Yesssss I'm adding all of these to my tbr! Always wanting to diversify my shelves! My Sister the Serial Killer is fab as an audiobook, but I'd love to reread it physically! You know I *adore* Black Water Sister and you were so right in recommending it to me! Death Note has been floating around my tbr for a few years now, it just sounds like my vibe! Her Body and Other Parties is of course one that I'm super down to try. I think my favourite Gothic book has to be Babel 😅
Yay, I'm glad you've got ones for your tbr from this list 🎉 Truly recommend each and every wrong so you can't go wrong with whatever you have added. And yes, Babel is a solid gothic choice (from what I've read of it!)
I loved My Sister, The Serial Killer! I found it so compelling to read. I've never heard of Black Water Sister but it sounds really interesting. I also need to read something by Carmen Maria Machado. I always hear good things about her books.
ooh these will definitely help fill in some of my prompts for gothtober, and it's also reassuring to see stuff I already planned on reading in this video as well
i maintain that the gilda stories by jewelle gomez is the best vampire novel of them all so thats gotta be my fave diverse gothic so far, i have high hopes for the books on my gothtober TBR though!! mexican gothic is also a strong contender, its excellent. also im mad at myself for not seeing beloved as gothic before because youre obviously so right!
Ahh I so need to read the gilda stories and stop just holding it on my tbr!! I love that you champion a diverse vampire book so much though -- those definitely deserve more attention. I hope you are enjoying your gothtober tbr so far. I finished mexican gothic today and my mind is blown 🤯 and yes, definitely a gothic!!
I remember my sister the serial killer being super short!! I read it two years ago. black water sister sounds so good!! so many books you mentioned are books I'm interested in! I started cemetery boys once but I stopped reading it for some reason. The part I read was good so I need to pick it back up.
Fun! I started reading Her Body and Other Parties a couple of years ago but didn't finish it before it returned itself to the library - maybe this is the perfect event to get back to it! :)
I'll be reading My Sister The Serial Killer in Oct for Black O Ween. I love Monstress and Black Water Sister. Tokyo Ghoul has a special place in my heart. Beloved is an absolute piece of art. M is for Monster looks so good.
I think I need to try more graphic novels. I really did enjoy Death Note! So many amazing recommendations. Her Body and Other Parties is definitely a book that has stayed with me!
Yes, definitely try more graphic novels and manga! There is such a vast wealth of those types of books - you'll have plenty of choice for any of your genre preferences 😌
Great recommendations! I have read only one from these, but few are on my radar. I really want to read Cemetery Boys and Fledgling or any book by Octavia E. Buttler. I wish I could recommend something, but I’m so bad with understanding the genres. I’m sure I’ve read some good ones that would fit the gothic vibe:)
I am so happy that you want to read more Octavia E. Butler! And I hope we will both like cemetery boys. And don't worry, it is difficult sometimes with the gothic genre because it can be quite vague and all inclusive! 👻
I liked My Sister, the Serial Killer. I liked the short chapters too and yes it does feel different than most thrillers! I'm putting Black Water Sister on my wishlist. I've heard many good things of Toni Morrison's books. I will add Beloved to my wishlist. Yay for Death Note! I haven't read Tokyo Ghoul, but it sounds like a fitting recommendation. I have Cemetary Boys on my general TBR too. Tbh I'm not entirely sure what counts as a gothic book 😅 so not sure I could recommend anything.
Short chapters are always welcome 😉 ooh I hope you'll like black water sister a lot! Beloved is very good but it is also very cleverly written so I'd recommend you reading it when you're in the mood for the kind of book that takes a lot of thinking. Gothic is a very vague genre and categorisation, so I understand 😌
I really enjoyed my sister the serial killer I read it for gothtober last year...sadly as much as I loved the art and was intrigue by monstress I had to DNF as it was freaking me out so much, (I never got over the little cyclops boy's fate...clearly pictures affect me more than words!) I am highly anticipating Black Water Sister. I now have read half Zen Cho's work (Sorceror Royal Duology) she is a new Fave author for me, but I also don't want to have nothing left to read by her 😬 have her novella Order of the Pure Moon.. to read too. Excited!
I'm glad you enjoyed my sister the serial killer as well! And yes, visuals can be quite intense just like with films. I'm glad you loved the art even if it was a bit too much for you. There are always other graphic novels! And I hope you enjoy embarking on Zen Cho's other works as well ✨
Frankinstiltskin sounds amazing! I really enjoy Rumplestiltskin (always felt he was a better character than the gold loving King handy with his execution threats) I am intrigued...alas my library does nit have it! One for the wishlist!
Rumplestiltskin is fantastic! Back when I watched once upon a time, he was also my favourite character in the whole show. I hope you have fun with frankenstiltskin ☺️
Hope you have a great reading month. Also very intrigued by deathnote. The book I have been saving for this is "The Library of the Dead" by T L Huchu. 💀💜📚
@@OliviasCatastrophe looking forward to reading all your responses to my comments, but have to parents for a bit. But I had to ask first, as I am reading an amazing poetry collection. Have you read Sophia Thakur "Somebody give this Heart a Pen"??? I just read shiny black - so many emotions in 6 lines!!!!!!
@@ChattieTheMadChatter Of course, there is never any rush to respond - it took me some time to reply in the first place as well! Ooh, I haven't heard of this poet before so I'll have to look into her! Thank you for the recommendation :)
@@OliviasCatastrophe I am slowly working my way through the comments 🥰 Thanks I know there is no rush, but I just want yiu to know I always appreciate that you respond, as I love all the chat💜📚 Also this (will link below) poem, is not in the book BUT I am sharing it everywhere as it is INCREDIBLE I love it so much! ua-cam.com/video/i-F_tnNGwh8/v-deo.html
I started listening to Her Body and Other Parties and I've found it so confusing. I don't think they actually let you know when youre on another story which is probably why I've not been drawn in!
It's a magnificent book, but it is incredibly heavy. I have not seen the film and I would definitely need to mentally prepare. Oh dear on your friend walking out 😂 I can understand why though...

