The Nutube on the VOX preamp really warms it up compared to the other two which sound very solid state. And then you get that VOX chime and sparkle... Just awesome! Has a very vintage breakup sound as well.
They’re all good and usable. I bought the fender because it is so easy to use. Just use a little reverb and compression. Plenty loud enough for small gigs
I have owned the Vox Cambridge 50 for a year now. Sounds a great as the day I bought it....The AC15, AC30, and the Marshall preset models sound dynamite right out of the box. Then You get into Vox Tone Lab to dial in tones of Your own. And yes, it's loud.
On your video you give some false information about the Vox Cambridge 50. There is no speaker out jack on the back of the Vox amp. This jack you mentioned is for the additional footswitch. I have two of these nice amps and I'm planning to add the speaker out to one of my combos to use it with external cab. This could add some versatility to this otherwise great sounding small amp.
I bought a 2021 Fender Champion 50XL from a pawn shop for $40, out of shear necessity. I'm an OTR Owner Operator and I have a Marshall CDR15 that i loved, but it takes a beating in the sleeping compartment of the truck. So I needed something quick. It's ok, but the FX Select and the Voice Select dials have tiny letters and would be hard to adjust for gigging. For practice, it's fine. Plenty loud but the dials defeat the purpose for playing gigs, and adjusting on the fly.
I have the vox. Its a fantastic clean sound in the ac channel. I barely use the other channels. But they are good enough. To me its the best sounding one but i dont play metal
The katana 100 Watt model sounds way better than the 50 Watt version I have both but got rid of KTN 50 .. to brittle tone no matter what I did. But the 100 water sounds awesome, and the artist model sound's huge.. the champion 50 xl and line 6 catalyst 60 are both great, have a 30 Watt spider. V 30 mkii sounds good as well.. maybe the ktn50 I had wasa bad one though?
Vox is always good as well, haven't tried that one yet but the ac 10 i use to have was amazing indeed.. tube vs solid state really becomes irrelevant in Small club/bar usage.. loud marshal 100 watt stack= loud × loud LoL.. Marshal vox fender all great tube amps, katana, line 6 black star fender all good solid state modeling amps.. vox vr30 and orange are great hybrids.. almost forgot about Orange crush amazing solid State amps as well
@@ernielamprell4532 It`s called "Nutube Valve" for a reason! "Nutube, similar to a conventional vacuum tube, has an anode grid filament structure, and operates exactly as a triode vacuum tube."
@@blackforestghost1To me, my Cambridge 50 and MV150 certainly sound like a Vox. I use these amps regularly for gigs, and reference them tone-wise to an AC30. Nutube may behave exactly like a tube, but the suppliers do not pretend that this product is a conventional tube. The comparatively very low power handling is why 4 Ohm speakers are used (and probably why the units have some hiss). If you dont agree, try fitting a Nutube unit in place of a conventional valve.
The nutube is a vacuum tube albeit very small one. It has a plate, grid and cathode just like a 12ax7 whether it sounds the same remains to be seen but Vox and Korg are using them quite a bit their success or otherwise remains to be seen but the Vox sounded pretty good. I’ve got a Katana and the features and effects are amazing but the power amp does sound dry although this is not a problem at higher gain settings. I might try a Vox out and see what I think although it sounds pretty good here on clean and low gain which is how I usually play. Nice review keep rockin!

Vox Cambridge- winner

Great video mate . . Keep them coming.
Vox sounds the best
I have the fender 20 W I have the vox wired both so I can plug them into a 2 x 12 and I have the 100 W katana head

50 watts is not a bedroom amp. I gig my katana 50 all the time.
Me as well.. both the champion and katana 50 are loud enough for small club or bar gigs without milking or line in to pa system
@@robphillips8351 The Katana has a 0.5 watt setting so it can be a bedroom amp, lol.
But it can be an amp for the bedroom rock star to the rehearsal rocker to stage star or the studio stomper.
Like your understated style - thanks.
Vox Cambridge HANDS DOWN
Is this particular Vox still in production. Thanks.

The Cambridge 50 has neither a valve, nor speaker out jack. The jack you refer to is a foot switch socket 😐🤔 Underwhelming.
Cambridge has a Nutube in it, which is a valve. Not the conventional glass bottle tho
@@KevinSparksatxSorry, Cambridge does not have a valve. Nutube technology simulates valves using fluorescent technology, but there are no valves.
