Heard if you drop the timing light it damages the strobe light bulb, as there delicate. Have a vw beetle for 40 years and never used a timing light on it, should I check timing on it?

Mine was 9 degrees of compared to Innova Pro light. I would not trust these HF lights! The degree marks are a sticker that's slapped on the end with no way to zero it out. I seen a few in the store with crooked stickers, you get what you pay for...

Lmfao. The manual that came with it seemed straightforward to me. I got it functioning. The only confusion was the book said set the dial to 0 but my timing is supposed to be like 12B TDC so I wasn't sure if I had to turn the dial.

so, with a vw, you have to move the dial until the light starts flashing on exactly the tdc notch. All other cars have many notches indicating other degrees of timing, you would leave it set at 0. On a vw, its more guess and check. Move the dial back and forth until you get a reading, and then adjust your distributor accordingly.

Not sure if I’m understanding this correctly.
If your OEM Pulley is notched at 0 TDC and you have no other notches. To set it at 28 degrees, you turn the knob on the time light to 28 and run the motor at 2500-3000 rpm and run the time light till you see the TDC mark at the half mark(center) of the case by adjusting the distributer. Is this correct?
