    Neat! I enjoyed seeing you do a tech review. My only critique is that it would be helpful if you added a summary at the end detailing what you felt each piece did best at (with visuals if possible, even if it's just some bare-bones notes on each). But, maybe I just think this because it seemed this was comparing the different devices and I got a little lost. Nice job!

      @@ryanfisher582 that is true if your a review channel such as LTT and GN. But as someone just posting one here and there it can actually boost your matrix since you’ll pick up a bunch of one off viewers looking for the comparison between them. But seriously depends on which matrix your looking for. Basic click views, time watched, or even subscribers. All have different ways to approach things.

    Set it and forget it until Windows updates and changes everything. 🤣 So the Wave XLR is working well with the Shure SM7B, that's good to know. I'm looking into upgrading from USB mics to an actual XLR one and since the GoXLR isn't Mac compatible I've been unsure what to even consider. Now you just need an Elgato sponsorship so I can buy it through a link.

    The Go XLR has it’s own drive to store samples, and it’s routed though the direct monitoring so there’s no latancy, same with the mic. Almost all audio interfaces outside the go XLR don’t have that. I do see you’re using Reaper to EQ your mic, so you can use a sampler within Reaper, but you need to keep you’re buffer (block) size as low as you PC can handle (62 sample would feel almost instant). It’s Defo getting complicated so you should just consider keeping the Go XLR as it’s does what you need. Mic quality being better on the other hand is your call. Is that gain in quality worth the effort of setting up a virtual cable to reaper etc. hard call.

    • @alexbennie
      @alexbennie Рік тому +2

      I understood some of those words.

    • @BlindDigital
      @BlindDigital Рік тому +5

      @@alexbennie in simple words, if the mic quality of the new audio interface is miles better than the Go XLR, then he does have the options to use a sampler plug in within Reaper (the program he issued to filter and EQ his mic) as he’s already got that software installed. There will be loads of you tube video about reapers samplers and you’d route that via a virtual cable into his streaming software. Because the pc processes the audio and not the hardware from the go XLR, the sample rate and buffer size effects the latency so he need to set that low. I don’t think I made that more simple to be fair 😂

    Awesome video! Extremely insightful! Question - When implementing the Wave XLR, do you still need to use a Cloudlifter (or similar)? To echo on many others' comments, this type of 'behind the scenes' technical video with some product reviews are absolutely priceless, so keep 'em up!

    • @impulseSV2
      @impulseSV2  Рік тому +16

      You don't need the Cloudlifter since the Wave XLR can deliver 75db of gain which is enough to power the Shure SM7B which is a power hungry mic. I do however have a preamp I use (ART Tube MP/C) that I use mainly for the warm tone it gives my voice with this mic. I am using gain from that now but I also tested with no gain on the preamp and only from the Wave XLR and it did pretty well. Still might not hurt to include a Cloudlifter in your chain if you have one just so you aren't pushing your Wave XLR to it's upper limits.

    Meant as constructive criticism: Your framing of this shot is off. You can either raise your seat so your are better in frame, or lower your camera. If you lower your camera, the background won't be framed as well as it is in the shot, but that's okay because you are the focus, not the stuff in the background

    • @miniciominiciominicio
      @miniciominiciominicio Рік тому

      I think the stuff in the background is cool to help inform the viewer (a non-HC viewer) to see what Impulse is all about, especially the 1M play button as they might be more likely to check out the main channel.
      I do agree that the framing is off. Perhaps if Impulse were to do standing reviews?
      I don’t like the black curtain cutting off the length of the back wall though. I wonder if it’s possible to create a false door with the wall tiles?

    Hey Impulse! When I was in my mid-20s, I was the head producer + recording/mix engineer for a small studio.
    There, I used a Marian Seraph A3 pci-e card that connected via optical cables to XLR breakout boxes. There were 3 ADAT inputs and 3 ADAT outputs (8 audio channels per port)
    The whole setup was a few hundred dollars, and there was zero noticeable latency (

    I now have
    - 12 SFX samples (GO XLR)
    - 6 voice effects presets (GO XLR)
    - 12 SFX samples (GO XLR)
    - Headphone/Broadcast/Chat mixes (GO XLR)
    - 6 hardware inputs (1 on GO XLR + 5 on Behringer Xenyx X1204USB)
    - 5 virtual inputs (4 on GO XLR + 1 on X1204USB)
    - 14 audio FX (X1204USB)
    - Main/Alt/Aux outputs (X1204USB)
    Now I just need a Streamdeck XL

    I appreciate you doing the review... even if they are not the best in terms of analytics, please keep it up... It is a great resource for those of us who are starting out, potentially allowing us to bypass potential mistakes, and tech heads like me LOVE seeing this sort of stuff. (I follow many tech related channels, and my biggest disappointment is they never update their behind the scenes or "this is what you need to do X" videos after the first year or so. That leaves the fans with 5-10 year old tech info that will do them no good)... I have long loved the game rig/office walk arounds by those gamers I follow, I LOVE when they go "I just BOUGHT this gadget and here is how it works and what I think of it". I saw you posted this and I practically got giddy (in part because a goXLR has been on my wish list for a while now (in no small part thanks to you) before I found out about the goXLR, I had plans to solder up some guitar effect pedal circuits, EQs and audio filters to connect between my mic and my computer (of course I also need to make a mixer so I can connect the same mic to my radio communications gear (Ham, CB, and GMRS) but that is a whole other unrelated project))

    Thanks for posting this... 2 thumbs up...

    My goxlr mini died on me this past weekend. Not sure what happened but none of the audio routes work anymore except for optical in. So I went with the wave XLR and man do I miss my goxlr. Granted I have sub mixes now which is really nice, but I really miss the ease of use of the goxlr especially the live monitoring WITH EQ included.

    Great Video! As a live events and livestreaming operator I'm always interested in this kit and I love that new streamdeck plus and think it'll work great for our uses too. I did wonder looking at the audio routing you had and you wanted to run voice and samplers through the same mix, instead of sending aux to mic as you were talking about can you send your mic input, and sfx channels to an aux channel and then use that aux output as the main one for OBS, discord and others? That way it will mirror the go xlr functionality you were hoping for, this shouldn't, have an appreciable delay on it if the software and firmware is designed well enough.
