Seagull!! I have played both & still love the sound & play of the seagull. But OMG I wish I could play like you!! Wow in my dreams!
Thanks for sharing your experience 👍
So refreshing to see a review/comparison that is actually worthwhile watching/listening to. Most other reviews are filled with people that love to hear their own voice and offer no useful information whatsoever. When they play it is only one method of playing with no variation and usually not well done. You did it the way it is supposed to be done. Useful information at the beginning and end that was pertinent to the review. Both guitars were strung with the same type and gauge of strings which put them on an equal footing (most don't do this). Your playing offered a great platform to judge the instruments by, which included strumming, finger picking, etc. It really gave everyone a useful review of the instruments. Good on you!
thanks for the very nice feedback on this guitar comparison video.
Wow, that actually somewhat surprised me. Guitar A I figured had to be the Yamaha just due to the Spruce top vs Cedar on the Seagull. But, low and behold, the Seagull is soooo well made, even with the Cedar top, while it was warm, it's highs we're more defined and shimmering than the Yamaha. Impressive. I love me some Seagull!
Yeah, Seagull is bang for the buck!
I actually own both the Seagull S6L and the Yamaha FG720SL (similar to your 700MS), and this is a very accurate comparison. They each have distinct sounds and I could tell which one you played without seeing it. I like your format here. 👍
My S6 has the most lovely and resonant mid and treble, but I'm always a little frustrated by the lower end not ringing out. My 720S has a fuller bass to balance it out, and a very crisp and even sound across all strings, but as you reach mid and treble the tone doesn't have so much resonance. I prefer to sing with the S6, and do more instrumental work with the 720S. Would suggest either to a new player - both are delightful. Also, for all the southpaws out there: both come in purpose-built left handed models.
thanks for sharing your experience on similar guitars.
Yamaha has better trebble and sounds better in min with other band instruments, the seagull has way clearer mids, so is better for solos. It would be nice to compare how both guitrs sound with a singing voice. Good review
Thanks for sharing
I have been compare these 2 to buy one for me. Thanks for the video, now I definitely want S6
Good luck on your guitar purchase. Thanks too for watching.
Thank you for your videos. :)
I guessed it right. Just waiting for my seagull s6 to be delivered. I love its sound.
Congrats on your new guitar. Enjoy!
I just bought one... the action is very playable! I didn't need to adjust/set up. u won't be disappointed!
@@kckong3 that's great. Congrats!
The blind test is a brilliant idea. Seagull it is for me :) so clear and crisp. With Yamaha I found the sound lingers a lot and not in a good way.
Thanks for sharing!
I love my old shorter scale length S6. Still keeping me happy and at such a great price. It’s over 20 years old… we recently put it up against a load of much more expensive acoustics and we found you had to be spending 3 times the seagull money to better it on sound. Love it to bits!!! Nice channel too 👍
nice one! thanks.
@@Edwin-E all the best with the channel 👍
@@TheBluesBox cheers!
That is a wonderful comparison you did, wish more people did the same. Thanks so much BTW I like the seagull a tad better both are nice though for sure
Thanks for a very nice comment and for sharing your thoughts about this comparison.
Thanks for doing the blind tests first!
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Seagull sounded more articulate. But at three times the price, it's not (to me) three times better, maybe one and a half. So on sound the Seagull can be said to win, though the Yamaha is still a very good guitar, at the price. So on value for money, the Yam. You pays your money and makes your choice.
I have the Yamaha, bought used online, with hard case, for £100 USD 130). Strangely, it's all solid, whatever the specs say.
Love your videos, and your playing.which make exact, intelligent, useful comparisons.
Thanks for informative comment and sharing your experience.
Both sound equally good in their own way
Indeed! thanks for watching.
B sounded better to me. More high end articulation without sacrificing the lower frequencies.

Thanks so much for this video as I'm looking to get my first acoustic after playing classical. I knew immediately which guitar was which. Tried a Seagull out recently. It's pretty recognisible. The Seagull was recommended to me by another guitarist, so I went to a shop to give it a try. Was surprised by how bright it is and if you've looking for bright this is for you. If you want to cut through with highs. Thing is, I really like the Yamaha. :D Keep going back to listen and I kept chosing the Yahama. It has a warm middle range, more resonance and it sounds a bit vintage, a bit hazy. Notes ring over each other and blend in beautifully. Seems like a better singer songwriter choice but it's all down to what you want to do with your playing and your voice, if you also sing. But the more I listen, I like both. :D
thanks for sharing. Good luck on your new guitar!
Excellent demonstration ...
Many thanks!
Now this is the way to do a blind test! Don’t show us viewers the guitars until the end!
Salamat bro this helps alot which is which im gonna go
You're welcome. Good luck on your guitar purchase 👍
If you have a good ear, B is the winner!
