Emma, mountain biking can initially be sort of lonely and very clunky. Don’t feel discouraged! Everyone has felt how you felt this time around! A Pitch 27.5 is a fine bike to start on and you will loosen up as time goes on. I too often wish I had a buddy when riding, too! Maybe try some stuff with flow, some carriage trails, etc. Pretty soon the rocky stuff will look like nothing. 😄

I had a Nissan pathfinder, that I made a slide out double bed for. I side it into a single size to get it in and out of my Nissan. I bought some slim line totes and made the bed high enough for them to fit under. Using the KISS method - keep it simple sweetheart - one for my pantry, one for utensils, side doors, one for clothes and one for emergency necessities. My esky was on the front seat and my 20L of water was in the front floor well. The only thing on my bed was my pop up change tent. It was such a great little set-up. I had extra 2L water containers frozen in my esky instead of ice bags. They last 3 days and no messy water to clean up. When it was too hot I had cold water to sip and cool down with.

Emma at 2:37 -- been at that same conclusion with my SUV. Only issues that may arise are being in bear country, being on the ground in very wet/rainy conditions and maybe time spent for set-up/tear down.
At least with a truck, you can add headroom in the back various ways -- Ie get a taller topper, add a spacer between the truck box rails and the topper (or even get a TopperLyft which you can remove and keep if you ever change trucks).
You've proven yourself to be highly practical, so I'm certain you'll figure out something that works well for you. Personally, I'd cobble together my own Wedge - camper using the pop-top from an old VW Westfalia or GTRV. Similar to the Honda Element E-campers or maybe like a *Flip-pac* or *Wildernest* topper.
Just be sure to *enjoy the process* on the way to getting the result you want. Thanks for sharing your days and inspiring us!
    Cheers!...from North Vancouver
