  • To chill or not to chill. we make 2 identical brews, the only difference is on is chilled quickly with an emersion chiller, and the other is slowly chilled in a hot cube.
    Becuse we make the same identical brew, we know why one would taste different.
    If you would like to make it to, this is my recipie, (freedom units in brackets, converted badly)

    Nice video. Immersion chilling just doesn't sit right with me for some reason so glad to hear no chill isn't terrible. How long was the wort in the cube for? Presumably you want to pitch the yeast as soon as it's cool enough?

      Immersion chillers aren't expensive, that's their strong point. Later when I make a new boil kettle, I plan on making a counterflow chiller, they look the easiest to clean, but a bit more expensive to buy, and they need a pump.
      The wort was in the cube for a month, maybe longer, I hear the can sit in the cube indefinitely.
      As for when to pitch the yeast, the yeast packet will indicate a temperature rage. To hot will kill the yeast.

    Sorry mate, what was your mash temp and final volume? Did you do a full hour boil with a single 20 min addition or just 20 mins total?

    I learnt from my bad choices that although penicillin is very cheap these days it’s worth its weight in gold. Cheers!

    I see another vid opportunity to see what the differences by syphoning off the clear liquid from the cube & mixing the second cube as per your std. method. I am curious as to the original/final gravity, clarity & taste differences.

    Those "late addition" hops are typically only beneficial for aroma. Having said that - I did NOT say there was NO bittering impact on the final beer...like you said..it's there - it's "detectible" and , depending on perspective, welcome or not.I did not catch if you actually had a preference? Chilled on not? Love the content - Cheers!

      Bit like coke vs Pepsi. Basically the same, one might be better than the other, but people will argue forever why one might be better.
      But to answer your question, the chill is slightly better.
      This is a 20min comparison, I have got 2 in cubes waiting for the chilled comparison, and another 2 where I just have the recipe planed. So good on you for subscribing, you'll find out when I upload

    Your boiling in a plastic bucket ?! Isn’t that bad?

    • @parrey1985
      @parrey1985  2 роки тому

      Not yet.
      I think the temperature is good for over 180°c.
      I think the death bucket got its name from brewers in the 80's getting electricuted, and I think the safety standards have improved since then.
