@randominternetweirdo5479 as funny as that clip is, he doesn't actually say that And his facepalm is just a hilarious coincidence because he is taking off his mask. The angle and way it is cut makes it look like that
I always find it funny how when something drops it’s “The best thing of all time” then when the hype dies down people start saying how they really felt.
My biggest problem is how they stripped down the gadget selection to add difficulty to the battles rather than enhance AI or movement on the enemy's side. Bringing you down to the enemy's level compared to the last game defeats the purpose. I wish they pushed the enemy AI to something like the Arkham games, but that would take more work and the investors can be pushy, I guess.
I would love if in the third game, for a lot of the side missions, they have Peter/Miles fighting against a bunch of D-list villains. Let us take down Big Wheel, The Wall, Kangaroo, and other ‘lame’ villains. I think that’d be a fun way to have interesting side missions and giving lesser known characters the spotlight.
@@lucaleone4331 Nothing about Spider-Man is 'grounded.' I think you meant to say that the series is on the more serious side. Even then, I'd have to disagree. Each of Insomniac's Spider-Man games have had their fair share of goofy and silly moments. So, having some side quests that highlight Spider-Man's sillier villains would be a good way to inject some lighter moments in the game. Take the Yakuza series for example. Their main stories are played 100% serious and take on heavy subjects. But their side content is some of the goofiest stuff you'll see in any game. You can keep the serious tone for the main story, but have fun with the side content.
I like how you talked about feeling the desire to wear certain costumes even though the game has a ton of costumes. That feels like the type of personal problem I would have, since I like to treat game stories on the level I think the writers intended, at least first play through.
The new costume designs just look bad compared to the first game's suit list imo. But man props to Insomniac for making the TASM2 suit and also making it a bit more movie accurate on a later update
i kept getting so confused when every time i’d switch peter’s costume, it would just switch right back to the venom one whenever i did anything. like why would you let me change my costume, and then force me to wear a different one???
@@raidengoodman8754did you notice most of Peter's final suit unlocks are just suits he already had in the first game? Can't tell you how many times I looked forward to leveling up and said "aw what the hell" after I saw the suit. Just a really weird development choice imo.
Problem is they reused too many suits from the first game when we could’ve had more. For instance, Tom Holland’s night monkey suit, homemade suit, inside out suit, didn’t need to be in this game. They reused the iron spider suit, 2099 suit, (could’ve had ATSV 2099 instead) reused scarlet spider, when they could’ve added more. Also, I wanted a quick change to symbiote button, like web of shadows… disappointed it wasn’t added
I have a weird desire to wear the canonical suits during every cutscene, and change back to whatever else for gameplay. Needless to say, I was devastated seeing that Miles suit
I adore these games but I felt like MJ in the second one was just being way to reckless and it just turned silly. Like why can’t they have her play to her strengths, dig up leads, help advice and guide Peter instead of heading into insanely dangerous situations just to ”prove” herself or whatever. It’s not like that’s the only defining ability of a ”strong” character.
Especially the finale. After Peter lead Venom away there is no good reason for MJ to go into the symbiote hive to get the rock thing. If there was any other combat trained person it would have made sense.
Indeed, would've made more sense for her to lead away remaining forces on her bike and have miles go in there. But I mean miles could've handled going in there himself, would've loved that. @@rascoehunter3608
The whole game is full of inconsistencies. A good example of this is Wraith who is literally a normal ass human with basically no real martial arts training that would allow her to fight Spiderman 1 on 1. Yet, she is a boss fight in the game. Also a side note, her character design is absolutely garbage. I mean, she looks like a college freshmen in the middle of getting their gender studies degree. There's plenty of other characters in this game that they absolutely butchered the design for too such as miles having the same zesty ass hair cut as every other black dude in video games. Or another one being black cat where they got rid of her iconic latex outfit with white fur, for the same tactical one-piece matte black suit that I swear is the default when Marvel tries to tone down the provocativeness of a female character.
For the hunters and Kraven language issue, I think Kraven mostly speaks English with a Russian accent. For the hunters, it explained in a mission where apparently hunters came from other parts of the world which explained the hunters speaking in different accents and different languages.
For the hunters i think it was called “simkarian” language or whatever. It’s actually hungarian. But when MJ talked to the hunter with her “very good simkarian”, both her and the hunters sounded like someone who spent 1 year in Hungary and somewhat learned it (source, i’m hungarian, lol) which makes no sense for hunters who were apparently born there.
My favorite side missions in the game were definitely the sandman ones, since after I beat all the sand dudes and got the crystal, ripping it open was super satisfying for me because of the resistance on the triggers while breaking it open, super cathartic for me.
If MJ picked up Peter's web shooter (singular) and had to figure out how to outsmart the goons - it could have turned into a unique mission that kinda uses the mechanics of core gameplay. She could screw up and press the wrong button and the shooter would explode, covering the room, the 3 goons that caught her red handed, and leaving her amazed, shocked, satisfied, recharges the fully discharged webshooter and keeps going. Such a real touch
I'm sure everyone knows this but I JUST figured this out: The meteorite with the spiral probably buffed the symbiote up and that's why Venom is that big with possessing Harry. Peter and Harry were just fine with wearing the symbiote before the meteorite. Sure, Peter was a little angry during the lizard fight, but he's also desperate because of Harry's condition. Once the symbiote touches the meteorite, Peter really starts to lose himself. The symbol on the meteorite belongs to Knull, the god of symbiotes and he most likely sent the symbiote to Earth with the meteorite to control the symbiote to make take over Earth along with giving it a big power buff.
