  • This is one of the most iconic rifles of all time, the Mosin rifle. Developed in the late 19th century, the Mosin rifle was the standard issue rifle for the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union.
    This one is actually an American made Mosin, made by New England Westinghouse. It’s accuracy is pretty decent for an old rifle. The condition of the lands and grooves look great and made me think about bringing this one to the Talladega Marksmanship Park. Well that's what this video is about, testing out this American made Mosin Nagant M91 at 600 Yards!
    The design of the Mosin rifle was a collaboration between Russian and Belgian engineers, with Captain Sergei Ivanovich Mosin, who gave the rifle its name, playing a key role in its development. The rifle was first adopted by the Russian military in 1891 and it quickly gained a reputation for its durability and reliability.
    The Mosin rifle served in many conflicts including the Russo-Japanese War, World War I and World War II, and it was also used by many other countries. It’s a true testament to the ingenuity and skill of the engineers who designed it.

      @@BattlefieldCurator Yep there is a significant POI with the bayonet and without. Iraqveteran8888 did a video almost 10 years ago or more shooting a 91/30 out to 300 or 400 yards and it was pretty significant POI.

    Mosins are all over the place , especially the ones made in the early war , when the enemy was almost at the back door . I have a 1938 Tula . It works just fine , minimal wear .

    My 1917 Remington M91 is on its last leg almost shot out bore. My Gew 98 has a super good bore though

      I’d say you are quite fortunate to have the Gew98 in great condition. I’ve not seen very many Gew98 rifles recently but I have seen many M91s

    It is true that Russian zero doctrine was with bayonet attached or in the case of M44; deployed

    I had a american made Mosin 91 back in 1990 I bought out of shotgun news for 24 dollars . That was shipping and all . I remember norma shells cost the same price as the rifle . Friend made fun of me for deer hunting with it , but I got anice 8 pointer . They didn't get anything .

      Lol 😂 yep nothing wrong with the rifle, there’s plenty of folks who have used military surplus... Don’t need to have the latest and greatest tool to get the job done if an older tool works just fine.

    • @BattlefieldCurator
      @BattlefieldCurator  Рік тому +1

      How so? I’ve seen many military surplus rifles used out there. One time, a guy had a Gew 88 and couldn’t hit the 100 yard target accurately at all with PPU 8mm. He switched to new production 8mm (from OWS I think) and he grouped fine. I took a picture of the ammo he used, I’ll have to find it later

  • @joearledge1

    I'd want cash or ammo to replace the rounds fired and time wasted on the defective lane since they insist on using an electronic shot marker, and require qualification. I know it's not cheap these days and I'm sure range time there is fairly expensive too.

    • @BattlefieldCurator
      @BattlefieldCurator  Рік тому +1

      Yea and 7.62x54r was hard to source locally. It used to be abundant, but fortunately we had a pass for free range time.

    • @joearledge1
      @joearledge1 Рік тому +1

      @@BattlefieldCurator that's good at least you didn't lose money there. Also should have told them that you needed to attach the bayonet to qualify, since that's how it was sighted in, and would have been the proper historically correct shooting configuration. Lol, not sure the RSO would have found it as funny as I do, as I assume they don't allow fixed bayonets on the range.
