@@gemmahutton2445 if you're still struggling, there should be anywhere between 1-3 rifles in CH. I've just completed the challenge today. One rifle was on JR island and the other was on the bear picnic, by a corpse. There is a guaranteed one going down the elevator in the abandoned mines, but you'll need an aurora for it and I haven't had an aurora in the challenge in the 10 days that took me to finish it.

In the current version, this challenge is much harder than it was in this video. The rifle becomes the hardest part to find, and you may need to trek through 4 regions or more just to find one. I don't think you can get everything you need in just CH either, the total food in CH might give you 9 days, you will probably have to boil water, and you may have to go to another region to get enough lantern fuel.
I'm new to The Long Dark, still playing on Voyager, but I find your videos very educational and relaxing to watch. Keep it up, hopefully I get to come by when you stream on Twitch, I'll definitely come back on your guides if I try to do some challenges myself.
Nice walkthrough Zak. It's really helping me get it done. Thanks... Update 10/27 I died at day 14. I was just about to finish it and a wolf took me out. Funny thing is I did the defensive move to scare it away like I always do but this time the wolf ignored it and attacked me twice... Update 11/06/23: Finally completed the challenge with a new player time of 17 days 19hrs 4th try. Towards the last few days the game really throws more hurdles to kill you as you get closer to finishing. Best advice is look for the hardest things to find first and anything that can be obtained around home base leave for last. If you want to stay well fed, make sure you collect more food than you need and wood so you can make water. Don't try to make yourself too resistant to the weather so you stay as light as possible to carry more stuff back to homebase. Time for a little break...
1:47:55 this is my favourite survival base right here bear, dear, and wolves outside my door, fishing hut, an outdoor work bench where you can place a snow shelter and craft from within. Only thing missing is the moose and its a little walk for rabbits. Stoves too, only 1 burner to cook other than campfires and all cooking is outside in this area
There is a guaranteed rifle in the cave at the broken bridge on desolation point. The hardest for me was oil, I break all my fishing lines getting the last liter.
@@Bobywan75 Same! Finding the oil & the food was actually difficult for me. Surprisingly I found the rifle within the coastal highway fairly quickly tho yes I did left for the pleasant valley initially tho. Just to find no rifle there
Today I've finished my first challenge - whiteout. It took me 11 days. Biggest problem was how to find lamp fuel and food. I've found fishing gear and went fishing. Everything was good, it gave me food and fuel. But I was 5 pieces of reclaimed wood short. Not a problem - there are plenty of in just outside of gas station. It was too cold, afeter gathering this i had about 1 pixel of live... OK, time to eat, drink and sleep... But after this it was not enought food... It was first time I was happy to see wolf just outside of garage - 5 kg of meat. But during run I was dying 3 times - once it was 3 wolves one by one, second time it was food poisoning and no antibiotics, third was cold. But I'm happy to complete my first challange. Your tutorial is great!

36:10 Fires not only stop a bear, it might even be able to assist you in hunting it. Happened lately that I lootet CH at the Waterfront Cottages. Had a rabbit to cook, so went outside of the house and started a fire right in front of me. Didn't even notice the bear, until he started attacking. Luckily the fire worked, and then he just stood there, about 15 yards away. He coudln't get around the fire, because of the houses fence. I took him out with an arrow, got locky killing him in the process. Was an easy way to harvest the bear right at my doorsteps. Edit: 48:04 I think I know why there's a flare under that couch in each of the houses. Quick reminder: i modded on TES4. Spoiler: The reason why you always find a flare under that couch is because it is kinda the same couch. Those interior cells are duplicated by the creators. They created one interior, placed some items in and randomised the containers and other stuff. Then they duplicated that cell a couple of times and connected each one of them to different exterior houses. A common thing you do when creating 3D-worlds like TES, TLD, Witcher3, Fallout, etc. That's also why the interiors of multiple buildings look all the same - they kinda are the same.

Same here, thank goodness I'm not the only one 😅🙈 Tbh it was not communicated by the game very well.. I survived 30 days, got everything, but I forgot to put down my rifle and the hatchet into the garage 🙄The Countdown went down and suddenly I lost the challenge... I didnt know it was so crucual to this challenge to have the items IN THE GARAGE INVENTORY (and not the players inventory). Why does the player inventory not count, even if you're in the garage? I dont understand 🤷 Imo the challenge sucks in this regard. A very disappointing experience afterwards😒 Technically I would have made it. But even if the winning conditions were unclear, I had an awesome adventure though 🤗
First I want to say that I love your videos, they're extremely helpful and also entertaining. I've only been playing tld for 4 months or so and the wolves used to worry me, but your tips fixed that issue. I watched a player do the Whiteout challenge and they completed it in 12 hours, so i was wondering if you had plans to do another speed run? I would enjoy seeing you beat that time.
12 hours was incredibly fast, the person didn't miss a beat. It was interesting to watch. I've watched most of your videos and I honestly believe you could beat or match that time, but only if you quickly find the amount of coffee they found. Even if you don't do that insane speed run I would still like to see you do one last run on the challenges before the new updates come out. Either way I still have a lot of your videos to watch through. Thank you for the fun videos!
i'm at day ~7 and I cleared out all of CH, even all of the fishing huts. I was forced to go to DP for 0.6gal lantern fuel and 1 more bullet, and after going to the lighthouse, riken, and hibernia I still need 0.3gal of fuel! :P trying to channel some luck from you

