  • Another NSE vid now, this time showing a variety of EMU's at London Bridge with the odd shot at Woolwich Arsenal & Abbey Wood. The main aim of the day was to film some EPB's as they were being replaced by Networker EMUs, themselves also now under threat! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

I used to use the old EPBs in my college days in 1993 then one day a new 465 networker train rolled in - in my head I was thinking, are we getting on this? As a lad I was mind blown by the sudden jump into the future!! It was great! That memory always stuck with me. 😊😊😊😊

I must admit i prefered the old, the EPB's gave you a storming hellfire ride, especially at speed!

The old EPBs were certainly looking rather tired, in fact I think the blue & grey ones looked better than the ones in NSE livery, but it's very nostalgic seeing inside them as dusk draws on. And yes, they played "please do not leave luggage unattended" over and over again then!

Gosh! Doesn't the old EPBs look ancient now. Great nostalgic video.

I used to get the 14:40 Orpington as it happens when I was working early turn in the Essex hospital I nursed at, off at Grove Park and if a friday would be across the road to the Baring Hotel for a livener then home, bath and changed then down the ol' drinking hole for some aperitif's unless I was wandering up to a gig or club in central London.

That was the last year my late father worked London Bridge platform panel 1-6 aka the widowmaker as all it took was one train snarled up on the platforms and the whole lot from Deptford, New Cross ground to a halt and same on the downlines whilst everyone outside and in is shouting at the poor fool stuck with trying to sort out a humongous mess.

I did hear London Bridge was a hard place to signal.... on paper the timetable worked (assuming no delays!) but in reality, it rarely did!

Just read your replies, yep likewise used to carry loads of spare battery’s & tapes, the Hi8 tapes where hour & half, normally would use at least two on an outing! I did mostly south eastern area, you’re spurred me on to try and find an Hi8 camera to watch them again!🤓

Can you not get them uploaded to your computer and then convert to MP4? I used a free programme and once converted use another programme to edit them that i got for £2 off Ebay! Then your films will saved for ever, tape does indeed degrade as a lot of normal TV show VHS tapes have done.

Yep remember these days to, as thinking is, the two ‘car’ EPB units on film was the South London Line London Bridge to Victoria Line , where I started work on BR at Denmark Hill Station, Happy days, even even these are more interesting then all the new ‘plastic’ units around now plus they didn’t wheel slip!

I was here to get the EPB's on film as you can see from the vid the Networkers had started arriving. I did a few other units as well, wish i'd done more of them now but the Southern Slammers were everywhere!

It was no longer a passenger unit but a departmental unit used for route learning and possibly weedkilling/sanditte duties.

MrGriser It was a departmental unit used for route learning hence it having a different end one end. They later used a 3CEP.

Also it stopped half way up the platform and reversed straight out again! They did not want any passengers trying to board them! It appears again at 3:28

Didnt realise the epbs lasted so long. Also a 4cap at the beginning. Also that there were so many blue/grey ones around. I thoughtbthe last was repainted in 1993?

In 1996. The first 16 went to NSE South Eastern services in North Kent while the rest went to the Great Northern services out of Kings Cross. In 2004 the South Eastern ones were transfered to Great Northern services.