Thanks for sharing
@@Edwin-E have you heard of Orangewood guitars or Walden Guitars?? Both great!
@@dan8221 I got a few demos of Walden guitars in this channel. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to play Orangewood.
Don't. B may sound better to your ear and that's great for you but don't play the 'good ear' game. It's all subjective and your 'ear' is no better or worse than anyone else.
just got an S6 for my nephew... spruce top though... great guitars... Edwin, love your channel... the blind test really lets me focus... although I did pick this one out on the first melody... the s6 is a much rounder tone
Thanks. Yeah, S6 is well made and great sounding guitar.
As a current owner of a Yamaha FG 700s, I was pretty sure I got which was which, correct and I did. I had an S6 back in the 90's and wish I still had it.
Thanks for sharing
For me, it's guitar B all the way!
thanks for sharing your opinion
I’m new to the acoustic guitar world and after a bit of research I found that the seagull s6 is highly praised for its price point, so I went ahead and ordered one. And as usual, while waiting on a order to arrive I do even more research, which is how I came across this video. While listening to the blind test I thought the s6 was guitar b based on what people were describing it’s sound as. And I instantly thought dang it guitar A sounds so much better. So I was very happy to find out the seagull was actually guitar A!
that's good for you. You like the tone of the guitar you ordered.
you wont be disappointed...LOVE my seagulls 6 & 12 .....terrific sound, very playable, visual appeal, good choice...
It's hard to say. B had a clearer trebble tone, but A sounded better in some ways. Over all, the Yamaha was just MAYBE a minescule better, but both were very good
thank you for sharing you observation in this guitar comparison
Spruce v cedar… the s6 is twice the price. Both are excellent choices. I have owned both. The cedar top is much softer and susceptible to bruising/ dings over time. This matte finished solid spruce Yamaha is remarkably light, bright and LOUD. Best sub 250 currently on the market. The early Cort Earth 100 made in Korea model beats them both but they aren’t available anymore and the new offerings from china aren’t as good. The Yamaha is better for busking/ campfire/ jamming strumming and flat picking with others. It cuts through the mix better. The S6 is warmer with more bass and midrangey, and is more responsive for light finger style. It compresses with hard strumming and loses some balance and doesn’t keep up as well jamming with the band. The Fg700ms Yamaha will simply clobber an S6 with sheer volume, if that is what you are going after. It can be harsh though with bright strings. The S6 works better with bright elixir bronze strings in my ears, where the Yamaha needs warmer phosphor bronze or poly elixirs to tone it down. The neck feel on the Seagull is thicker, more stable and slightly wider at the nut and the frets are fatter. Both are excellent guitars in their respective price categories, with the edge for me being the Yamaha at half the price. Great vid. Two very solid contenders to compare. If price isn’t the object, I’d say those who lightly strum or fingerpick and play around the house will prefer the fuller sounding S6. If you’re busking, or jamming around unplugged at campfires, the Yamaha will do a better job at getting everyone’s attention.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Very well explained 👍
Awsome brother.
Thank you! Cheers!
A for me!
thanks for choosing
I picked A in blind test, better low end, seagull is sweet

Hey, what do you think in overall quality build and neck size?
I currently beginner and own FG800M yamaha with 43mm width neck and want to buy me a christmas present and take my second guitar.
- Taylor 114ce, Taylor 214ce (neck width 42.8mm)
- Taylor 314ce, Used (neck width 44.5mm)
- Seagull Artist Mosaic (neck width 43mm)
- Seagull Maritime sws (neck width 43mm)
So far I went to the shop and tryed only taylors. I would say, the build quality is really another level from yamaha. But I'm facing a bit issue with 42.8mm neck. My fingers are no so tight for fingerstyle on 7+ Frets. Then taylor 314 was a bit to much to me, but I think I would get used to it with 1 time.
Seagull... Based on all info, reviews and sound demo's on YT - its always amazing. And the neck is somewhere between Yamaha and Taylor 314+ Series.
Could you please tell me more about build quality and overall feeling comapred to tailor? Maybe you tried another seagulls like artist? And do you think their gutars are newbie friendly? Thanks for attention :)
Seagull is well made and great sounding. Take note that most Seagull S6 guitars have wide necks.
I have owned a couple seagulls and I am guessing that the first is the Seagull and I am making my guess at 2:31
you know Seagull very well
I just took home an S6 on impulse & I must be only guy who looks at reviews AFTER buying LOL. I liked guitar A in the blind test 1st half & was hoping it'd be the S6 ... nervously keeping my fingers crossed hahaha. Looks like it wasn't a mistake with the impulse buy! btw, that looked like the graph from Audacity, right? Great A/B comparison!
