GAME: Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
AUTHOR: Too Kyo Games
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is a fantasy-mystery adventure game taking place across six chapters. Players control Yuma Kokohead, an amnesiac detective-in-training who must solve a series of incidents with the help of the god of death, Shinigami. Gameplay alternates between Kanai Ward in the real world, where the story unfolds, and the Mystery Labyrinth, a dungeon that is formed out of the mysteries surrounding a case.

You know, the blood twist is actually foreshadowed previously. When Karen died, Desuhiko said “and the blood… what’s with the blood?!” Also, when Yuma finds Shachi’s body, he says he’s lying in a “strangely-colored pool.” Furthermore, the reason the master detectives at the start were burned? No blood.
Cause they were actually human. The only characters who die are in chapter 0 XD. I guess that's why Kodaka felt like he needed to kill off what was essentially a cast of characters. To make up for the fact that he wasn't really killing anyone else the rest of the game.
@@UchaNekomeNah no way that's the case. Nobody died in SDR2 right?
Which is funny, because one of the most important things in Chapter 0, which proves the carriage was swapped, was *Yuma's blood*, which is red.
@@UchaNekome You mean Chapter 0? Chapter 1 was the Nail-Man Killings.
yeah even the other master detective character said the pink blood is weird but they accepted the pink blood to be normal here because of the Kanai Ward living condition
I think we can all agree that the real beauty of the blood plot twist was that Kodaka KNEW that most of the people playing this game would be Danganronpa fans
He did the Meta thing right this time like that fucker basically gaslit his entire fanbase but to be fair something should have screamed alarm bells when our MC had red blood in the prologue. Honestly as much as I love DR2 this might be the best thing Kodaka has fathered
@@SGSenseinot just the prologue. Desuhiko had red blood when he had nosebleeds, and every time Shinigami slit Yuma's throat to reveal the question inside of the Mystery Labyrinth.
Kodaka is such a prankster and I love it
@@SGSensei
Would also explains why all of the detectives in the prologue died by fire, so the player wouldn’t see the red blood which would result in them questioning the sudden pink blood in Ch 1.
The fact that the only time red blood was seen was when it isn’t from a corpse would trick a lot of people thinking that’s just how the game works and probably not question it.
@@SGSenseiHe did it right before too. V3s ending was a treat
"Dear god, everyone we met in Kanai Ward was an Unkillable Homunculus all along. But that means... I didn't actually kill anyone after all! I'm off the hook! High-five, Shinigami!"
Yakou: "Hrrrgh....meeeeat buuuuuunss...."
Yuma: "...oh yeah. Zombies. Well, uh...this is awkward...but it's just assault with concussion! So...no issue...I don't think..."
@@Leiliel1"wait..they are all zombies right? Maybe I can spin this as self defense"
"Yuma did nothing wrong" smile
"Kill or be killed" right Makoto?

Kodaka posted on twitter a few days (weeks?) after Rain Code came out “I want every Danganronpa Fan to play Rain Code to the end” and when fans asked what he meant he was like “You’ll see”. Something tells me he likely meant the blood twist.
Edit: it turns out he quote tweeted the original tweet with, “Only those who have finished Rain Code will know what these words mean. You will realize that you were deceived”
He clearly spent a lot of time laying the bread crumbs to follow, while also subverting Danganronpa fans expectations. It was the only major plot twist that actually got me, and when looking back on it, it was masterfully done.
Even people that haven't played DR series get got by the twist.
I can already feel the immense satisfaction that man felt when he saw people get to that point. I can just imagine him sitting there just thinking "Yes, just a little longer until you're *completely mindfucked!* [Insert evil laughter here]."
Time to list everytime red blood was seen.
1st Yuma's cut on the door in the Amaterasu Express. Due to the small amount and it being ON a shiny metalic surface gives it an ambiguious color for some
2nd and most often, Yuma's blood in the mystery labrynth. Hand waved for "Design" and "it's the mystery labrynth, it's weird"
And the 3rd and last one? Desuhiko's nose bleeds. Once again, potentially hand waved as, "oh it's not censorship worthy" or even possibly Unnoticed to some, NICO.
There's other references to this twist as well. Yuma refers Shachi's body being "strangely colored" and Yuma actually is unsure that Karen is dead right after she vomits out the pink blood using the phrase "I think she is dead." Even Desuhiko asked upon Karen's body "What's with the blood?"
Also for the cut on the door it was dried and even in Danganronpa dried blood is red. As shown by the Tragedy classroom.
That’s also why Zilch burned the bodies in the train and no blood from them was seen.
For the entire game, I legit thought the reason why the blood was red in the mystery labrynth was to simply make it easier to read the text lol if it was pink, they'd have to change the text color to black or something, or else it'd be so hard to read the white text. After the reveal I was like "...oh nevermind then-"
I had put together all of the examples except for Desuhiko's nose bleeds. Good catch because I just tried to quickly get through most of his h*rny line reads
Funny thing, the very first Shinigami Barrel minigame solution was “RED”
A red herring, right? Heh. Funny. The "censorship" became a red herring.
