So refreshing to see a review/comparison that is actually worthwhile watching/listening to. Most other reviews are filled with people that love to hear their own voice and offer no useful information whatsoever. When they play it is only one method of playing with no variation and usually not well done. You did it the way it is supposed to be done. Useful information at the beginning and end that was pertinent to the review. Both guitars were strung with the same type and gauge of strings which put them on an equal footing (most don't do this). Your playing offered a great platform to judge the instruments by, which included strumming, finger picking, etc. It really gave everyone a useful review of the instruments. Good on you!

Wow, that actually somewhat surprised me. Guitar A I figured had to be the Yamaha just due to the Spruce top vs Cedar on the Seagull. But, low and behold, the Seagull is soooo well made, even with the Cedar top, while it was warm, it's highs we're more defined and shimmering than the Yamaha. Impressive. I love me some Seagull!

I actually own both the Seagull S6L and the Yamaha FG720SL (similar to your 700MS), and this is a very accurate comparison. They each have distinct sounds and I could tell which one you played without seeing it. I like your format here. 👍
My S6 has the most lovely and resonant mid and treble, but I'm always a little frustrated by the lower end not ringing out. My 720S has a fuller bass to balance it out, and a very crisp and even sound across all strings, but as you reach mid and treble the tone doesn't have so much resonance. I prefer to sing with the S6, and do more instrumental work with the 720S. Would suggest either to a new player - both are delightful. Also, for all the southpaws out there: both come in purpose-built left handed models.

Yamaha has better trebble and sounds better in min with other band instruments, the seagull has way clearer mids, so is better for solos. It would be nice to compare how both guitrs sound with a singing voice. Good review

I love my old shorter scale length S6. Still keeping me happy and at such a great price. Seagull sounded more articulate. But at three times the price, it's not (to me) three times better, maybe one and a half. So on sound the Seagull can be said to win, though the Yamaha is still a very good guitar, at the price. So on value for money, the Yam. You pays your money and makes your choice.
I have the Yamaha, bought used online, with hard case, for £100 USD 130). Strangely, it's all solid, whatever the specs say.
Love your videos, and your playing.which make exact, intelligent, useful comparisons.

Thanks so much for this video as I'm looking to get my first acoustic after playing classical. I knew immediately which guitar was which. Tried a Seagull out recently. It's pretty recognisible. The Seagull was recommended to me by another guitarist, so I went to a shop to give it a try. Was surprised by how bright it is and if you've looking for bright this is for you. If you want to cut through with highs. Thing is, I really like the Yamaha. :D Keep going back to listen and I kept chosing the Yahama. It has a warm middle range, more resonance and it sounds a bit vintage, a bit hazy. Notes ring over each other and blend in beautifully. Seems like a better singer songwriter choice but it's all down to what you want to do with your playing and your voice, if you also sing. But the more I listen, I like both. :D

I’m new to the acoustic guitar world and after a bit of research I found that the seagull s6 is highly praised for its price point, so I went ahead and ordered one. And as usual, while waiting on a order to arrive I do even more research, which is how I came across this video. While listening to the blind test I thought the s6 was guitar b based on what people were describing it’s sound as. And I instantly thought dang it guitar A sounds so much better. So I was very happy to find out the seagull was actually guitar A!

Spruce v cedar… the s6 is twice the price. Both are excellent choices. I have owned both. The cedar top is much softer and susceptible to bruising/ dings over time. This matte finished solid spruce Yamaha is remarkably light, bright and LOUD. Best sub 250 currently on the market. The early Cort Earth 100 made in Korea model beats them both but they aren’t available anymore and the new offerings from china aren’t as good. The Yamaha is better for busking/ campfire/ jamming strumming and flat picking with others. It cuts through the mix better. The S6 is warmer with more bass and midrangey, and is more responsive for light finger style. It compresses with hard strumming and loses some balance and doesn’t keep up as well jamming with the band. The Fg700ms Yamaha will simply clobber an S6 with sheer volume, if that is what you are going after. It can be harsh though with bright strings. The S6 works better with bright elixir bronze strings in my ears, where the Yamaha needs warmer phosphor bronze or poly elixirs to tone it down. The neck feel on the Seagull is thicker, more stable and slightly wider at the nut and the frets are fatter. Both are excellent guitars in their respective price categories, with the edge for me being the Yamaha at half the price. Great vid. Two very solid contenders to compare. If price isn’t the object, I’d say those who lightly strum or fingerpick and play around the house will prefer the fuller sounding S6. If you’re busking, or jamming around unplugged at campfires, the Yamaha will do a better job at getting everyone’s attention.

Hey, what do you think in overall quality build and neck size?
I currently beginner and own FG800M yamaha with 43mm width neck and want to buy me a christmas present and take my second guitar.
    - Taylor 114ce, Taylor 214ce (neck width 42.8mm)
    - Taylor 314ce, Used (neck width 44.5mm)
    - Seagull Artist Mosaic (neck width 43mm)
    - Seagull Maritime sws (neck width 43mm)
So far I went to the shop and tryed only taylors. I would say, the build quality is really another level from yamaha. But I'm facing a bit issue with 42.8mm neck. My fingers are no so tight for fingerstyle on 7+ Frets. Then taylor 314 was a bit to much to me, but I think I would get used to it with 1 time.
Seagull... Based on all info, reviews and sound demo's on YT - its always amazing. And the neck is somewhere between Yamaha and Taylor 314+ Series.
Could you please tell me more about build quality and overall feeling comapred to tailor? Maybe you tried another seagulls like artist? And do you think their gutars are newbie friendly? Thanks for attention :)
