My dream, way back, was to find a stainless steel Marina. Loved the model since 1974. Just found your channel, I shall lap up all your broadcasts. Peace be unto you.
Awesome - overall the best car I had as a young bloke with young kids was a metallic green Marina 1.8 Special OOM327R ; bought for £325, 64k miles, NEVER let me down, sold 2 years later for £250 `06` miles, just Oil changes+ brake pads / shoes, plugs & points . Happy memories,
My father had an early 1.8 auto with dynamo. I converted it to a 1.3 manual with alternator. That was done in the back lane, we lifted the engines in and out by hand. I was 13 at the time.
Excellent, love the Marina Dad had several I learnt to drive in a 1.8 coupe. Shem this was bought to remove the engine, glad you can restore, new subscriber here
Now, if it still had the original engine and g/box I'd be interested. Stroke weakness down my left side means I need an auto. Save autos for the older generation of car enthusiasts whenever you can. Good luck with the project. I like your presenting style.
Ah if only. Unfortunately all the auto gear, apart from the pedal box and selector has gone. Finding a replacement Borg Warner 65 along with the torque converter and adaptors has proved difficult. I do have another marina that is auto in storage that will be pulled out at some point and resurrected.
Ben, this video is ace, I've got an Ital and didn't know what to do regarding those drain holes in the windscreen aperture, will now be using your suggestion! Thank you! 😁
Mechanically yes as they are standard Triumph/MG mechanically. Some things are specific to Marinas but the owners club is very good at providing reproduced panels etc.
I would remove the vinyl top completely. I think these cars look better with a slick top. A friend of my mom had a 73 Austin Marina in that colour with the slick top. Much nicer.
@@claytonspeedcars I had a Mk2 1978 Marina HL/TC in Tahiti Blue with the same interior as this one and blue vinyl roof - and yes it was an fast car back then and very reliable as well. No rust on mine as I looked after it and rustproofed it and would still have owned it today if it hadn't been written off after a VW van drove out from a junction without stopping right in front of me. Went to the scrap in excellent condition inside and out apart from the bad accident damage of course.
I owned a Morris Marina it was mighty little car till I blew a hole into the top of a piston and cost of fixing it was prohibitive if it was possible to find the parts anyway

Thanks! Might feature the Z3 on a video later in the year. We've owned it from new!

Brilliant video Ben 👍
Thanks!
I think the one my mother had was a 1.8. Not sure, but it was a four speed Mk 1 and sounded dope.
I had a mk 11 marina 1300 i miss it! It was a good video that,

Cant beat an old bmc/bl car
Can you still parts ok for these cars?

What’s the rust gel you use?
It is Bilthamber Deox C Gel.

Is this a, 1800 tc. I owned a 74 m reg Jubilee in early 80's. Yellow luminescence. Great car.
Nope, it was just an 1800 single carb. The mk2 TC was the HL, pretty much the same trim but with less oomph!

No rust in Marinas in Melbourne, I worked for a British car breaker in Melbourne.
Do any vehicles rust over there?