That moment when you realize Kodaka wrote a whole-ass game around trolling his fans from the Danganronpa days.
Literally Kodaka's career after DRV3. World's End Club was one big bait and switch cash grab with the marketing designed to target Danganronpa and Zero Escape fans.
@@DenarianLordwas WEC really cash grab? i remember it having a somewhat decent premise tho it has been so long since i played that game
@@kiel127 Oh yeah it was. Everything released about that game, from developer discussions to promotional art, to the colors utilized- playing up a dark and creepy atmosphere with plenty of Danganronpa blood pink on display- to the game's opening was extremely deceptive.
They focused on and hyped up the killing game/murder mystery aspect of the game, and focused on artwork from the game's first chapter exclusively. Even the game's opening, from the moment you first turn it on and see the start screen, helps support this.
And then you play it aaaaaand bait and switch. The 'killing game' aspect is contained solely in the first chapter which can be described as a parody of what you'd see in Zero Escape and danganronpa, and after that joke is over it turns into a side-scroller fit for ages 3 and up.
It was very clear after DRV3 that Kodaka was done with Danganronpa, and Horikoshi was done with Zero Escape after the third game. To the point where they left Spike Chunsoft and started their own company, Too-Kyo games, to get away from the managers pressuring them to make more of those franchises.
World's End Club, once marketed as Death March Club, was their first game and it showed maybe a tenth of the polish that went into DR1 and 999. They needed a project to get off the ground and bring some money in. And they decided that a marketing campaign exploiting the fans of Danganronpa and Zero Escape- who they pretty much admitted they viewed with contempt by this point in certain developer interviews- was the way to do it. And I have not trusted those two or the company they made ever since.
@@kiel127kinda? So when the game was shown off it was literally the FIRST part of the game with aquarium I think it was. We didn’t get shown the literal game just a part that feels very DR/Zero escape.
Spike Chunsoft: “Okay we need a twist nobody will expect, any ideas?”
Kodaka: Hold my beer I got something
"Kodaka sir, that's a LOT of beer-"
"I HAVE SO MANY THINGS-"
"Hold my pepto"
He GOT something all right!
47:48 I cannot *_believe_* Nico's joke from episode 11 about Yuma needing a gun actually had a pay off.. Guess he and Kodaka really do share the same brain.
"Did he never cut himself?" Yuma DID cut himself and bleed red, back on the Amaterasu Express. In fact I think you commented on it at the time. And every time Shinigami cut Yuma's throat in the Mystery Labyrinths the blood stain on the walls is red.
… Every time someone in the audience calls foul on this meta plot twist, Kodaka is gesturing to the literal writing on the wall with a smug face. >)X^D
I always thought yuma having red blood was weird and then I thought maybe HE was the successful homonculi and that's why he couldn't remember anything and that's why his blood was red, I was so wrong XD
@@rabbit_trolls3940So I wasn’t the only one who got it mixed up with Yuma and Makoto. 😂
Kurumi: Man, I'm hungry.
Yuma: *How hungry...?*
… [ Nervous Sweating Intensifies ] >):^[
Just give her a meat bun
I saw a comic that went like that.
So, here's is thought:
What if Kurumi's Homunculi not only killed her original self, but also her original self's grandfather?
Honestly it’s pretty likely, which is a bit sad since kirumi thought he went missing but he probably unfortunately died by her hands unknowingly
The Grandad refused the blood test and disappeared shortly after that. Meaning it was before the Homunculi were created.
@@perfectlyslicedegg3348 Yes, which is why there is a good chance that he was killed by the Homunculi.
Likely. The zombie homonculis went on a murder spree killing everyone inside Kanai Ward and Kurumi grandpa’s the only one without a homonculi so that’s why he was missing
Kodaka: Hmm, how do I create a compelling twist AND mess with my existing fanbase?
*spills a bottle of pepto*
Kodaka: Eureka!
Kodaka finally made the Pink Blood Lore relevant in one of his games.
"em acshuly" time: There was an instance that monokuma referenced pink blood in v3.
But... That more of a mega joke.
@@D3MON30A non-meta, lore relevant pink blood-related thing from DR1 when we learn how blood changes color over time (pink to red, from the player's perspective)
We’ve come a long way man
There are only three occasions in this game where blood is not bepto. The first is Chapter 0 where Yuma cuts his finger. The second is the mystery labyrinths. And the third is Desuhiko's nosebleeds and biting his lip.
One thing i noticed the game does foreshadow that everyone is dead/replaced in kanai ward is that in the prologue chapter when Yuma and Shinigami are on the roof of the building Yakou took them to. Shinigami says this place smell goods and that nothing smells sweeter then the stench of death. So i think Shinigami was sensing the deaths of everyone who was killed by the homunculi .
It took about 10 years, but one of Nico’s random predictions back from DR1 finally came true just in a different Kodaka game: everyone has been killed and replaced by their clones. Nico’s random prediction Forte strikes again.
He predicted it way back then? I just remember when he came up with the clone theory in v3.
