I so wish that I could be in this show!! Seriously why couldn't this take off like Phantom did? This is my favorite musical obsession, fantastic visuals, great storyline, terrific and memorable songs. Starlight Express was and still is ahead of its time I suppose.
Nicholas Van Blarcum It sure took off here in Germany! It's been going non-stop in the theater that was built just for it since 1988, and there is no sign it will stop any time soon. I've been twice. It was amazing!
I AM SO GLAD WE HAVE TONY FOOTAGE!! What an incredible musical!! I love how they ended with Light at the End of the Tunnel. It is so fun and heartwarming to see that after ALL these years, the most iconic choreography is still the same. ❤️
Great song and great performance! I saw this in London in the 1990's and I cannot express how excited and pleased I was. An incredible visual and audio display. One of my all time favorites!!!
I think the reason why this didn't take off too well, is because this was a musical where people not only had to sing, they had to skate as well, and like with Cats which needed people who could sing and dance, not everyone can do both.
Maybe too late to bother responding but 1000's of performers have been doing that for more years than both you or I have been born... old school (1930's onwards) song and dance musicals ring any bells? And SE was a HUGE deal for many years, just not as much as Les Mis and others, in part I think because many people unfairly judged it sight unseen because it was about trains.
@Joshua Swain Starlight Express the musical was not very popular where I grew up.(although I knowof the El Debarge song) And I didn't grow up in the US. So yeah thanks for the tip asshole.

Nicholas Van Blarcum I agree SO much!!

Absolutely right, Starlight Express will continue for many many many years in Bochum!! ❤️
It ran for 18 years on the West End. Trevor Nunn made changes that ruined the Broadway production hence it closed.
@@mrphantomb I like to see it revived on Broadway in its original version.

Les Mis won this year. But I still love Starlight Express more.

Love it! I've never seen this before!

OH MY GOSH! I found a video of it on Broadway!
Starlight Express!Starlight Express!Starlight Express!Starlight Express! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS!.......starlight express
Greg Mowry as Rusty. I wish he did other shows on Broadway!
I think I was stunned the staging that remindes me you're in HSBC arena in buffalo
It's a pity this and Les Miserables had to come out in the same year; Starlight Express could have made it big in the States otherwise.
Story of my life
If not for Family Guy I wouldn't have known that Starlight Express is a musical.

Warum sieht der Rusty Schauspieler heute genauso aus wie damals? Sind das die selben Personen? Ich meine die deutsche Versionvon SE
oh was the storyline! lol
Wow. That is the weirdest musical ever.
I think the way Harold fartmeyer version of race is on because I don't like the original London version because i like the 1986 revival version better
Family guy brought me here
Gary Mcfadden STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS! STARLIGHT EXPRESS!

How could trains ever possibly race cross country. There's only 1 track.
It's a show about fucking trains...