28:19 Symkaria isn’t unique to the Hunters, it’s the home country of Silver Sable, the mercenary under Osborn’s employ in the first game. MJ went to Symkaria to do a piece on their ongoing civil struggle, which is how she knows the language, and why Peter was MIA in Miles Morales.
This game felt like it was holding back in the major ways but also going too far in the minor ways. Like how the 3rd act is pretty much a venom invasion arc even though nothing was building up to it the whole game but there’s like 50 missions where you get to do pointless school stuff.
Yes a disappointment. Nobody likes those boring a s s side quests. Should’ve had side quests of spider-man’s rogues. darn it insomniac. We’re not writers, but we probably could’ve created better side missions for the game.
Spiderman 2's very dark storyline pulled it's punches for being told in a PG way. The directorial decisions for a rather mature storyline was definitely made to also be consumable for the kid demographic; linear/ 1 dimensional/ on the nose dialogue, and a hyperfocus on spectacle. For such a dark storyline, it would've lend itself to be directed in a much more mature approach: a lot more depth in the buildup to give climactic moments the desired impact, and a much stronger focus on character complexity and nuance.
@@WatchOutForSpidersMan He literally just said that he wanted the game to be more mature to match the actual storyline, and deeper character focus because to be honest, the characters seem really shallow except for maybe Peter Parker and MJ.
@@wingsoficarus1139 The story usually has double meanings. They aren’t as simple as good guy beats bad guy and saves the day! Also a darker storyline is being foreshadowed in the next game.
@@WatchOutForSpidersMan Ima be real here bro, in the case of Spiderman 2 it basically almost is as simple as "good guy beats bad guy" with exception to the nuance I guess you could argue around Harry and Peter's relationship. Thats about it through, it still feels like the same superhero stories we've been getting for the last 50 years. Also, considering the game is supposed to be a soft reboot of the OG spiderman series, with the original Spiderman 2 being supposedly dark, it doesn't make sense for the third game to FINALLY have a dark story when that was supposed to be Spiderman 2 smh.
@@wingsoficarus1139 that’s really not true. The entire symbiote storyline of Spider-Man 2 is based off substance abuse. What are you talking about a soft reboot of the og Spider-Man series? It’s a new take on the characters. Goblin has been hyped up this entire time. You are silly if you think it’s just going to be, the good guys win and nothing bad happens. Also id love to hear how you would make the storyline more mature.
I love that your making fun of someone who got into a car crash and got jaw replacement surgery and quit from all the hate. So funny 😐. You are such a dick, just because you don’t want to smash a VIDEO GAME CHARACTER. You have to go out and make comments about her looks. Grow up.
20:40 good luck with the "take the suit off him while he's asleep" thing. you're forgetting that the suit takes full control of him when he sleeps in the scene you're showing.
Coming from a huge Spider-Man fan, this game was like a solid 8/10 for me. I think what they were really lacking this time around in the story division was comic writers. First game had them and I think they're some of the reason why it turned out so good. Having people who not only know these characters better than most, but also added on so much more would've been beneficial, and probably could've made the Harry/Venom stuff work way better.
@chandllerburse737 yea I wanna fly ill play a Superman game. Giving spiderman wings is the most redundant garbage ever. So why swing when you can fly? The original game is a spiderman game. I don't need wings or robot arms. That isn't spiderman. That is marvel movie spiderman! You know... the worst possible spiderman. Why are his powers even useful when he can fly and has an ironman suit? It makes his power set useless. Clearly you think all superheros should be the same. I prefer originality. Sue me. Spiderman 2 should be called ironman 1. Why have super strength when you have an ironman suit? Why have webs when you have wings? Why be a friendly neighborhood spiderman when you can be redundant galactic ironman!
@thefinalboss2403 R U forgetting that those were both comic inventions? Peter having those spider arms makes him on par with Miles in terms of gameplay variety, and the web wings don't overshadow swinging, their inclusion is a first for any game and they are a great tool when swinging isn't as much as a vital option when crossing the river. Stopping making these dumb replies with absolutely no knowlegde of how they relate to the character
@Arrowzeditz oh so if the comics did it its good? Yeah bro those comics don't get it either. How about we give Superman a robot suit that let's him swing from building to building! Sound good? You can make all the excuses you want. It's not spiderman.
I think the reason why Venom was so big in size was because when the suit latched onto Peter, it began to copy his abilities, specifically his strength, and then when coming back to Harry, the abilities began to amplify, increasing his size, strength and durability.
Call BS. They just wanted to reference King in Black Venom using Sony's standalone movie Venom's base model with none of the backstory behind it cause it needs the Avengers and other heroes/rogue's gallery to be in story to work (which Web of shadows had to some extent and they were bosses where u had to make a decision to save or recruit em) ironically even couldn't do a homage to it properly in second half of game cause that is what happens throughout the web of shadows game. and just to subvert expectations in end that Kraven won't be bonding with the symbiote cause anyone who has played a spiderman game with symbiote suit before would call it totally crap that symbiote gives the host twice the stature of original
thats just not how it ever works or has worked. venom is big because... eddy is big. the other symbiotes arent venoms size really and some are OP af. carnage, toxin, scream, agony. if abilities = size then they would all be eddys venoms size but they arent. they just wanted to use the venom IP for nostalgia.
I'm glad I chose to get Robocop Rouge City first. That game was way more fun than Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man was incredibly mid. People who wanted it to win GOTY don't know what a great game is.
@youngentertainment8482 Honestly the first game was better. The story was better, the map was just right, MJ didn't look like a dude. The Gameplay was practically the same other than a few changes. Felt like the new sh*ty GOW games with the runic moves.