It was a prophecy
Leave it to Kodaka to pull the rug right out from all of his Danganronpa fans with the secret of the blood! It’s such a Kodaka move that I can’t be mad about it and looking back, there were a ton of clues.
1. Yuma’s blood in the first case was red and all of his blood in the Mystery Labyrinths have been red. In addition, all of the bodies were burned, so we didn’t see their blood.
2. His reaction to the first victim of the Nail Man case and vaguely commenting on the blood.
3. When Karen coughed up pink blood, Yuma ask if she was really dead in shock and even Desuhiko commented “And the blood ……. what’s with that blood?!”. Also, Desuhiko’s expressions with the nosebleed and biting his lips had red blood.
4. When Yuma comments on Sachi’s body and the bloodstains, he describes it as a “strangely colored pool”.
My favorite thing about the pink blood twits are the ways they both hid and hinted at it ever since the beginning of the game.
1. All the people who died in case 1 were burned to death, so you couldn't tell what blood in this world really looked like until case 2, where they showed the pink blooded corpse to fool you.
2. If you look back at the first case, the piece of evidence that was the blood on the door from Yumas cut was red. Such a small detail that can be very easily overlooked.
3. They play on the expectations of the players who have already played Danganronpa before, making them believe that all games made by the same people have the same esthetics, like the pink blood.
This game is genius man!
Kodaka: "Gosh, after V3, I don't think I could possibly get anymore mindfreakingly meta, I have no idea how I could possibly top that.......oh wait, yes I do ;)"
I love the little details in the Shinigami Puzzle in this Mystery Labyrinth:
1. Shinigami isn't smiling.
2. With each puzzle, the sun sets further and further until it's completely dark.
Before the twist: Omg Pepsto bismol blood is back in different game!!! I mean it Kodaka’s game so he know us fan very well.
After the twist: We’re been tricked, we’ve been backstabbed, and we’ve been quite possibly bamboozled.
Shinigami: We've been speckaldored!
Yuma: That's not even a word and I agree with you!
Also, if homunculus bodies have pink blood, then the remains of what we thought were our friends of the detective agency... Hmm, the plot thickens
Me: How bad can Kanai Ward Ultimate Secret can be? It can’t be that bad
All of Kanai Ward Residents were eaten by their homunculus counterpart and replaced
Me:(Jaw dropped to floor level)…………Oh. That bad
Imagine not being a DR fan playing this game and you reach that twist, it would seem like the most stupid twist in all gaming without the prior knowledge LMAO
So true.
me, seeing yuma's blood on the latch in chapter 0 was red: huh, weird inconsistency. that mustve been an oversight. im sure thatll never be relevant again
Hey Nico, fun fact about the blood of humunculo being pink instead of red...
Remember how all the "corpses" of the other detectives in the factory had pink blood?
Kodaka: "FOOLED YOU!"
Kodaka: FELL FOR IT FOOL, THUNDER CROSS SPLIT ATTACK.
Yay! Vivia's alive!
Vivia: Oh... Darn.
I'm pretty sure 90% of us have been waiting for you to get to this twist. I can't wait to see how you're going to react.
Hahahaaa, yeah. Kodaka really said "What do you mean; artstyle?"
I cant wait so basically gonna check now
I seen it done better before, it's called Nier: Ghestalt
It JUST occurred to me. What if Yuma actually WAS a good cook but Chief Yakou grossed out cause he COULDN’T eat normal food like that.
Holy crap it makes more sense now…
Fun fact: That group shot towards the end of the video is the only time you see Seth (the Nail Man Peacekeeper) without his raincoat. He's the guy in the white uniform above Shinigami/between Yakou and the nun. All other characters that only appear outdoors reuse their outdoors models with no change. They made a separate model for his indoors look for one scene (presumably for more that ended up getting cut from the final game).
I like how everyone forgets that in universe Danganronpa’s blood is red (even calling the characters colorblind when they refer to it as red). Now it’s an actual plot point.
Everyone else has already pointed it out but I'd like to add the context of pink vs red blood.
Red blood is not a censorship issue in Japan and has always been a stylistic choice in the Danganronpa series and this game very subtly plays off player expectations. Even in the first episode with the tutorial case Nico pointed out "oh wow the blood is red now" and then the first nail man body is covered in pink blood which technically is played out in a shocked and confused Yuma but it's never explicitly stated it's the pink blood specifically causing Yuma to freak out so the player is falsely lulled into a sense of normalcy with the pink blood.
However if you pay close attention the only times red blood is shown in game it is not shown coming from a body, and is framed in such a way you could easily handwave it as "oh that's just the mystery labyrinth" outside of the first instance of blood on the lock to the infirmary on the train in the first case. Even when Shinigami slices Yuma's neck, the scene frames it as a white silhouette with a white liquid violently spraying out over a black background, then a camera angle shift before it turns to red on the walls, doors etc.
