lol, same thing 2 years ago with the Adidas Ozweego, back then i bought a colorway that in my opinion was ugly, turned out to be super comfy… now i have 5 pairs of them 🤣
For a while in High School I had a pair of Air Monarch IV, I basically ran those things into the ground and the only shoe I wore every day all day, I haven't gotten another pair but it's interesting seeing these shoes dissected.
I needed a full leather shoe for work. And all I could find were the Nike Monarchs. So I got them. I absolutely hated them. They were too bulky, and felt weird. And they would make an annoying squeaking sound when I walked. I was happy to get rid of them once I left that job. But, they did protect my feet well.
You had the squeak too? I though it was just my shoes. Will never buy them again. Comfort was average. But after about six or seven months of use, the outsole started separating from the rest of the shoe.
The squeak is due to the air unit separating from the EVA foam surrounding it and leaving a small space that then gets compressed and makes the sound. It’s a really common problem with encapsulated air Nikes.
You can literally buy these ones for that price at a nike outlet, where you can find them very often. Look at the video from Rose Anvil about the Air Force 1s and you can see that not all nike shoes are overpriced.
you guys are lucky to be able to get shoes that cheap, air monarch costs over 200 my country currency here and average salary here is a lot lower than US I'm jelly
Dear Mr.Anvil, Please cut open Reebok Club C. They come in a variety of types/price points. Some are supposed to have eva foam and some empty chambers. Thank you
I bought Nike Air Monarch's about 3 years ago. The fronts of both soles started to pull apart after one season of very easy[knock around] use, and I ended up having to epoxy soles back together. They also squeak when walking, so I usually never wear to a restaurant or bar, just around the house. Would never waste money on again!
I've had my White Air Monarchs for 4 years now, and the shoe still look brand new. The stitching is intact, no squeaking, no breakage anywhere to be found. The ultimate comfy Air ride is still there. For $62 from Shoe Carnival, I more than got my money's worth out of these sneaks. I love Monarchs.
I tried to switch from Air Monarch to New Balance but their arch wasn't as comfortable, so I'm rocking the Monarchs for around 30 years, one iteration or another. It's guaranteed comfortable.
The New Balance 574 ruined my feet. After a lifetime spent walking a lot in Nikes, I was stupid enough to change them for "fashion" and the result is very bad tendinitis and a worsening of the situation of my arch.
Iv bought this shoe at least 7 times in my life. I remember getting them for $45 on sale back In the day, they are actually a good pair if you don’t mind what others say 💪🏾
You did it!! I asked about doing a video on these!!, I have a pair, and theirs a lot wrong with them, but my brother has a pair for 15 years now! they are slippers at this point!

I've been wearing new balance and Under Armor for running and Adidas for around the house for the last 20+ years. To be clear; I'm not trying to hang on to my youth by wearing whatever type of shoe. I need certain shoes for certain things and Nike has never made a type that I really need in my life. As far as style goes.; those Monarchs are hideous.
I had a pair of Air Monarchs for the last ten years and they finally just ripped and I immediately ordered new ones off Nike website. They are 25-40% off right now depending on what color you pick.
Hi, could you please do a cut in half video about Nike Air Max Plus / Nike TN's? I think their design is really interesting, especially with the shank , the differently designed outsole and the differently pressured air chambers. Thanks in advance.
I bought a pair of Air Monarchs recently. They look a lot like the knock offs I had been buying at WalMart for years for $10 a pair. Except that the fit is a bit tighter. And the sole is extremely stiff. So are the uppers. As a result they are not nearly as comfortable as the $10 Walmart shoes that Walmart no longer sells. I guess I'll have to take a look at New Balance because I don't particularly like the Air Monarchs. Oh, and I'm a grandfather, if that means anything.
Gotta love a dad shoe, once you become a dad this kind of comfort is essential for shopping trips, if you have a daughter you will already have this knowledge 😂
It's been a while since I've seen Weston cut apart shoes, but as soon as I come back, he grows this absolutely beautiful Magnum P.I. mustache. Keep up the great stuff bud.