@@Bears_64The only thing debatable is the story, which I think still goes to Spider-Man 2 the map is way better how it is now, it’s so cool to have new area to traverse. Gameplay is better and that’s just simply how it is. Especially traversal. You are such an asshole for making fun of mj face. Her face model got into a car crash and got jaw replacement surgery. She quit from all the hate. All because people like you aren’t attracted to a video game character. Awful.
I really liked how well developed and how gradual Doctor Octavius’ shift to becoming a villain was in the first game. It was really cool to listen to the audio logs and find little bits of foreshadowing around the lab and his motivation for becoming evil was understandable. In Spider-Man 2, it felt like Harry becoming Venom was too sudden and really underdeveloped. I wish they did more with the idea of Harry as Venom because I feel like it did have potential
I had a thought that maybe while Peter was off being Bully Lowenthal, Harry would offer to help Miles with his essay, so they get closer, going miles an emotional stake in the final battle and offering more opportunities to show Harrys descent into villainy
Over time I've thought it might have been better if Harry had been a more flawed character and his transformation into Venom would serve as the culmination of those flaws. As it is, he feels like the symbiote's puppet instead of its partner.
I know people like this version of Venom buuuut...I don't. Don't get it twisted, Tony Todd is him in the voice category but like, this is not really Venom, the fact that you can actually switch Venom with Carnage really says something. Venom acts more like a monster in thought, I get people like that but I see Venom more so as a sassy Ex to Spider-Man than a Universal Conqueror in his FIRST appearance. Having Harry as Venom really doesn't help either because the whole reason Venom is big as hell is because of Eddie Brock. When fighting this Venom it feels weird fighting a half dead guy. If it were Eddie I wouldn't feel as bad beating the breaks of Venom instead of a guy whose bones can be broken by sticks and stones. I have more issues with the game but Venom was so lackluster for me compared to like the Ultimate Spider-Man game Venom or even Topher Grace's Venom.
3:18 I noticed something similar here L1 + triangle is a move that dashes towards your enemies (venom dash, thunder bust, symbiote strike, arm tornado) L1 + O basically controls crowds (venom smash, reverse flux, symbiotie burst, electric arms) L1 + square is the lower damage moves (venom punch, symbiote punch, cum bomb, chain lightning, spider barrage) L1 + X basically sends your enemies into the air (venom jump, Symbiote yank, anti venom tempest, The weird arm move, galvanize) Basically all the abilities are the same as you say
I loved this game and while the RE4 Remake is my 2023 GOTY personally, Spider-Man 2 ranks really high on my list and made my Christmas vacation a banger 🔥
Same boat, RE 4 was absolutely amazing and was worth every second of my playtime, my definitive choice for GOTY. I loved playing Spider-Man 2 aswell, but im not gonna lie there are a lot of unnecessary moments in the game that make you ask yourself if that was really worth putting in the game or if they could’ve done something better. Like everyone else i was hoping for a longer playtime, we’ve been waiting so long for this release and most of us beat it in less than a week or two.
@@favoritemustard3542 sure lmao. So far. Dragons Dogma 2 is a far more impressive game. Hell Diver 2 is more deserving, the Elden Ring DLC will wipe its ass with SM2 To just name a few
I definitely think in a lot of other years it wins game of the year but the competition was too stiff. It definitely is Game of the Year material, just on the lower end.
I’m shocked that they didn’t have an electro suit for miles, the jokes right there. Also my thoughts on the symbiote was that it should’ve had the effect where it drew out anger that already existed, like with pete he could have some anger about harry and the symbiote just brings it to the surface while amplifying it too.
I liked the gameplay for the most part, hated they took away the gadgets, hated the story, it is truly awful, badly written, and nerfs the hell out of peter constantly (really? A fridge? Come on...) graphically it looks great, some of the missions were dull and boring. The parry Mechanic worked half the time and should've been left out. The timing wasn't consistent at all. The first Spider-Man game and miles game were infinitly better.
Its THE FIRST Platinum trophy I've ever gotten, purely because I loved the Venom/Carnage suits between Peter and Miles. However, I agree it was short; making it just that much longer could've changed the entire perspective of this game because they had SO MUCH story to unpack in SUCH LITTLE time. Its still a fun game though, so when NG+ comes i'll do that regardless.
They dropped the ball so hard man. I loved the bosses and feel of the game, Venom was awesome but Jesus! They really made it super watered down and safe. The side missions were mediocre and repetitive as hell, I enjoyed some of them but the overall experience was “they stole something go fight!” Which wore out it’s welcome. The biggest disappointment was the spider suits not having unique abilities and the devs ruining the gadgets by giving both Spider-Man’s the same gadgets while only giving 4. It’s so insane and limited my way of play. It also doesn’t make sense story wise or character wise, if they added the gadgets from MM and SM to Miles and Peter respectively it would’ve added a lot to each style of play and given them more unique things. I enjoyed the game but I regretted buying it full price. It’s more of what I wanted but it still felt so empty somehow and I think Elvis is putting it well.
@@D44RK_Iced_Yogs What about the propaganda? Is it not a problem for you? Some quests exist for propaganda and nothing more. A company made to spread propaganda worked on the game. Sweet Baby Inc. if you go to their site you can see spirals moving , like someone trying to hypnotize you. And there is the ' it's not a loop, it's a spiral " thing from Alan Wake 2, another game they worked on.
Eh, Venom looks cool and sounds cool…but that’s about it. He has no personality, his goals are so generic, and Harry’s rivalry with Peter is so forced. Venom was wasted imo, hell, Harry calling himself Venom doesn’t even make sense in context. Eddie called himself Venom because he wanted to ‘poison’ Peters life and ruin it because of his bitter hatred for him…Eddie Brock is the true Venom.