It's played extremely close to the chest and I think most people by the reveal of pink homunculus blood had completely put it out of their mind as anything strange or unusual. Kodaka really, REALLY thought about the meta twist on that one
edit: also based on Nico's reaction to the plot reveal I think I should add that people, in real life, often have very very hard time articulating their thoughts while in shock, you know, the kind that would be caused by seeing a corpse. Obviously done for the sake of a reveal, but in reality people in shock tend to not relay their thoughts accurately while their mind is TRYING NOT TO LITERALLY EXPLODE IN FEAR
I still remember when my mom had to go to the ER a year or two ago. It ended up being nothing, but it still scared me more than I had ever been before and have every been since. It was, quite literally, the only thing I could think about. Nothing else mattered. Anything that should've mattered was immediately pushed out by that one, single thought. I was in absolute shock for most of the time I was in the ER waiting room. When I finally got back to my car (before we knew what was going on), I broke down sobbing for several minutes.
... All that to say that even the prospect of someone dying is enough to scare most people so much that they simply cannot function, let alone form a coherent thought.
@@Gestridit's so sad, I naively thought people couldn't get easily shocked with a dead body or someone bleeding out because of movies and shows showing them 😢
Good thing nothing bad happened to your mom ❤
Eh.. I still don't buy it. Even if Yuma was shocked at first, he saw SEVERAL dead bodies in the Nail Man investigation. The question of the Pink blood should've settled into his head eventually. At the very least, we would've heard something about it in his inner thoughts or the notes he took in the menu.
@@DLxxx Like Yuma said, he thought it was just a side effect of Shinigami haunting him.
@@GestridAh, right. My bad, lol. That line is so brief that I honestly keep forgetting about it.
Never in my life i would have thought that the pink blood is a genuine plot point
Yuma: I killed so many people in my past case….
Also Yuma: Wait I having killed anyone ever since I entered this city?! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!
Something i do find interesting that foreshadowed the reveals in this chapter, if you did have yuma did eat a meat bun, he’d comment on how he didn’t see why everyone was so obsessive with them. Like they weren’t THAT good
Nico... You weee the first person i have seen point out the red blood from yuma in chapter 0. You almost got on the train of bullshit plot guessing... But you missed it.
Komeda: nico! Your so close to the bullshit guessing power! Just get on the train!
Nico: wait... I lost my yusuke body pillow... Hang on im gonna check the lost and found.
Komeda: NOOOOOOOO! *his no fades as the train departs*
Nagito seeing his blood: am i… a homunculus?
Hajime: n-no nagito you’re not
Makoto naegi: yeah, if we were homunculi we would’ve known
Yuma: Is that Mystery Phantom version of me?!? I can’t believe it..........I’m.........I’m.......... I’M NOT SO SHORT ANYMORE WOOHOO!!!
Shinigami: Master you’re still short, it’s just this copycat that’s big.
Yuma: .............Just let me have this please.
When I got to the Pepto blood twist I literally flashed back to the moment on the train where Yuma accidentally cut his finger and smeared his blood on the door latch and how it was a regular red color. I was on a flight at the time and stared straight into the back of the seat in front of me amazed by how the game managed to gaslight me into thinking the pink was normal.
The pink blood plot twist has to be ballbastic, flabbergast, & bamboozled shit I ever seen. Kodaka definitely take advantage the Danganronpa’s fanbase knowledge & use it as actual plot in the story. He made us like a fool & we never notice every details right in front to our face.
After the twist pretty much everyone started jokingly the rest of DR’s cast are Homunculus themself lol
That's how junko keeps coming back, she's actually a homunculus
I legit needed to take a minute after that twist hit me.
@@anotherjason I guess Junko's corpse being found intact in DR2 after it got flattened like a pancake in the first game wasn't a plot hole after all
@@nataliecoronado4206 I'm picturing a homunculus Nagito after DR2, and I'm scared.
So now that you know the truth about Kanai ward, it’s interesting to note that homunculus are incapable of dying. Meaning that all the ghost Yuma and Vivia have encountered throughout the city are not the current residents who are immortal, but the populace that was forcibly cannibalized out of nowhere. I’d want to haunt that city to if I died and my double took over. (Also throws into question if Yakous “soul” in ch4 was the REAL Yakou giving advice to feuding detectives, even if it wasn’t the Yakou we know.)
Well shamigami reap something too, so it hard to say what is a soul.
Hey Nico! Funny thing, Yuma actually does point out the blood when finding the victim of the 3rd case, noting that its strange (its in the voiceover when he first discovered the body), however its pretty easy to overlook, especially because Kodaka makes sure we never see normal human blood (everyone died in the prologue by immolation)
Interestingly, it seemed like Sachi had some knowledge of what had happened with the homunculi, which means he may have known he was one. THAT would have been a weird conversation...
I also wonder if Yomi knew the truth about his nature, and part of the reason he grew so obsessed with Kanai Ward was because he was essentially trapped there.
Now that we finally got to the biggest plot twist in this game, lemme talk about the first 4 detectives that got burned to death in the prologue.