I didn't saw you make it so maybe can be a little tip: When you stop to harvest something you have to wait until food bar drain less...but if you run and you sudden stop it take more than walking and much more than crouch just before stopping. Especially when you harvest 2 or more cat tail in the same spot, moving crouched save a lot of time (on a long term). Sorry for my English :)
@@Zaknafein not exactly...the "brief second" you have to wait can change. If you're running and than you stop you have to wait a way longer than the same while crouch. Its not a big advantage but the fact you wait less reduce risk of miss-click

I've only summited like 5 times on Interloper and I bet I have over 400 hrs playing Interloper alone. Watching your vids Zaknafein have really helped me Improve my game play style a lot. I am no longer afraid of wolves, and often use them to my advantage, especially when it comes to getting FREE deer kills. So ty from the bottom of my heart for all the vids you upload. I watched someone else do this over on Twitch a few months back can't remember her name for the life of me now. But it got me to thinking and I decided to do an "improved" Custom version of this challenge. I Call it "ApocoDoc" 20 day challenge so far I have got about half way there in 20 days IT IS TOUGH or at least ways it is tough for me. here's the details IF you fancy trying it yourself. custom Inter Code 8sHM-f/8v-Hw9j-mc70-NsMF Start in PV and create a "Clinic" in Prepper's Abandoned Cache near entrance to TWM. I think they reworked some of the loot tables in the tftft update but i just found a hatchet spawn in the trailer near the pleasent valley cave entrance and also at one of the canoes in the shore near the dock at log sort

I wonder if it is possible to complete this challenge beach combing only with a couple of rules like only the lantern and riffle to be found and taken to the garage but harvesting allowed?

Same but I have a strange issue.The bears sometimes teleport out of thin air.It happened to me twice where a bear magically appeared and instantly ran at me. 🤣
Same, walking along...notice hey foot prints in the snow...um...bear 🐻 prints in the snow...then a bear would suddenly appear and walk up toward me...happened several times. TG for cars and cabins.

I have a Lenovo desktop with AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core CPU, with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. 16 GB RAM. I record at 2560x1440 resolution at 30 fps - except when I am on my old laptop, then its lower. But most videos from mid-2021 onwards are recorded on my desktop. I use a ton of external hard drives to store footage. In-game I have pretty much everything set to max.
On Day 7 of Whiteout and have not found the rifle. Been to Desolation Point and Coastal Highway. I am now in Mystery Lake. Read a Facebook post that a player had to go to The Summit. Any tips? I will watch the video again.
It seems to spawn on a human body the island across for the garage something rabbit I think it is called I'm not great with the names but one of those 2 small islands beyond the fishing huts hope that helps 👍.
In milton town in bank there s a safe on a metal shelf, I need scrap metL so i decided to breakdown that shelf, and after that, another safe appeared with different loot then the original one. You can get torches from a book, and harvest it for a stick, but it's only useful for a few.

I hate the flares unless its scaring wolves away. The noise is irritating as hell. Lantern is my favorite and fish oil keeps her going.
That soda at 1 hour 43 minutes also spawns at that location in interloper.
I also had no idea that Summit Soda spawned where it did; weird!
There are sometimes raw meat in the crates in the a Aurora cave

They changed the loot in December, so that might have made this harder. I might make this walkthrough again. If you are struggling, you are also welcome to my Discord and ask there, and either me or the community can help out :)

The bears are the biggest issue I have on this challenge
Same but I have a strange issue.The bears sometimes teleport out of thin air.It happened to me twice where a bear magically appeared and instantly ran at me. 🤣
Same, walking along...notice hey foot prints in the snow...um...bear 🐻 prints in the snow...then a bear would suddenly appear and walk up toward me...happened several times. TG for cars and cabins.

I have a Lenovo desktop with AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core CPU, with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. 16 GB RAM.
I record at 2560x1440 resolution at 30 fps - except when I am on my old laptop, then its lower. But most videos from mid-2021 onwards are recorded on my desktop. I use a ton of external hard drives to store footage.
In-game I have pretty much everything set to max.

On Day 7 of Whiteout and have not found the rifle. Been to Desolation Point and Coastal Highway. I am now in Mystery Lake. Read a Facebook post that a player had to go to The Summit. Any tips? I will watch the video again.
They changed the loot, but should still be doable in CH and DP only. But you can go to Mystery Lake or Pleasant Valley. Summit in a pinch.
It seems to spawn on a human body the island across for the garage something rabbit I think it is called I'm not great with the names but one of those 2 small islands beyond the fishing huts hope that helps 👍.

Cloth is in abudance through curtains
Bedroll is usefull if you cant see shit at night so getting too bed is imposible

It says on each feat what you need to do :) it works across runs and in challenges, but not custom

In milton town in bank there s a safe on a metal shelf, I need scrap metL so i decided to breakdown that shelf, and after that, another safe appeared with different loot then the original one. This happen to anyone? I was wondering what gina happen when metal shelf its gone, now i know, i wonder if thats happend always,

@@wj896 gioca benissimo e si può imparare molto, i sottotitoli aiutano a seguire. Non credo abbia problemi a tradurre automaticamente, con altri comunque nessun problema.
I wish I could make subtitles in every language, but that would take a lot of time and I would need help. If anyone wants to volunteer Italian subtitles or others, I am happy to accept, but I unfortunately don't have the time to personally create subtitles for every video I make.