@@ChristianKnight-1054I get propaganda is a problem but I personally use games to escape so I didn’t even notice it until someone pointed it out. I hate it but that’s not what made the gameplay bad, everything I said was for the gameplay and my disappointment of a hyped game.
I think the reason Venom got all giant after Harry got it for the second time is just because the symbiote is like fully ready to bond and take control of humans. Like it just crashed on earth, idfk lol
It's interesting to see so many people do a 180 on their opinion, now that the hype for this game is down. I got bombarded with comments on saying how my opinion sucked, and that I'm just a hater cause I pointed out the obvious shortcomings of this game since Day 1. The fact that people (Objectively) claim this to be the Best Spider-Man game ever made is ridiculous to me even now. The first game was full of Gravitas and Memorable moments, while this game just felt like a bunch of segments put together. My hopes were high when I saw the Sandman Fight at the beginning of the Story. But the more the game continued on, the more I realised that my intuition was true. It's a mid af Story full. The only thing I liked about this game was the dynamic between Peter and Harry. I think the over reliance on the 2 playable characters (Peter and Miles) was a major reason why this game kinda sucked lmao. The first game balanced it well because the focus was on Peter, but Miles was also a central character in an organic way. Imo, they should probably keep the mainline Spider-Man Games focussing on Peter, and the Miles series focussed on Miles. With some segments where the other Spider-Man is playable. I wanted them to fully indulge in the Symbiote, Venom, and Peter storyline, instead of rushing it. I love Miles and the side-characters. But with all due respect, I'm paying that kinda money for a fulfilling story, not to see Miles do Finger Gymnastics with a Mute ho. The people who played Web of Shadows are also gonna be slightly disappointed. WoS while having its problems, did what it does best. It wasn't afraid to indulge into the Symbiote Invasion with utmost Decadence. The people who played Ultimate Spider-Man will be happy that Venom is a Playable Character again (AFTER 18 YEARS BTW). Also, the fact that they pretty much ripped off the entire Combat Moves and Animations of Venom from that game was astonishing too. I get that they were trying to reference the games that inspired them, but did they really have to go that far? Something tells me it was laziness more than honouring the old games. At least they could have made Venom be playable regardless of the story. However, one thing that they got right in every aspect is the Web-Swinging. It doesn't feel as spoon-fed, and slow af as the first game. I'll give them that. Overall, it somehow felt more like a DLC than an actual cohesive Game. In summary, it was kind of a boring game. It wasn't bad, but it was average.
Yea time turned the tide against this game so unbelievably that it's actually pretty obvious if u had actually played the older spiderman games. From the looks of it that Venom game they announced is basically Venom part of ultimate spiderman with a Wolverine cameo as boss fight prob towards the end and still have the gall to charge 40-50$ for it when they could have done it in one game like ultimate spiderman And then they introduce Wolverine game in same universe.
21:10 I think it’s mostly implied that insomniacs symbiote causes the hate and kinda controls the wearer because in the final fight you do damage and the mask comes off and Harry almost sounds suprised to see him because he says “Pete”
I feel as though the side missions in this game were a lot more in depth and memorable than the side missions in the first game or miles morales. My favourite being the one in which a girl loses her grandpa who’s got a sort of illness that’s giving him delirium or memory loss. And when you finally find him he has this long monologue that is so heartfelt and well written. And it’s got such a different for both miles morales, Peter Parker, and the player in the game. EDIT: 15:52 it’s brought up soz I prematurely made the comment
Agree, I think people are a bit to kind on the first game in a lot of ways. This one has the disadvantage of comparison. The first game is riddled with pointless checklists and sidemissions. Not all are good in the second one but there are plenty more meaningful ones.
Exactly, my point harry did not need the suit again it was the perfect time to introduce the goblin serum as an final act, agree 100% with an introduction of Eddie somewhere in the game in the early part as an reporter for the sandman and kraven assaults as a podcast or whatever trying to to rival mj for the spot at the bugle literally it was all right there, could have taken out a lot of the dumb side quest and have more plot . I was so livid with the plot for the game and was very happy it won ntn at the awards 🎉
Lol and the die hard fans wanted this to win goty. This game feels like a dlc more than an actual game. In terms of side missions even spiderman 1 had garbage side missions. Imagine if this game had side missions like rdr2 or gta 5. And what is with companies making more " movies" than games now ? Gow 2018 and spiderman 2018 had the perfect amount of cutscenes and gameplay without being boring but Ragnarok and spiderman 2 feels boring and stretched like hell
I think the reason Venom becomes bigger is because Harry is so desperate, and out of anger at Peter for his 'betrayal' and hope that he can become what he was at the start of the game (the Agent Venom lookalike), he lets the symbiote take full control. The Symbiote also realises that Harry doesn't have powers already like Peter, so the symbiote compensates for that by becoming larger and growing stronger because of that.
I love Insomniac and what they did with their Spider-Man universe but Spider-Man 2 could've been better as far as the story. It was very predictable and too short. It was definitely rushed towards the end. Without doing any side missions, almost anybody can beat the story in a day. Two days at most. I was very surprised how short the story was. Insomniac said the story was the same length as the first game but that's not true at all. The first one was definitely longer and had more depth to it. I'm not a game developer so I'm trying my best to be patient and let them cook. I feel like the fans only want more and are pressuring Insomniac because Spider-Man 2 wasn't all that great as we fans expected it to be. And with the story being sooooooo short, I understand why fans are inpatient and eagerly want more content.