So the reason why they chose to burn the bodies in the story was because if Zilch just kill them normally(stabbing them in their sleep for example), their blood would be shown as red instead of pink, since the detectives(except Zilch) are clearly humans, not homunculus... And blood being red would ruin the pink blood reveal much early... That's why they had their bodies burnt, so no blood would be shed.
That and for Zilch's plan to work by using Aphex's body to fake his death.
There is red blood on the door lock but that's the only time you see red blood outside of the mystery labyrinth, and apparently Desuhiko's art for h*rny scenes.
It's incredibly easy to miss and not acknowledge. Especially when most of the scenes that SHOULD be red blood, are artistically altered for the visual effects of the mystery labyrinth
Actually, hold on a second. PLENTY of sunlight was getting into the Amaterasu express (thanks to the windows), right? Why didn't Zilch have that allergic reaction to it?
@@DLxxx A decent point but don't worry, the game will provide a way that allows a homunculus to be in the sun. Since the train was made by Amaterasu Corp its windows could also have tinting and other protections as well just in case.
@@Hillwisekid But if no one _knew_ that they were humunculi, why would Amaterasu bother designing the windows to block out UV rays? Especially since no one was allowed to exit Kanai Ward and it was isolated from the rest of the world.
Wouldn't it be less trouble to just make sure no one from the city got onto the Amaterasu Express to begin with? Did Makoto anticipate Yomi planting someone on the train? I find that difficult to believe, but I suppose it's not impossible.
The colour of the blood actually gets brought up multiple times, Desuhiko freaks out when he sees the blood in the theatre club asking if its real. And Yuma's blood has always been red in the Mystery Laberynths despite blood being pink everywhere else.
So yeah, there have actually been plenty of call outs that the blood is not supposed to be pink.
I can still remember getting to the plot twist that the meat buns were made of human meat myself because a few minutes later my parents came home with my favorite meal and I did not have heart to tell them why I didn't want to eat it.
I literally called it on my initial playthough as soon as I saw the weird, slightly creepy meatbun street cart vendor.
and then 20+ hours later "OH MY GOD NO I WAS RIGHT"
It felt like there was something weird about it to me. I had Yuma try a meat bun in... Chapter 1, I think, and he didn't really see why everyone else loved them so much. I think he might've also mentioned they didn't exactly taste good. That started raising my suspicions. The fact they kept coming up, even in random NPC dialogue raised them even more. Still, I never would've thought they'd be made out of human flesh.
The fact that I played SMT4 at the same time as rain code didn't really help my case since it was 2 diffrent games with a ppl being eaten twist. At least in rain code's case the twist wasn't AS fucked up. Yes SMT4 made it way worse.
literally eating a meat bun during this, they taste so good tho
@@SilentEchoKattHOW THE FUCK COULD IT BE WORSE THAN LITERALLY TURNING DEAD PEOPLE INTO DUMPLINGS?!
Ah yes... Makoto kagutsuchi forte, being able to clean all the mess from defective homunculi (bones and clothes), cleaning all the blood stain and create a machine that create rain clouds to cover Kanai Ward, within one week. Damn makoto, you do work fast huh...
What's actually rather sad when you think about it, is that the Yakou we know died to avenge a woman he never actually met. The real Yakou's wife was killed before the homunculus event happened, so our chief never knew her. He gave his life for it and because of his immortal homunculus body, he'll never see the woman he thought he loved in the afterlife.
At the very least, human Yakou who was killed during the blank week got reunited with his wife in the afterlife
@@Nebularban True, still doesn't change the tragedy of Homunculus Yakou's fate. The chief was right, "The truth is cruel."
@@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 Thinking about it. It’s double sad cause that mean original Yakou died before he can get his revenge for the death of his wife.
@@JETDriver1011 Indeed. What's also sad when you think about how EVERY original citizen was killed and eaten. That means the children as well, even the little boy who begged Yuma to save his dad was a Homunculus.
I like to think Homunculus Yakou was the one that killed the original Dr Huesca in the video recording, so if anything he got to avenge his wife twice.
So not only did we see Yuma's blood at the very start of the game with the door lock in the nursery room, but countless times when Shinigami took her scythe to his neck.
What's even funnier, Desuhiko ALSO kind of hinted towards the pink blood. He had a bleedy nose from time to time, and his blood was red. He also said "And the blood! What's with the blood?!" during chapter 2 when Karen died and he saw her corpse.
It goes even further than that however. Remember how at the start of the game the other Master Detectives died and were pretty much burned to death? Yeah, they didn't leave a single trace of blood behind. Because if they did, the blood would be red.
Kodaka you son of a bitch-
Y’know, this twist really puts a new perspective on chapter 0’s mystery. When you think about it, all the master detectives died via fire, and *left no blood behind*, as it would’ve given away this twist so much earlier. However, one seed still survived in the fact that Yuma’s blood was red on the latch when he cut himself.
The best part is that you should have noticed that there was a contradiction when it came to blood. Back in episode 2 Yuma noticed what would later be his own blood when he cut himself and you commented that the blood was red. All the true detectives died by being burnt so you didn't have much to compare it to.
