations? Currently, graduate student in MSIS, Cybersecurity with no prior experience in Cybersecurity.
Would this industry/education be good for someone that is only "naturally talented" with computers and has been hacking and "penetration testing" all their lives or can someone with just the ability to learn and has a passion to acquire the necessary skills do it as well?
I don't like how he is speaking. I am in this field, yes you have to be available a lot 24/7, but a team work gives everyone time to rest and have life.
+Robert k We believe them to be one and the same- generally speaking- as all computers are connected to the internet somehow, making them vulnerable to hacking. Hopefully some of our fans who work in the field will chime in with thoughts!
Ok, so I hope to get some advice from you guys. I am currently at an impasse between information systems and information security. Next semester I have to pick one and go that route. When I was in the military I worked as a radio operator and something always went wrong. I love being the guy to fix it and troubleshoot. That is where my passions lie. Which degree and concentration could I best apply that application to fix problems? I would be greatful to any informative information from you guys and ladies. Thank you.
+Eliuth Hmm, I would say information security because once you're in the world of hacker training you'll have to learn to both break AND fix things. Plus it's a growing field and supplementing college courses with hands on training (like what is offered by SecureNinja) should get you prepared for a pretty great career!
***** I don't know of any legit schools that offer degrees in "cyber security". What you want to major in for a security career is computer science. Most CS degrees require CS electives, many of which involve networking, security, and cryptography if you choose the right school. Some even offer "paths" or "specializations" which give sets of courses for things like security, software engineering, etc.
+bloo4107 from what I've read, lowest salary is around 53k while some of the highest has been 140K. So yeah if you want to make bank cyber security is a great path to into.
Hello guys!! How do I actually start a career on CyberSecurity ? I am graduate but not in science stream and I have diploma certificate from DOEACC society. Well i know pentesting, worked 2-3 years on RAT and got some talent on problem solving in IT issues. I have basic knowledge in C,C++,HTML etc.
It is not about hardware! It is about learning ICT, practicing & overcoming obstacles. Maybe you wanna start with this: hackaday.com/2015/09/05/orange-is-the-new-15-pi/ coupled with this: www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/issues/ Don't rush your learning, take it slow but sure. Once done you can start learning to become a hacker, otherwise you'd become what they call a Script Kiddy(person claiming to be a hacker but dunno nothing other than taking other people source code and compiling and using it, even if it breaks he does not know how to fix it). Reward yourself with this book once you finished learning: it-ebooks.info/book/2624/ Good luck, remember do not hurt others be ETHICAL.
3 years late, I know, and I'm not a professional or anything (yet), but while igrewold is correct, I believe most people in cyber security at least know their way around Kali Linux and just Unix/Linux in general. This isn't hardware since it's an OS, but your computer should be able to at least handle either dual boot or a virtual machine to run Kali Linux assuming you want to primarily run windows. So a decent amount of RAM would be good, and the better the processor the better, however you don't really have to spend a whole lot. You can make almost anything work.
which professional training course do you recommend? ( so far i learned from watching online tutorials but i want something integrated so that i can focus in one direction but i don't know name of any such course. CEH is lame )
Hi Lokesh, Have you obtained a S+ certification? It's always a good start. If you would like more information on what training to pursue please contact us via this form > secureninja.com/cpid/7013A000001y7Ar/promos/sm
I don't know man, Currently CSE Student, wanna be a part of this industry but don't think got the same love and motivation for it like the people in the video🤔
+Christian P We recommend SecureNinja! We have over 150 cybersecurity training courses available in onsite, classroom, or online formats. Head to our website for more info!
+Christian P I'm in a bachelors degree right now. I'm not sure who has the best undergrad programs. I've been looking into grad programs. simple Google searches will help you out though. there are "top colleges " lists for infosec
This is probably true, but unfortunately it's not just cybersecurity work that requires constant computer screen time (says the marketing team). We recommend everyone balance out their day with active outdoor activities!
it was a pretty good video I like math algorithms but Idk if to get into computer security I just want to make good software but If i dont know how to protect myself I dont know if hackers will get into my computer and do shit thats why I think is better if I fully get into computer security but still im not 100% sure lol
cybersecurity is "THE" industry of the future. with the ever expanding IoT macrocosm, demand for real cybersecurity experts, red and blue teamers will only grow
It is passion that created these experts because not too many people had the patience and strength to learn and master this skill.
at least 3 nights a week I sleep from 3 or 5 am to 7:30 am. I totally agree with dude who was talking about never sleeping
I'm gonna start my schooling in cyber security in about 2 months. I'm very excited about this, beats being a server!

The field is all about being a "jack of all trades" so yes knowing coding languages is going to be essential
How is it?
Really starting to fall in love with this job industry, hope I can get a career relevant to IT security one day
+Sujay Shrestha Hi Sujay have you started career ?

@@Rajesh-gx1jj did you?

Don't worry, not all cybersecurity jobs are so taxing. It always depends on your position and Mr. Ford is in a very BIG one right now.
Yeh this is a bit depressing

The cybersecurity field is an amazing area to work in. If you ever have any questions we will gladly answer them at secureninja.com/contact!

Man you dont have to work like that....in the beginning you might be busy but you can work at a hospital etc and do 8hr work days
Ok..he never sleeps and he kept coming back to that point often ..so he misses his sleep and not happy about it

I plan on starting my associates next spring and then going to University of San Antonio for my bachelors, they have a great cyber security program.
Jerrel28 lets meet up. I’m going to Texas AM San Antonio.