Spider-Man 2 gameplaywise is definitely soo much better than the first one. However, what keeps this game from being a 10/10 is the third act of the game. It felt way too rushed and short and Tony Todd confirmed they only used 10% of his voice-acting. I'm sure he got paid well but only 10% of his work was used? Something tells me Sony rushed Insomniac to push the game earlier.
@@_YourFlyIsOpenit's a little worse if anything all the cool gadgets are gone and now we just got cool down based abilities. Feels a bit shallow sometimes but maybe that's just me.
@@whenallelsfails21 How is it worse? Didn't you all complain about the first game being too easy? Its gagdets were literally OP. You want a challenge or what?
One of the main problems with this game is that it’s the sequel and has less content than Spider-Man 2018. Less gadgets, no new game plus and no suit powers😭 It also saddens me how villains have been killed off screen and some have turned a new leaf, once Spider-Man 3 releases we’ll have less villains than 2018 as well. Despite how much of a technical marvel this game is I really wish things weren’t taken away from 18 (and even MM)
I don't get the draw at all. I hate beat'em ups, paper thin open worlds, and grindy unlock systems. Just not for me at all, but then again neither is modern Marvel or superhero stuff in general.
There's literally a video of Brian Intihar saying they knew they weren't going to reach the level of quality they wanted--not to mention his unapologetic defense of the Mary Jane missions when that could've been more time and money spent on game development elsewhere in this SPIDER-MAN GAME
@@Goodbutevilgenius Yeah i mean she just has weapon hook or something but i don't think she is superhuman, also Spiderman obviously holds back against her
Iam still early in the game but my only gripe so far is the way MJ looks, like why’d they have to change her model? Same with Peter’s? I mean he did look older but like they turned my boy into a soy boy
This is why I love this channel, right off rip Elvis plays a classic tokusatsu show then adds the famous ad voice over. As a tokusatsu fan this seemed all to familiar to me.
Game is great, maybe too safe for what they planned but fun nonetheless. My only gripes are Peter just didn't seem all too much different to Miles so switching between them wasn't something I cared ab (if anything Miles is more useful with the venom blasts early game) and that after your done it's just.. Done. Theres nothing more to do when you've done it all besides swing and maybe fight some Npcs and that's okay but idk it feels empty after.
I did not like the fast paced story I would have liked to have sat with Peter and Harry's friendship. Give us some weight to what their relationship means in this universe and a slow decent into venom. The first game was so good because it spent time with Pete and the people around him. Like when you played it you really rooted for him to get back together with MJ and for Doctor Octavius to not turn into a villian. There was some cool boss fights in Spiderman 2 with the Lizard and that part of going into his house was heartbreaking.
"Miles has a weak arc" Proceeds to skip over his arc of revenge and forgiveness. Everything that happened between Miles and Negative was fantastic and it feels like you just forgot about it. Also Miles feeling like he isn't needed is due to Harry now being there and Agent Venom essentially replacing him. Instead of Peter calling Miles for help, he has Harry.
Bro his arc was mid as hell almost felt like an afterthought in the game. We barely get see miles fight with his forgiveness throughout the game only in like two missions which makes it feel rushed
@@clinicalturtle1434 it takes 18-22 hours to 100% the game. There are issues with its pacing overall. His arc however was the most concise part about it because it is the ONLY thing that his arc really focuses on.
@chandllerburse737 Ive seen games present a proper story in just 2 hours. It's all about how you do it. This game doesn't use it's time well though. I agree that him not feeling needed was 100% the undercooked part of his story which is why it feels like Elvis ignores the actual good part of his arc lol
I think his arc was okay but could've been better. It would be cool to see miles actually try to kill Li with the symbiote only to be stopped by Peter or something like that. Kind of like Tobey with Tom vs. Green Goblin in no way home. I think something like that wouldve helped. Also I feel like they didn't focus on miles hunting li or hating li for the arc to work as well as it could.
Fantastic? You and the people who liked your comment have rock bottom standards, Miles is just a chocolate Peter Parker. His character arc of forgiving the guy who merked his daddy is the exact shit we have seen rehashed with peter Parker in every iteration whether it be games, comics or animation. Miles is so shallow that it’s annoying. He has nothing unique about him other than his electric powers. His romance with that deaf chick is cringe as fuck. Insomniac like the comic writers can’t do shit to make miles interesting so they rehash Peter Parker’s character arcs and storylines and give him electric powers. He’s the worst part of the game. And I hated how they had Peter looking like a jobber to make miles look good.
My ONLY dislike was controlling venom for all of fifteen minutes. You literally don't play as him on any other segment. Some of the side missions were pretty bad. One in particular involved graffiti altering. As far as the wings, i loved it. Spiderman has had wings since the early comics, and lots of people are so surprised he has them, lol. I agree they could've done more, but again, this is Sony. Sony has an issue cramming too many villains into a single film. I'm not a fan of Kraven also, but he served his purpose as a threat. The game is already ridiculously long. It almost drags sometimes, but I do agree that the side missions could've been more connected to other villains that could potentially appear in the next and final game. Even though there were issues like all big budget games, you can tell they put in a lot of work and time into it. I still gave the game 10 out of 10.
So basicallly, the big problem here is that the game played too safe. I'm going through it right it now, and I'm loving it so far, but most of the baby sitting side missions (mostly from Miles), and some of the narrative pieces put me off sometimes. I like that idea that Kraven should've gotten to Black Suit instead of back to Harry.
In regards to the fast travel system, it's really useful for whenever you get that rare moment where you collide into a building with no way out, outside of that it's pretty useless in my opinion.
