I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I am a pensioner so have very little spare cash. I built a 24v 50ah battery with BMS with 4 * 100w solar panels connected in series with Victron solar charger and a 3000w chinese inverter. This gets my 2 small fridges and freezer running while the sun shines. We have power outages all the time called "load shedding" between 2 and 4 hours at a time. I am going to upgrade the battery to 24v 200ah when I have saved the money, probaly in 4 months time, then save for a 48v system.
Great viewing.I just got my hybrid solar system installed ,and its awesome ,monitoring the portal all the time on my phone and knowing polluting ,unsightly power grids are no longer going to be my prime reliance on energy is about as satisfying as it gets.

Hey there fellow outdoor enthusiasts and RV lovers! I recently watched the video on "What Size Solar Battery Do I Need?" and wanted to recommend the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It has a massive capacity, powerful output, and fast recharging capabilities, making it perfect for our outdoor adventures. Plus, its waterproof technology and comprehensive protections are a great bonus. Definitely worth considering for extended power on the go!
I was really looking forward to a suggestion on helping me determine what size solar battery I need for my home. Directing me to a local solar installer and letting me know there is a calculator being developed is not very helpful to me.
Think there was a different reason for systems without a battery. A there weren't any and B if there was a battery available the ROI was 40 years iow too expensive. They have become a little cheaper but not at a pricepoint where they should be.
Non profesional input here. Do you want 18kwh (total energy storage) If you want 18 kwh storage you may have to consider the ff. Battery type (Lead, Ni-Ca, Li-Po) System configuration (12v, 24v, 48v) Approximate loss (Powerloss in conversion) Prefered Backup (If you need power for medical, security, fridge, and comunication) Avg power usage (assume combined discharge for entire day) Peak power discharge (appliance more than 1 kw) There might be more, but these are what I recomend looking out for.
Hi Peter. On average, a solar battery installation can cost between $9,000-$14,000. However, battery storage systems qualify for the 30% federal solar tax credit. The best way to compare prices for batteries is to look at the cost per kWh. Psst. There is NO SUCH THING as a "solar battery". Just thought you should know. This is gonna be hard to listen to. I have shore power with my rent, but I have built a nice solar system and can live unplugged. 2400w of active solar in 2 arrays (1160 and 1200) with 1600Ah of lithium. Victron MPII 12v 3000 120 with a pair of 150\70's, BMV 712 smart and a CERBO. Backup power comes from a nice quiet little Honda EU2000i that gives me 1120w. I used 9.7Kwh today but it's usually more like 15Kwh.. Your calculator isn't working..!

Don't bother watching. The website doesn't work anymore. Just sits there "retrieving results".
Works for me and it is pretty accurate.

Thanks Freddy. Great to hear.

I’ve got 2 48v battery banks , 1 - 280Ah & 1 - 40Ah & I started building 1 - 320Ah my BMS ‘s are DAILY 15S 120A
Corded power tools only list one number in AMP's, is it usually the starting or running AMPS???
Hi. What is the brand of the wood fire place in the background? Thank you. Frank.
Tried the tool and the progress bar just sits once compleated. Also it seems to be doing a LOT of work just for me adding a zip code....seems sketchy.
same
Worked fine for me and looks pretty accurate.
What if I already have solar panels and I want to add batteries. How do I determine how many batteries to get?
any calculator for australia ??
Quite informative. Thanks
Thanks Kimbo
For me the more power the better cause each day is different
Might use more power might not.
I want off grid power
The calculator never finished retrieving results. It’s broken.

Simple, if you want to save money running off batteries, reduce your usage so you need fewer batteries!
Been on retrieving results for 8 minutes
Solar calculator stops at 'Retrieving results' and takes forever to get even that far...😢
How do you calculate 18kw solar needs 45kWh?

EG4 batteries are the most economical right now.
What does the size of battery you need have to do with solar power? The battery size should be obvious from your power needs in the home.

So what ? Wood is most renewable resource.
$94k saving in 25 years only problem equipment will not last 10 years

Why does the calculator take so long? There’s no reason it should take a whole minute in 2024.
Papa smurf! In real life!
Hello forest
Dont go with the installer at @10:37 lol 😂
First four min of video, hey did u know people get upset in blackouts so stupid
WHY ARE YOU BOUNCING?? I can't watch you. I had to shut off my monitor and just listen! Sorry, I do appreciate your content. Just can't watch it.
