      Spyder Soup I believe Joe Dante, the director, is friends with Spielberg, who produced the show. He could have known they existed. Also, they used an old billboard for Warner Bros. animation that appeared on the DVD, which not only featured the Looney Tunes, but also included Hanna-Barbera, and 90's Spielberg/Warner Bros. cartoons, which yes, included the Warner siblings.

    Sheesh! Never knew _Back in Action_ was under a lot of pressure. If it reached its full potential it would have been as much of a classic as _Who Framed Roger Rabbit_.

    • @osmanyousif7849
      @osmanyousif7849 3 роки тому +1

      No, a classic would be the greatest crossover battle of the century:
      LOONEY TUNES (WB) VS SILLY SYMPHONIES (Disney aka Mickey Mouse cartoons): DAWN OF ACME, AGE OF DOOM, CIVIL WAR OF TOONS, The battle to conquer all of Hollywood.
      It can also be the perfect satire on how all studios care about money. I mean look at how controversial Disney and Warner Bros have gotten today, ruining mainstream franchises and how cancel culture ruins something that was at first good, now becoming a joke. Yeah, Hollywood's really just a joke and this would be a good way to show it.

      @@osmanyousif7849 You do raise a point about cancel culture. What I'm hoping for is the rise of indie studios to the point where there are allowed as better stewards of the classic IPs.

    I kinda liked Back in Action. It is sad that they didn't give Dante more freedom because he would make an AMAZING Looney Tunes movie,that guy is like a old definition of an "fanboy". It is also sad that Warner send this movie to die at the box office. However I did enjoy all the references and it was pretty loyal to the Looney Tunes style.

    • @hotwax9376
      @hotwax9376 5 років тому +8

      @GreenMushroom25 It wasn't intended to "die at the box office." (For that matter, I don't think any studio releases a film with the intention of it bombing.) They didn't want to put it up against the juggernaut that was Finding Nemo (which, ironically, is mentioned in the film), so they postponed the release, but that proved to be equally bad timing, as it was released the same time as Elf and The Cat in the Hat. I kind of wish they'd waited until the summer of 2004 to release it, because I don't think a whole lot of hugely successful family movies came out during that time; the only summer 2004 films I know of are Two Brothers and Fahrenheit 9/11.

      I agree. I remember watching "Space Jam" when I was a kid and enjoying it, but looking back at it now as a 21 year old man, I don't like it that much. The reason why is because I agree with what Warner Brothers animation veteran Chuck Jones said about the movie; I think that it's an insult to the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies material because had it been true to the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies material, then Bugs Bunny wouldn't have needed help from a legendary basketball star or any of the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies characters to help him beat the Monstars and he would have beaten them all by himself with his own clever brain and plus it wouldn't have taken him the whole movie to beat them either and Porky Pig wouldn't have said things such as "I think I just wet myself". In the original classic Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons made in the '40s, '50s and '60s, Bugs Bunny could beat the toughest enemies all by himself with his own clever brain in 6 minutes. He did it to The Gorillas Team in "Baseball Bugs", Crusher the Wrestler in "Bunny Hugged", Toro the Bull in "Bully for Bugs", Nasty Canasta in "Barbary Coast Bunny" etc. Therefore, like Chuck Jones, I think that "Space Jam" could have been a 6 minute Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoon where Bugs Bunny beats the Monstars all by himself with his own clever brain, just like he did to The Gorillas Team in "Baseball Bugs". I'm sorry but I don't like "Space Jam" that much and I think that it's an insult to the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies material. Watch "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Looney Tunes: Back In Action" instead.

    I have decided that I like Space Jam better than Looney Tunes Back in Action. First of all, I already had a guess for how any movie can mix Looney Tunes, Basketball and Aliens. This is apparently a combination of three of the most popular projects to watch on television: cartoons for children, sports for adults and science fiction for teenagers. Secondly, I like how this is the first project, movies or television, to star Lola Bunny. Now Bugs can finally have a legitimate romance partner. That, and Lola actually looked somewhat beautiful playing those games (cat purring). Lastly, I am actually conflicted on which live-action/animation hybrid I like more: Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Space Jam. On one hand, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is more popular, but on the other hand, Space Jam looks better for kids.
    My main problem with Looney Tunes Back in Action is that there is too much cruelty going on, especially in the beginning. Daffy fired just because he is less popular than Bugs Bunny? That is just not called for! Needless to say, I do not like Kate Hughton. She is despicable and unlikable. Not to mention the writing is pretty questionable. The Looney Tunes cameos are just fine, but the villain's motivation is just weak!