Thank you! It sounds like White Smoke is EXACTLY what I'm looking for to finish my Gothtober TBR. Excited to get to it!
Yay, I'm glad to have helped a bit! I also hope you enjoy white smoke. I thought it was fantastically spooky 👻
Monstress seriously has the most beautiful art! And I hope you get the chance to pick up Cemetery Boys and Mexican Gothic - I loved both of those!
I think it's some of my favourite artwork in a graphic novel! I just finished mexican gothic today and absolutely adored it 😍
I adored the way you described Beloved. A lot of new to me books as well! Great recs 🍂
Thank you! A favourite for sure. 💕
My Sister the Serial Killer is the only one of these that's on my TBR for the year. Glad to hear it lives up to the hype.
It's definitely deserving of the hype in my opinion 😉 I hope you enjoy it too!
I loved My Sister, The Serial Killer! I found it so compelling to read. I've never heard of Black Water Sister but it sounds really interesting. I also need to read something by Carmen Maria Machado. I always hear good things about her books.
Yes, such a good one to race through! Can't recommend black water sister of carmen maria machado more 😊
ooh these will definitely help fill in some of my prompts for gothtober, and it's also reassuring to see stuff I already planned on reading in this video as well
I am glad to know it was a helpful video, and reassuring as well ^.^
These books sound fascinating. Thank you for your recommendations!
Anytime! Thank you for watching 😇

Very short and very quick! I think you'd like black water sister as well. 😉

I would be so curious to see what you think of it! I'd definitely recommend 😉
Oh my gosh. I could put your intro on repeat and be content for days. Beautiful, new supporter here!
Oh my goodness, thank you 🥹🥹🧡
I'll be reading My Sister The Serial Killer in Oct for Black O Ween. I love Monstress and Black Water Sister. Tokyo Ghoul has a special place in my heart. Beloved is an absolute piece of art. M is for Monster looks so good.
Ooh I especially love that one and hope you enjoy my sister the serial killer too! I think you'd like m is for monster as well 😉
Really great list alot of these I haven’t heard of I’ll definitely be picking up Frankenstiltskin
Frankenstiltskin is such a fun children's book 📖
Black Water Sister sounds so good 👀 TOKYO GHOUL MY BELOVED ONCE AGAIN!
Couldn't recommend black water sister more!! Love all the TG love 🖤
I love that there is so many here I have never heard of. Will definitely need to check these books out
I'm glad you could get some new to you recommendations ^.^

Love these recommendations. Monstress has been on my TBR for too long.

Both such good books 📖

Ooh Beloved is one of my favorites! Oh I have Cemetery Boys on audio- maybe I should give that a listen in October...
A very good favourite to have. I really need to get to cemetery boys as well. It sounds so promising 🙂
Loved this list! Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤
Anytime! Thank you for watching ♥️
Black Water Sister is one I've been curious about!
It's a lot of fun and very wild, I really enjoyed how unexpected it always was 😇

I have yet to get into more horror or gothic or gothic thriller books. 📚
I really enjoy the gothic genre, but it isn't one for everyone!

Great recs! I'll be using Fledgeling and maybe Witches steeped in Gold for the Blackaweenathon hosted by @Locd Booktician.
I love that and I hope the readathon is going well for you! Both of those are books I want to read too 😌
Hope you have a great reading month. Also very intrigued by deathnote. The book I have been saving for this is "The Library of the Dead" by T L Huchu. 💀💜📚
Death note is such a smart story. I have seen the library of the dead around and it has such a fantastic title 🖤

I really need to get to cemetery boys.. My sister the serial killer was sooo good..
You and me both! We'll get there 😃
and you know I loved Mexican Gothic!
I just finished it yesterday and loved it too! 😍
Love Monstress!
So good!
I love this, thank you for the recommendations! 💜👻
Anytime! Thank you for watching 🥰

oh that's so confusing!! They should definitely make it clearer for when there is a switch 😪
Beloved was so heavy (and I was too young to be reading it at the time)
I went to see the movie and my bff walked out in the first 5 minutes lol
It's a magnificent book, but it is incredibly heavy. I have not seen the film and I would definitely need to mentally prepare. Oh dear on your friend walking out 😂 I can understand why though...
You know I'm just here to scream about Tokyo Ghoul hahaha! Sooooo good!!
Hehehee yes I do know it 😉 I will get there someday, I promise!
