- This is a freshly restored MG 1100 found on Bring-A-Trailer last year. It has been stripped and painted, and a new interior installed. The door panels were made to the original design, but using a modern Houndstooth cloth. The seats are as original with grey piping and we used matching grey carpet and floor mats. There are modern three point retractor seat belts, front and rear. The road wheels are the more attractive Austin America versions with new hubcaps, still being fabricated in England on original equipment. The steering wheel is also the more attractive Austin America version, using the center horn push/MG emblem from an MG Midget. Of course the mechanical systems of the car have all been brought up to snuff as well.
The new owner had one of these when she was young, and now as retired lawyer she is ready to revisit some pleasant memories and share them with her whole family.
Enjoy!
It's even got a floor-mounted headlight dipping button - I haven't seen one of those for years! Where has the lovely chrome-plated ashtray gone from the rear though - as a child I used to love seeing how much paper I could stuff in there. It's a MK1 (despite the Mk2 wheels) so it must be 50 years old - what a fantastic restoration!
beautifully restored and presented
My father also had a red one of these in 1965. He used it to make house calls as a general practitioner in England. It was a good car for its time.
None of your Chinese crap here. A beautiful example of a rare classic. I love what you've done to the interior too, those seats look awesome, but no dirty shoes on those carpets.
Yes, sold new in USA. James Caan drove a red one in the 1965 film Red Line 7000.
Looks like the one I drove after high school. Way more fun than Dad's Imperial. I spent a lot of time underneath it, though, replacing those rubber U-jointed front axles.
Its had an alternator fitted, but retains the dynamo regulator, this must have been left for show.
Super restoration. I love the colour and the upholstery looks top notch. Love the houndstooth door panels. I'm sure the new owner will be very proud of this car.
I had a black one. It's exceptionally stiff structure gave it nimble handling, while the amount of interior space was little short of magical for a car only 12 feet long.
My parents owned one of these and I remember being driven to and from school in it. It is basically a rebadged Austin 1100 (ADO16). The hydrolastic suspension on these cars were amazingly good.
I have the exact same car is that the 1975 but the crank separated from the fly wheel and I could not get parts to fix it and my dad jumped the car
Well I remember the green Matchbox model of this. With the dog sitting in the back seat.
My Mum has a blue one. I learnt to drive on it . They were tough little cars
👍👍
a rare car anywhere, i would of thought,
WONDERFUL RESTORATION.....BEAUTIFULLY DONE.
Basically,a stretched Mini
I passed my U.K. driving test in my dads 1970 Austin 1300 they were ahead of the time now most cars have the same layout
I had a 1966, same color. I got it in 1971 in Wash DC, and sold it in Ohio. I think it began rusting on the trip over from the UK. It was a very enjoyable car to drive and I repaired the engine myself, doing a valve job and balancing the twin carbs. But reliable it was not. Probably because of its previous ownership.
Very pretty.
My oldest sister had one in the mid 70s(a 1965 in this same color), but I recall it had rubber floor mats and the interior was all black, even the seat piping. I was only 8 or 9 at the time so I don't recall everything about it entirely, but I remember it was a pain in the butt and my sister got rid of it after a few months.
Lovely in this colour! You got yourself a REAL classic there!
What a beauty!!!
Had a smoke grey one of these back in the day; I straight swapped my convertible Morris Minor for it!!! those were the days hey; when the former and latter could be bought for under £100, or not much over.
Stunning. I so so want one or the Vanden Plas to go alongside my 72 V12 E-Type Roadster.
We have a club member in HI who wants to sell his restored VDP. If you're interested, let me know.
I have a 66 unrestored that's in fantastic shape, in Arizona.
First car i bought back in 1971 i was 16 passed my test in it 1972 never loosed me down cracking car
Beautiful little car, I loved them in the 60s.So nice to see in these days of uniformity and wind tunnels.
I always thought of these as a posher big brother of the mini .
Precioso yo tengo uno igual, diferente color pero el mismo
Very good restoration . Left hand drive is rare.
I had an MG 1100 IN St Pete FL and had to abandon it because of my new wife. Now I have no wife and no car!
It's OK don't lose your health 👍

@@alfiefisher4642 Repair pipe kit from Liquid Levers company. Use this on my Vanden Plas Princess 1300, worked fine.
Huh? Those things were exported to the states?!