That is a good impulse buy then. You can't go wrong with Seagull. Yes, I just screen capture the graph from Audacity. Thanks for watching.
Les 2 guitares sonnent bien mais j'ai une préférence pour la Seagull dont la sonorité me semble un peu plus chaleureuse... Merci pour cette comparaison :)
thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts
Well,, according to my AKG Studio head phones ... Guitar B sounds like a typical lower end acoustic with trebly highs and shallow bottom end .. Guitar A sounds full and pure with sparkly highs and a nice full bottom end .. 🤷♂️
thanks for sharing your observation.
I think yamaha sounds so much good..seagull is a good guitar but yamaha is more clear sounding and sounds like an expansive guitar...seagull also sounds good but not like yamaha..i have tried seagull s6 original and FG800...they both are so good..yamaha is more value for money guitar..
Thanks for sharing!
Wrong
Totally wrong
I guessed "A" to be the Seagull. I like the richness of it's tone. But then, I sorta cheated because I was sitting and strumming with my 20 something year old S6 Cedar while watching. Haha.
nice one! hehe
Both guitars are awesome and the songs you're playing sounds familiar to me, can you list down the song's title ?
Thanks. I did not play any particular song. I just played random chord progression.
Seagull hands down.
good choice
Both nmn maganda pero para sa akin iba impression ng guitar B, ung tunog ni guitarB parang nag i echoe mas clear at crisp ung high strings,,naalala ko tuloy ung 1st guitar nabili ko 1996 sa raon local lumanog sya pero madami napapabilib matatandang gitarista sa lugar nmin higit 1 dekada din kami nagkasama nasira sa kakahiram he he he ,,sa ngayon pangarap na lng magkaroon ng yamaha guitar can't afford high end guitar di nmn tau performer isang hamak na hobbiest lng,,sir ed utang ko sau ung finger style 'ikaw pa rin by ted ito' salamat at more power sir edwin!!
thanks for commenting and sharing your story. Enjoy playing guitar! And you're welcome.
I like your videos, but for this comparison both guitars should have the same tops. Cedar is a lot warmer and spruce a lot brighter.
thanks for the feedback
Hello sir I'm planning to buy acoustic guitar and i think Yamaha brand is the best but i dont know where to buy a legit one can u suggest sir thank you
better buy from Yamaha authorized dealer if you are unsure.
As an owner of a Yamaha FG750 I could recognize the tone in the blind test...but barely. That said, I could barely tell the difference between the two even with headphones on.
thanks for sharing you thoughts
For me it depends on your music taste but that both guitar are sounds greate for me. Sana po boss edwin mabigyan mo lang po ako kahit isa sa mga guitar mo happy na po ako hehe.
Thanks for watching and sharing. Pag umabot ako ng 100k sub, papa-raffle ulit ako ng guitar. :)
i have a fg800s clearly here seagull s6 is winner
thanks for sharing your opinion.
Nope
Yamaha for me.
Seagull sounded better when picking strings. Yamaha sounded better while strumming. Seagull has full sound, Yamaha has more mids cutting thru. Depending on what environment you play in will decide what you need. If your playing in a band with a bass player maybe the Yamaha would be better.
If your playing in coffee shops as a singer songwriter maybe the seagull would be better. Both sounded great!
nice comment. Thanks
Yamaha blows the Seagull away.It has much brighter mid tones.ok I'm biased. It's very much subjective I just like the Yammy more.
thanks for sharing
What’s the second song you played
Nothing in particular. I just played some chord progression.
For me guitar A is sweeter than guitar B
thanks for sharing your opinion
A? B?
Undecided? Thanks for watching.
iba yata pickguard nung seagull s6?
yes, iba na design ng bago.
@@Edwin-E ah ok..kasi meron na yan dito sa pinas price is 38k kaso iba ang pickguard kaya nagtaka ako..brandnew guitar pero new design pala yun na s6..anyways thnx!!!
Yes, pati headstock design nagbabago din.
Do not buy a seagull of gordin acoustic guitar, there throw aways once you need a neck reset your out of luck, the neck to body construction is very poor the neck is epoxy to the body so a neck reset is nearly impossible
Why do they say original, are there fakes?
see my other reply.
Yamahaaa
Nice
Wrong
Seagull sounded a lot fuller
thanks for sharing
lighter ang sound ni A c B rockstar tunog
thanks for sharing
S6 has the widest nut ever and the yamaha has the narrowest nut ever lol. Can't stand either.
oh, just wondering, what guitar suits you the best in terms of nut width.
Not really. Yamaha's nut is pretty standard, 43 mm.
You might be thinking of the FS series, their concert size version of this guitar. It has a narrower nut. The FG series has a bog standard nut width.
Seagull… Not close.