However, when you got to the rain man you saw lots of pink blood and you just assumed it was back to "normal". You got Kodaka!
Wait, with the meat bun twist does that mean that Yuma's cooking wasn't actual that bad? Yakou was just utterly disgusted by it because they could only really enjoy the taste of the meat buns?
Nah, Halara tells Yuma he can't cook for crap.
Something tells me that Halara didn't even try to taste it, not without a cost at least. But knowing everyone, nobody can afford to pay her to actually taste the food.
Nah, Yuma is just a horrible cook that can make it look good but taste horrible.
Yeah, that's what I thought too. There's also the noodle stand guy who was like "I was confident about the flavor, but nobody was willing to try it, then I tried copying those meat buns (presumably assuming it was animal meat at the time), but was still losing customers, until, after some self-reflection and research, I've gotten it to where it's now" (not a literal quote, but I'm mostly using his words, check Ep 21 at around 14:48 to see the exact thing). This certainly doesn't have any disturbing implications x)
@@MrCh0oMakoto: holy crap, someone not only figured it out but also how to source human flesh into Kanai Ward... wtf...
Niko going to use Enoshima Junko's potrait as thumbnail in the next episode.
I mean, it is always her.
She will be there in V4 i know it 😂😂
I mean at this point we surely know who is Makoto and the face behind his---"her" mask.
Its Junko again
Also, with the Pink Blood Twist. This explains why Fake Zilch killed the Master Detectives via immolation in Chapter 0. If the bodies were heavily burned, there’s no way you’d notice their blood color because their corpses wouldn’t be bleeding!
The Mystery phantom laughing when Yuma discovered the whole thing about the blood, it was actually Kodaka laughing at us the whole time.
Everyone typing up how the pink blood twist could mean the danganronpa characters were homunculi. I myself had a theory that out of all the Mainline games, the DRV3 cast is the most likely to be homunculi. Team Danganronpa would be able to host realistic killing games with a relative lack of repercussions. Though I’ve noticed two instances of the blood being red. Warning for V3 spoilers!
1. During Shuichi’s flashback in Chapter 1, the culprit from a case he worked from had red blood vessels in his eyes. Though this could be explained as an extra being hired for the show, or more simply as the work of a flashback light.
2. When they find Ryoma’s corpse, Shuichi’s narration states that the water was “red” with blood. However, this was a product of the english localization. In the original Japanese version, he instead states that the water is “stained” with blood, with no mention of the blood’s color
Hmm…Speaking of which, I recall something [V3’s MASTERMIND] said during that game’s final class trial: “Your immaterial existence is a fabrication, independent of your actual *flesh and blood*.” If this is true, then maybe the participants of that last killing game were originally human before the game began?
Dr Huesca: We tried to create homunculi, but failed.
Edward Elric: Oh! I know that one.
We can't forget what happened with Mommy.
I’m hoping that in the next game, Shinigami takes inspiration from what Yuma said about how maybe her haunting him is making him see pink blood. It could give an excuse to keep using pink blood in the future.
Actually Nico, this was a clever little way that was told way back in Chapter 2. When Yuma first discovered the first Nail Man victims and ask Shinigami if this was natural, Shinigami told him that it was fine. He actually thought that it was one of the side-effects of making a deal with Shinigami, so that's why he never questioned it.
Now I'm currious as to why there was pink blood surrounding Halara, Desuhiko, Fubuki, and Vivia's remains. They weren't homunculi, so why wasn't their blood red? I hope this gets addressed at some point. I'm surprised that no one else has brought it up.
I’m pretty sure that confirms those corpses are not theirs, I don’t believe for a second that they actually died.
@@maxwell8540 Is it out of the question that the Amaterasu Express had windows designed to block out UV rays? Which, as Makoto himself stated, is specifically what homonculi are weak to.
@@maxwell8540 I assume you haven't finished the game yet so here some hint who know the secret beside makoto: Who in charge of project humonculus? who is the boss of fake hitman zilch? Does this person work with the one who in charge with the project? The homunculi remain the memory from their original right?
Answer these questions and the picture should be clear
it seems like all of the obstacles here are related to the previous cases: the clocktower, the school, the flood etc.
While the bloody twist was so good that I understand why everyone wants to comment on it, I want to bring attention to another point: the solution key moment.
Throught the whole game we have seem Yuma's relanshionship with the truth be represented with these moments. In chapter 0 we had Yuma be fully confused, not understanding and even be frightened by it. In 1, Yuma was still fearful, but a bit more willing to tag along. In 2, Yuma was very afraid of it and uncertain of it, as he now knew for sure that by taking the blade more would die by his hand...yet his delusions of hero allowed him to do so.