@chandllerburse737 as I mentioned it's rare, and It only happened to me a couple of times in the first game for me, and I can't recall it happening in the second game
Elvis, the reason why the Symbiote got bigger when Harry gets it later is because it’s slowly evolving as the game continues and getting stronger. Kraven literally eggs it on continuously throughout the story. This is seen in the scene when Peter is in that “unbreakable” cage and even with the suit is unable to break out until Kraven starts baiting him and the suit starts getting more aggressive and stronger. We see the suit change on Peter. It gets more veiny and monstrous. So when it get backs to Harry it’s already a way stronger Symbiote, and Harry doesn’t really try to resist it so there’s nothing stopping it from ya know- Evolving more. We see it at the end when he gets wings too. Even in the very ending it was still changing and getting stronger.
Plus it seems to feed on anger. It was fine with Harry at the start (because Harry was happy to be alive), moved onto a stressed Peter who was very angry beneath the surface, and then back onto an extremely angry Harry, who both needed and wanted the symbiote.
I know I’m gonna get flak but the game felt way too woke for me. Like they had a list of pandering they had to check off. I loved the game and 100% completed it. It’s just the stupid ass deaf girl missions and helping a gay guy set up for prom? A dance? I don’t remember. Those missions were pointless. They felt like they were added just to check some boxes. Idk I like representation in games but not blatant lazy pandering. Also this game felt far less cohesive than the first. The worst part to me is the ending. Peter realizes it’s too much for him to save the whole city so what does he do? He dumps the whole load onto Miles and retires? Great game for the most part but it felt much more rushed and safe.
Yeah and Insomniacs director just brushing off any criticism of MJ being strong as “lol you just mad” is pathetic. Forgot characterization or meaningful development. Just insert a power fantasy. I don’t mind representation either, but I might just pick the game up on a sale.
I really dont understand the switch up on spiderman 2 thats happened lately. For the first two months everyone was singing its praises and calling in a major GoTY contender, but after it lost at the game awards all that anyone has been saying is that its bad or dissapointing.
22:30 I got you Elvis! So basically a symbiote will amplify a host’s inner desires and learn from those. Peter wanted to be a better Spider-Man so the symbiote gave him strength and saved his life etc. Peter started to see it as a drug and became aggressive. So the symbiote became aggressive. Once it bonded to Harry it used the power and anger from Peter, (and Harry) to increase his size, power, and hate. You’re welcome! 👍
That's mental gymnastics cause symbiote can only add the mass equivalent to the hosts body originally when they were introduced as spiderman lore , A symbiote gets it's mass from how much it eats or else it decays or dies. And ur explanation doesn't fit since Peter as black symbiote wasnt eating ppl left and right so that doesn't explain the BS that venom grew too big when he bonded with Harry later and only they he started going on all human diet. They basically used King in Black Venom which was the latest iteration of venom who was a amalgamation of Venom+Knull that is why he was so fking huge and used Sony film Venom's design , nothing contextual wise with narrative of story.
@hydra Dude if comic books didn't exist , (sorry not sorry) u fking dumasses wouldn't have had the game or spiderman char to play as in the first place so show some respect to the sources material.
The side missions in this game were meant to add more charm to Spider Man. Like both of them are part of new York city, helping anyone who needs help, not just the big threats like Venom. Sometimes it's just the little things. This game in that regard made it feel like more spider man than a lot of spidey media nowadays.
I’d rather chase a thief with a old lady’s purse than to catch a “ monster “ in a blind woman’s yard. I’d rather do pizza delivery missions rather than “ flight simulator “ I’d rather collect 1000 backpacks then to look for my uncles wack ass suit pieces I don’t get why they don’t stick to the basics of friendly neighborhooding
Agent Venom is one of my favorites characters even though Flash isn’t Agent Venom the game like he originally is supposed to be in the comics I still liked this rendition of Agent Venom and wish we gotten more of him. So I wishes they made Kraven the main villain of the game to do an adaptation of the Iconic Kraven's last hunt comic and saved the venom stuff for a later game.
I like how everyone universally agrees miles' final suit sucks

This game just feels too safe. Like you said, it really feels like they wanted to be more ambitious but had to save it for the next game.

@@sideswipe3023 By safe, he could partially mean gameplay. It's kind of samey.
it's insane that they chose an adidas ad over an actual suit for miles
I would love if in the third game, for a lot of the side missions, they have Peter/Miles fighting against a bunch of D-list villains. Let us take down Big Wheel, The Wall, Kangaroo, and other ‘lame’ villains. I think that’d be a fun way to have interesting side missions and giving lesser known characters the spotlight.
I would just like #3 to be a spiderman game. That would be refreshing.
Give us Paste Pot Pete you cowards!
I feel like the series is too grounded for that. Those villains would have to be really campy lol
@@lucaleone4331 well it was grounded... after 2 we might see wizards and dragons in part 3.
@@BuryTheLight-tdsfr the new ones they brought in are mostly ass and there are too many useless repeats while other important repeats were snubbed
i kept getting so confused when every time i’d switch peter’s costume, it would just switch right back to the venom one whenever i did anything. like why would you let me change my costume, and then force me to wear a different one???

Girl was fighting mobs of symbiotes alone. Like wtf
Or better yet, make her a fashion model who comforts her husband and isn't the stereotypical toxic "girlboss" who don't need to listen to no man.
Everyone seems to forget how hard they gutted the gadgets & the repercussions it had on the stealth as a whole
i miss the remote mines from miles morales. made stealth so easy when there were large groups of people in one place.
I feel like Insomniac would make an insanely good Tony Hawk game on this engine
Yes!!