  • @hotwax9376

    I honestly don't get why so many animation purists hate on Space Jam. It helped introduce me to Looney Tunes when I was little; while I was already somewhat familiar with the characters, I never connected with them in the same way before the movie. I'm sure many other people born in the early 90s (like I was) would tell you the same thing if you asked. Space Jam may not have been a traditional Looney Tunes project, but IMO that's what makes it all the more enjoyable. Is it that terrible that it, along with Cartoon Network, helped introduce the Looney Tunes characters and shorts to a new generation? Because if anything, that is the film's greatest triumph.
    And Lola? I actually think she's a pretty decent character. While I agree with those who say she shouldn't simply be a love interest/female counterpart for Bugs, I think she would make an excellent standalone character. In fact, I hope that WB will someday make a standalone Lola cartoon short in the style of earlier Looney Tunes from the classic Termite Terrace era (one that looks and feels like Lola existed as a character during that time.)

  • @M567dk

    Being a guy that grew up in the 90's I was more fond of Space Jam then I was with Back in Action. No one gives Space Jam enough credit where it's due. I mean it was the 1st original Looney Tunes film without the major animators and the usage of Mel Blanc as majority of the voices. Sure they may have tried to get his son to do it, but I'm glad that they didn't.
    Not to knock off Noel Blanc, as he is his father's son, but there were much greater talent at the time of Space Jam and I'm glad that they recruited some of the best voices at the time to replicate their own flavor of the Looney Tunes and introduce them to a modern day audiences.
    This film was like a climax thanks to the Nike/McDonalds commercials of the 90's and the STeven Spielburg's animated shows of the 90's that replicated the moments of the Looney Tunes past. Also the NBA All-Stars of the 90's is a major contribute to the film.
    Had they made a better plot to the Back in Action film, then it would have fare better to the fans and the audiences.

    Kath Soucie has now voiced Lola outside of Space Jam in the New Looney Tunes, formally known as Wabbit. Her personality would be more like how it was in the Looney Tunes comic books where she was smart and competent but also looney and comedic. Although, instead of being a pizza delivery girl that delivered pizza to mythical creatures, ancient spirits, and deities, she would be known as "Lola, Auntie of Dragons" where she cared for dragons and would punish any who harmed or stole them.

    Funny thing about those 2 Looney Tunes movies is Space Jam have negative reviews but was a success, but Back in Action have positive reviews, but was a box office bomb.

    I really enjoyed watching all of these videos and this was an awesome finale!
    I also remember loving Space Jam as a kid. While I'll admit it's not really that good of a movie, I still have a soft spot for it and it does have some fun moments, plus a great soundtrack and animation.
    As for Looney Tunes Back in Action, I think it's decent. Admittedly, it's better executed with the portrayals of the Looney Tunes and the story isn't too bizarre, at least by Looney Tunes standards. Not the greatest, but I'd still watch this one from time to time.
    I can't wait for the the next Animation Lookback on (kind of) the best place for cartoons.

    I just hope that Space Jam 2 will feature CLASSIC Lola. And I mean Lola from DC comics where she's been completely fleshed out, not the original SJ where she was underdeveloped or New Looney Tunes show, where she's been turned into a psycho retarded blonde; the only time I did like it was in the Lola Croft short and that's how she should be presented.

      yeah, I kinda have to agree with you there. Billy West's Bugs Bunny sounds just too high, and it sounds more Billy than Bugs. Joe Alaskey does a decent Bugs, but I don't feel any of that special Mel Blanc-ness in Joe's Bugs. Jeff Bergman does a great Bugs though, it sounds almost exactly like Mel Blanc's Bugs Bunny. but nobody will ever come close to the original.

    About 10 years ago, I always thought Back In Action was better than Space Jam because it was much more faithful to the Looney Tunes. But years later, I realized that there has never been a movie experience like Space Jam. Combining these 3 elements that you mentioned shouldn't have worked, but they found a way to make it entertaining. I still like Back In Action and think it deserves more attention than its getting, but I think I like Space Jam a little more now for its unique way to stand out as a movie.