Couple of years ago I went on erasmus so I had to pack ligth, I only brougth a couple of shoes. Two pairs of almost brand new all black monarchs and White ebernon lows. Low tier nikes you could say. I ended up wearing the monarchs through hours upon hours of travelling through the old continent and they were comfortable, durable, and keep my feet warm and isolated from the winter conditions in Europe, not an easy task by the way. At that time I didnt even know they were considered dad shoes, I bougth them cause they look cool (maybe a liitle bit too edgy) and they were reasonably priced. Almost three years have passed now and they havent even started to fall apart, for a 40 euros shoe, one of the BEST winter shoes I have ever hold in my humble sneaker collection.
The Nike Monarch IV is iconic, dads love it for their comfort, styling, and dare i say because they are a bit bulky while being very cost effective. The only downside for dads is that in their latest generation they have a dreaded squeak that happens over time which is related to the glue that Nike switched over to many years ago. A backup to the Nike is the New Balance 623, however while likely a better runner at slightly less cost with no squeak…styling wise Nike Monarch’s have them beat. Its not like dads are beating up the sports arena, they just want comfort, styling and relatively economical and Monarch’s are a hit in all of those area’s. A better runner for dads is the New Balance 623, but you give up a bit of classic styling for that,
I have a pair and, though comfortable, they squeak every time I step on one foot. I went to replace them with the same model a couple of years ago....they squeaked, too. A couple of weeks ago, a friend of my son had a pair of Monarchs on. Guess what, different size shoe, but they still squeaked! Back to New Balance.
My personal review Pros: Affordable, mildly weather resistant, decent cushioning for it's price. Cons: Unbreathable, bulky (good for you if you're into bulky shoes), makes squeaky noise, dad status.
I had an all black pair when I worked as a combo clerk at Ralphs. My puppies never barked, ankles never broke, and calves never quivered. Ima go buy a pair 😭
Hey man, I have been watching your videos for a couple years now. Huge fan of the boots you do. Would you be able to start a series on basketball shoes? I would love to know what is inside these newer basketball shoes. Love your work brother!
I wear New Balance because they're the only off-the-shelf shoe wide enough for my feet (just). The more expensive or better ones just don't have extra wide fittings. Yes, my flipper feet gave me an advantage at swimming contests.
Returned mine recently that I bought .. they squeaked and the sole was separating .. Nike agreed to refund me on them as I had bought all black and another color .. that I hadn’t worn yet that was new in box .. the overall look isn’t bad for a dad style shoe .. the price point is fine but I’d rather pay more for a quality shoe . That doesn’t squeak and fall apart after a year of normal use
Yes they are great, wore these during most of my young adult life, super comfortable, you have cut up 4 or more of my most favorite shoes ever including these
Oh man. I asked for a review of the Monarch last year. Didn't know I'd find out I'm wearing plastic shoes with fake vents. Great review! The acting deserves an Emmy. Better writing than season 8 of Game of Thrones. Any chance we can get a review of New Balance's 574s? It's one of their most popular models and usually featured in their displays in their brick 'n mortar stores.
Cool to see inside .. I don't care if they lied about how their built .. Worked on the floor in Home Depot 15 years and tried many shoes ..These are the most comfortable and durable ones I found ... However I haven't tried any really high dollar shoes ..
Personally I love my air monarchs, I just got a pair and they are super comfortable. Granted I like new Balance too but I was unable to find a pair to fit my super wide and long feet. I wear a 13 wide, a very hard shoe size to shop for.
I have foot problems and my podiatrist recommended Nike Monarchs and I've had several pairs but they don't last long and they are not nearly as comfortable or last as long as New Balance. I have both brands right now but my next new shoes will be New Balance. My first pair of New Balance fell apart and they gave me a new pair for free with custom insoles. They have lasted much longer than the Monarchs
I was doing okay, struggling with the fact I’m about to retire from the Army, then I hear “990”, the shoes I’ve worn for PT for over ten years, from recruiting to Drill Sergeant duty and beyond. 😀 The only thing worse is wearing the Hokas an Army civilian passed down to me and hearing the General talk about how he’s not old enough to wear Hokas.
