This is good advice y’all. Also, roll your shoulders forward creating an air gap between your chest protector and your torso to allow a softer cushion for the ball to hit. Helps kill the ball where you belly button faces. Just a thought.
The new knee guards make this possible. If you have the old style shin/knee guards don’t drop your knee. You will catch a fast ball in the knee. It’s harder and slower to get up from a one on the ground than it is to shuffle/hop in front of the ball, then stand and fire to the baseman. A lot of energy is wasted if you have to get up off the ground that could be put into the throw.