Tony Hawk? Hey, I skated with that guy!
Haven’t even played the game but “the time for a mile morales original” meme gets me every time for some reason
I was happy to see him clip the "That shit's ass, bro" video.
My favorite side missions in the game were definitely the sandman ones, since after I beat all the sand dudes and got the crystal, ripping it open was super satisfying for me because of the resistance on the triggers while breaking it open, super cathartic for me.
its was crunchy
Yeah it was satisfying to do that
The ps5 controller be putting in the work
yes, especially when it was the first game i played on my ps5
You liked those repetitive ass missions because.... your controller felt good? Idk man maybe there's something wrong with me.
Mj killing is crazy ☠️
Spiderman and Elvis, the dynamic duo
Although I was left wanting more, I still loved this game. Whenever I played it, I didn't want to put the controller down.
I played it for 20 hours and I haven’t touched it since. I got 111 hours on Spider-Man 1, this game was kind of a letdown imo.

These are big word! Big word don’t automatically mean good description!
Explain specific examples please.
Coming from a huge Spider-Man fan, this game was like a solid 8/10 for me. I think what they were really lacking this time around in the story division was comic writers. First game had them and I think they're some of the reason why it turned out so good. Having people who not only know these characters better than most, but also added on so much more would've been beneficial, and probably could've made the Harry/Venom stuff work way better.
Making spiderman glide makes the game a 5/10 for me.
It completely misses the point of a spiderman game.

@@thefinalboss2403 So the Spider-Man comics, where the entire character came from doesn't and those came from doesn't get it, but you do?

Agreed. Loved insomniac’s venom DESIGN, but as a character Eddie is the only true venom.
3:18 I noticed something similar here
L1 + triangle is a move that dashes towards your enemies (venom dash, thunder bust, symbiote strike, arm tornado)
L1 + O basically controls crowds (venom smash, reverse flux, symbiotie burst, electric arms)
L1 + square is the lower damage moves (venom punch, symbiote punch, cum bomb, chain lightning, spider barrage)
L1 + X basically sends your enemies into the air (venom jump, Symbiote yank, anti venom tempest, The weird arm move, galvanize)
Basically all the abilities are the same as you say
I call the L1 + X spider arm move the spider impregnation ong.

The first Spider-Man game and miles game were infinitly better.
Elvis Elvis I have your answer for venom. It's venom.
I know this game isn't perfect, but holy shit I love it so much.
And I don't care what y'all say, Venom was fucking awesome.
Lol keep loving your shitty game bro

From the looks of it that Venom game they announced is basically Venom part of ultimate spiderman with a Wolverine cameo as boss fight prob towards the end and still have the gall to charge 40-50$ for it when they could have done it in one game like ultimate spiderman
And then they introduce Wolverine game in same universe.
You are more than welcome to make more exceptions! It would be awesome if you do more gaming content🤘🏻
That miles morales original cost spider-man 2 the game awards
21:10 I think it’s mostly implied that insomniacs symbiote causes the hate and kinda controls the wearer because in the final fight you do damage and the mask comes off and Harry almost sounds suprised to see him because he says “Pete”
"I dont understand why they added the wing suit"?
Because its fun!
It’s not but ok
@timforsgren5275 atleast some of those were repeatable. Why can't the hunter bases be redone?
being more memorable than ass isnt really a praise
I don't think I had an Elvis the Alien Video in my Recommendation in THREE YEARS!!!
Didn’t expect a Japanese Spider-Man appearance but…Fair
I think the reason Venom becomes bigger is because Harry is so desperate, and out of anger at Peter for his 'betrayal' and hope that he can become what he was at the start of the game (the Agent Venom lookalike), he lets the symbiote take full control. The Symbiote also realises that Harry doesn't have powers already like Peter, so the symbiote compensates for that by becoming larger and growing stronger because of that.
Just beat the game, let's see if we think the same. I agree with the title so far
It’s the same game gameplay wise lol
@@_YourFlyIsOpenit's a little worse if anything all the cool gadgets are gone and now we just got cool down based abilities. Feels a bit shallow sometimes but maybe that's just me.
@@whenallelsfails21 No you’re exactly right, one could argue it’s worse due to that and the removal of the unique suit powers.
Sony did rush insomniac to push the game out. Bryan Intihar said that they had to cut a lot of stuff from the 2nd and 3rd act to get the game out.
@@whenallelsfails21 How is it worse? Didn't you all complain about the first game being too easy? Its gagdets were literally OP. You want a challenge or what?
“Harry is not going through withdrawals he’s just dying” has to be the most insane comment I’ve heard🤣
One of the main problems with this game is that it’s the sequel and has less content than Spider-Man 2018. Less gadgets, no new game plus and no suit powers😭
It also saddens me how villains have been killed off screen and some have turned a new leaf, once Spider-Man 3 releases we’ll have less villains than 2018 as well.
Despite how much of a technical marvel this game is I really wish things weren’t taken away from 18 (and even MM)
True, I don’t know how people think this is a better game than the first. Only upgrades are webslinging and graphics.
It's a shame when a sequel takes away more than it adds.
Omg that commercial intro in the beginning brought back so many good memories of watching anime
*I was NOT EXPECTING THIS!* 😮. This game was great by the way.
I don't get the draw at all. I hate beat'em ups, paper thin open worlds, and grindy unlock systems. Just not for me at all, but then again neither is modern Marvel or superhero stuff in general.
it was ok at best
Remember he's your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man! Yeah, it can be a bit tedious at times, but it does fit the character.
