  • Street running is still alive in Warsaw, Indiana! Unfortunately, this unusual and exciting sight is becoming less and less common across the United States as "street running" locations slowly disappear. In Warsaw, Norfolk Southern operates trains right down the middle of Hickory Street for a total distance of roughly 1,000 feet. As you can see from the first train in this video, Norfolk Southern runs trains through Warsaw at a relatively quick pace for street running!
The second train in this video features a northbound delivery of four brand new EMD F125 Metrolink locomotives (roster numbers 932 through 935).
This video was recorded on July 14, 2019, using a DJI Mavic Pro drone and a GoPro HERO Session camera.

Awesome! Do they still run about six trains a day?

I would say that sounds about right. Maybe a little more than 6 per day. It's not as busy as La Grange, KY. The north-south line is busier than the east-west line. There's a signal at the south end of Hickory Street that turns green about 5 to 10 minutes before southbounds come through town. Having that signal right at the end of Hickory Street is nice because it gives you enough time to get set up when a southbound is coming.

David Lauback this line sees around 10-12 trains on a good day, I live on the line and know it very well.
Your usual traffic will be, NS 12Q, NS 13Q, NS 143, NS 142, NS 19K, NS 18K, NS 200, NS I00 (Extras for NS 200) NS 60C, NS 61C (both are as needed), NS 174, NS 177, and a few other “as needed trains”

Thanks for all the info! It's nice to have someone who knows the line really well! The next time I visit I'll definitely reference that list of trains.

The first train was NS 60C, the second I’m not sure. Nice video.
Oh and for future reference, this is NS’s EX PRR Marion Branch

I would imagine that the second train was not a regularly scheduled train, but was just being used to deliver those new F125 Metrolink locomotives on the day I visited.

David Lauback yes, the second train is under the “as needed” category. It only makes runs when needed.

The Marion Branch is ex-NYC. The other track we see here in this video (which the trains are crossing) is ex-PRR.