Yet, starting on 3 he began to change. There he was a bit uncertain to take it, and a bit embarassed too, but not scared...he had accepted his role. Then, in 4 while he was shaken over it all...he accepted it fully. And now we culminate on the end where Yuma doesnt stutter, doesnt flinch or gets carried away...he accepts it ready and done. After all why should he react in any special way? A tech worker wouldnt flinch when turning the computer on, a lawyer wouldnt flinch by just grabbing his case papers. He is a detective, the truth is his goal and his deductions, the solution blade, is his tool
Ngl, Makoto was killing it with that Jojo pose at the end there
So now we have to fear the possibility that EVERYBODY with pink blood in any Spike Chunsoft game is a homunculus! REALLY worrying for all the Danganronpa fans. I mean, can you imagine Shuichi's reaction to an undead homunculus Kaede?
???: Shu…ichi.
Shuichi:… Why? Why are you here, Kaede?!
Kaede: Shu…ichi. You must…save…everyone.
Shuichi: How? Only Maki, Himiko, and I survived!
Kaede: We…are…alive. Please…Shuichi…save us.
I knew from the moment I saw pink blood I knew something was wrong. After seeing Yumas blood being red in the train, and in the chapter 1 mystery labyrinth blood splatters being red, after seeing pink blood already from the corpses. "Games like these usually NEVER leave inconstant details like that" was what I thought in my head.
they literally do, danganronpa 1 had red blood whenever it dried, so i just thought they tried to represent dried blood. Kodaka has made this "mistake" before, so i didnt think much about it.
Now that we have gotten to this reveal, I would officially like to thank Past Nico from episode 7 of this playthrough, who talked himself out of questioning why Yuma's blood was red when he cut his hand in Chapter 0's Case. Thanks Past Nico.
Speaking of Case 0, none of the corpses showed blood in that case. They all died from burning to death. It was a deliberate move to keep this reveal as hidden as possible.
This episode filled me with so much....despair.
Also, maybe there's hope for Yuma's cooking ability, after all!
The blood twist was actually sort of teased at the beginning of the game. One of the Solution Keys for the Massacre on the Amaterasu Express is that there was blood on the door handle for the infirmary in car "5". If you recall, it ended up being Yuma's blood. He'd cut himself while breaking open the window to open the door in car 1's infirmary. His blood, of course, was red. I think you might've even mentioned how you were glad we weren't getting pepto blood in this game.
Fun fact about the taste of human flesh, a few cannibals were interviewed about it and they describe it as having a taste more like pork with the tastiest part being the palm of the hand. Makes sense since meat buns are usually filled with pork.
And now, the million dollar question:
If Fubuki has/is a homonculus and revives with a defective, zombified brain, will anyone be able to tell?
Yes, they would notice that Fubuki had suddenly become smarter
the pink blood twist is probably the most clever kodaka plot twist he's ever done. It really plays with and takes advantage of the playerbase and fans of his game, and i absolutely love how it was foreshadowed in the first chapter.
Fake Yuma: Yes, homunculi have pink blood
All Danganronpa Characters: Dammit! My life wasn't already filled with enough disgrace?!
The implications behind the Blank Week are even more harrowing when you consider what must have happened to babies. During that week period, babies who did get their blood drawn had homunculi made, but these would have been baby homunculi and thus could not possibly have fended for themselves and likely starved to death. The babies that did not get their blood drawn were likely eaten by fully grown homunculi. Also consider what must have happened to the parent homunculi when they came to their senses. Their babies were just gone, no rhyme or reason given, and they were left to mourn with no answers. Also consider what happens to pregnant women who become homunculi? Would that also produce a Homunculi who was pregnant? Can homunculi reproduce? Can they reproduce with humans or does it have to be another homunculi? If the homunculi gives birth, does that baby also become a homunculi or an actual person? And if the reality is they can't get pregnant, then all the women who were pregnant are left to believe they just all collectively lost their pregnancies during that week. The mental anguish felt by these mothers and fathers had to be incalculable, some were probably driven to suicide for it. All that said, I would not blame Kodaka if never bothered to elaborate on these implications given that any answers he does give will likely only open an even LARGER series of horrible implications.
Holy shit....i didn't expected things to go even further bad than it already was but this is defenetly worse.
Well morbid curiosity be damned.
I believe the trope term 'fridge horror' correctly covers the unspoken, unimaginable result of the Blank Week Mystery. Personally, my brain stopped at 'cloned citizens ate their human selves,' because that was the limit of my willpower.
@@vedwalker3974you know this brings me back to the side quest mentioning "children disappearing being a common thing". I guess they could have been fodder meat buns if there weren't that many on stock 😢
Dude, you're overthinking this.
@@Vic_Trip dear lord, can we not populate that theory? Please?
Uchikoshi making Nirvana Initiative: I'm going to make a twist solely for the viewer to needlessly complicate this mystery, even if I have to make several contrivances along the way. It will be big and extravagant even though it means incredibly little after the reveal.
Kodaka making Raincode: I'm going to make a twist solely for the viewer because I want to troll a specific but sizable subset of them in a very meta way. It won't be meaningful in any way, but that's okay because I am doing this primarily to fuck with them specifically. God it will be so beautiful.