Has Elvis covered the Resident Evil games? I know he did the movies, but I’d 100% watch him cover the games. 👀🍿🥤Please Elvis! 🙏
There's literally a video of Brian Intihar saying they knew they weren't going to reach the level of quality they wanted--not to mention his unapologetic defense of the Mary Jane missions when that could've been more time and money spent on game development elsewhere in this SPIDER-MAN GAME
Definitely do more gaming reviews, it’s good to see a reviewer like you talk about gaming stuff I love.
Cletus is actually getting a dlc rather than being a character in the next game.
Imma be honest after being introduced to the invisibility... I completely forgot about it and never needed it 💀
The Matpat editing is driving me3 insane
The arsonist are apart of the flame side mission for parker, and its really good
It’s alright

Iam still early in the game but my only gripe so far is the way MJ looks, like why’d they have to change her model? Same with Peter’s? I mean he did look older but like they turned my boy into a soy boy
True MJ looks wack. Everytime she pops up she just gives off an uncanny valley vibe, like polar express vibes.
This is why I love this channel, right off rip Elvis plays a classic tokusatsu show then adds the famous ad voice over. As a tokusatsu fan this seemed all to familiar to me.
Not the video I was expecting. But I'm definitely not going to complain.
when mj got the gun upgrade- it literally felt like playing dead space😂
I think we can all agree tho Spider-Man 2 was never winning the Lame Awards
Yeah it isn’t as good as the other games in that category
@@onesaucynougat7471 most sane reply I’ve heard on the topic
Game is great, maybe too safe for what they planned but fun nonetheless. My only gripes are Peter just didn't seem all too much different to Miles so switching between them wasn't something I cared ab (if anything Miles is more useful with the venom blasts early game) and that after your done it's just.. Done. Theres nothing more to do when you've done it all besides swing and maybe fight some Npcs and that's okay but idk it feels empty after.
Am I the only one who didn't notice all of these stupid plot things just because I was gawking at 19 inches of venom 😂
"Miles has a weak arc"
Proceeds to skip over his arc of revenge and forgiveness.
The suit enhances what ever feeling you have when you get it.
Aw u didnt mention how MJ literally looks like a 50 yo aunt
I miss the old fast travel cutscene with Peter on the train but game was fun
Love the mission when you ride bikes with Harry
So basicallly, the big problem here is that the game played too safe. I'm going through it right it now, and I'm loving it so far, but most of the baby sitting side missions (mostly from Miles), and some of the narrative pieces put me off sometimes. I like that idea that Kraven should've gotten to Black Suit instead of back to Harry.
The arsonists work for carnage in the flame side mission in Spider-Man 2
The fact that many people didn't feel like playing all the Flame missions and missed the lame Carnage "cameo" is the saddest part.
Who I loved it
In regards to the fast travel system, it's really useful for whenever you get that rare moment where you collide into a building with no way out, outside of that it's pretty useless in my opinion.
@chandllerburse737 as I mentioned it's rare, and It only happened to me a couple of times in the first game for me, and I can't recall it happening in the second game
@chandllerburse737do you not know how to read?
Elvis, the reason why the Symbiote got bigger when Harry gets it later is because it’s slowly evolving as the game continues and getting stronger.
Kraven literally eggs it on continuously throughout the story.
This is seen in the scene when Peter is in that “unbreakable” cage and even with the suit is unable to break out until Kraven starts baiting him and the suit starts getting more aggressive and stronger.
We see the suit change on Peter.
It gets more veiny and monstrous.
So when it get backs to Harry it’s already a way stronger Symbiote, and Harry doesn’t really try to resist it so there’s nothing stopping it from ya know-
Evolving more.
I loved the Hand ninjas easter egg
That's cool but Baldurs gate is an amazing game
I really dont understand the switch up on spiderman 2 thats happened lately. For the first two months everyone was singing its praises and calling in a major GoTY contender, but after it lost at the game awards all that anyone has been saying is that its bad or dissapointing.
It’s a thing for all types of media imo
They basically used King in Black Venom which was the latest iteration of venom who was a amalgamation of Venom+Knull that is why he was so fking huge and used Sony film Venom's design , nothing contextual wise with narrative of story.
people that have never read the comics just making stuff up to try and force it to make sense lmao
@@ak-ub1ym alright checkmate, comic logic! Boom can’t beat that hmm
@@newp0rt nah dude
@hydra Dude if comic books didn't exist , (sorry not sorry) u fking dumasses wouldn't have had the game or spiderman char to play as in the first place so show some respect to the sources material.
Great to see Elvis doing gaming content, Spider-Man 2 holds a special place in my heart, and is my favourite game of 2023
did you play anything else if such a game won your no1 spot?
I agree with the second half of the video and the miles original complaint but the first half of the video is just nitpicking
I’d rather do pizza delivery missions rather than “ flight simulator “
I’d rather collect 1000 backpacks then to look for my uncles wack ass suit pieces
I don’t get why they don’t stick to the basics of friendly neighborhooding
Agent Venom is one of my favorites characters even though Flash isn’t Agent Venom the game like he originally is supposed to be in the comics I still liked this rendition of Agent Venom and wish we gotten more of him.
So I wishes they made Kraven the main villain of the game to do an adaptation of the Iconic Kraven's last hunt comic and saved the venom stuff for a later game.
Miles and Peter both participate in the raft breakout mission, but besides that, I think you’re right
The death side quest was so fucking annoying lol. I got tinnitus from it lol
Lol true.
It’s nice that insomniac are gonna make it so the arms and symbiote change color with the suit you choose and new game plus
Fo rhe flame missions. Do them.
If you would’ve completed the cult side missions you would’ve known more about them, and met carnage.