I guess technically here it's also a twist for Yuma, but the story is functionally completely identical if you remove it. The twist is literally just for Danganronpa fans lmao
At least Rain Code mystery doesn't revolve around the pink blood unlike Nirvana Initiative twist where it sacrifices everything in the story to fool the players, and nobody in the story is even affected by it.
Do you remember the Prologue? Massacre on the Amaterasu Express? Do you remember what the final piece of evidence was that proved that Car 1 and 5 were the same car? Yuma cut his finger on a piece of glass in the window and left a bloodstain on the lock. The blood on that lock was red. We just didn't think much of it at the time because it was the first bloodstain we saw in the game, and the next one wasn't for a few hours later during the Nail Man scene in Chapter 1.
An excellent example of extremely subtle hints and foreshadowing, which you're unlikely to notice until you experience a second playthrough~
Nico’s the EXACT youtuber I’ve been wait for to get to this point, as he’s one of if not the biggest Kodaka game fans I follow.
Kadoka knew how iconic the danganronpa blood was and decided to use it to deceive us all. And it went all according to demon death god plan
I like how you can hear a remix of the main theme in the first room of the labyrinth, the one designed to resemble Kanai Ward itself.
53:37 Nico pretty much had word for word the same reaction I did! XD
And thats why I went into this game knowing it was a separate universe lol! I had my suspicions the instant i saw the red blood stain on the train lock...
Oh... p.s. why do you think all the detectives in chapter 0 died by fire? They thought this through IMMENSELY! Lol...
You know, with all the Resident Evil references in this game I wonder if Dr. Huesca is meant to be a reference because Huesca kinda sounds like Wesker.
What is Amatarasu's best selling product in Kanai Ward?
Robot Umbrellas.
God damn. Now THAT is how you pull of a meta twist. What an amazing way to play on player speculation.
Yuma cut himself in chapter 0 and it was a valuable piece of evidence.
What's even better is that in the first ever case, everyone was burned to death to hide the blood color. The only hint you're given is when yuma cuts his thumb on the glass on the train. It's such a fantastic twist
It was in our face the whole time, it was always there but we never believed it
I really like how this case builds off the entire game before it. In every case we secretly learn a detail that is used in this one. I think that in the past games they were more about a huge plot twist that explains the game. then something slowly being built to make a case as werid as this work.
You know what I think Yuma was actually a good cook, but the thing is that the first person he cooked for was cheif Yako and he didn't like the food and thought it was disgusting with the knowledge we have now i think he didn't like it was because it wasn't human flesh and was just normal food.
Aside from the blood thing, it’s so cool that you go through all the locations from the other crimes in this case from the clock tower to the classrooms to the flooded district and the bombs
The real question is whether the next game in the Master Detective Archives series (assuming there is one) will finally answer the question of what happened to the Danganronpa V3 survivors.
I would absolutely love it if the two series crossed paths at some point. Imagine if we got a Shuichi + Yuma teamup!
That’d truly be the dream team right there
If the games are a shared universe that is.
I love from both a Story stand point and a meta level the Pink blood twist makes sense.
"It's just a art style thing" is just a convenient lie that we told ourselves just like the Homunculus in game we're told it's normal.
Though it does mean if there was ever sequel to this game they would have to use red blood.
DRV3 spoilers:
So that's how the people of the outside world thought it's OKAY to use their homunculus for the DR Ultimate Real Fiction.
didn't expect the city would be the leading brand of pepto bismol production
and this was foreshadowed on how Desuhiko's nosebleed is red, and how the master detectives corpses are burned with no bleeding
The fact that Shinigami never needed to vomit out the solution keys is the real twist.
so a kind of funny but dumb idea I just had is that with the revelation of the pink blood, all the characters in Danganronpa are actually Homunculi, which is why they all had pink blood in that story, especially with what we see at the start of V3 when everyone is gathering together
Makes me question, if Homunculi bleed pink, does that mean Team Danganronpa were using Homunculi all this time?
I’d buy it, that game was the most likely to take advantage of homunculi technology
So after the pink blood plot twist, you asked if Yuma never cut himself before and that’s my favorite part of this plot twist Yuma DID cut himself. Back on the Amaterasu Express Yuma cut himself opening the door and his crimson blood being on the lock was a big part in solving the switching train mystery. God BLESS these ingenious bastards
I like how this time when Shinigami asked Yuma if he's ready to give his life for the truth, she made sure to look at him and see if he's REALLY ready for what's about to go down.
Nico's reaction to the blood twist was the moment I was looking forward to the most in this game.
They really did point it out better during one of Yuma's chapter intro monologues. Where he outright says that the blood is strangely colored.
2 times before when nico notice yuma red blood on the door on the trian and the pink blood of the first victim in the clock tower , he even made a joke about the 2 of them without realizing how much he future guess this case , as someone who finish the game before he begin , i feel so uurrrrggghhhhhh. Now , i can finally talk about it !!!
When I was playing through the Chapter 4 Mystery Labryinth I thought it was strange that blood in it was red, whenever Shinigami used the scythe on Yuma. So when I got to the reveal in the next chapter of the pink blood being a homunculus thing I just burst into laughter.
