There is no other movie reactor on UA-cam that is anywhere even CLOSE to Ashleigh's caliber of genuineness and charm. Nearly all the other reactors are either too stoic or are merely performing for the camera. She's really in a class all her own at this point.

I don’t watch any other movie reactors anymore. The ones I’ve seen are pandering to the audience, reacting the way they think you want them to. I love Ashleigh’s honesty. If she doesn’t like it, she says so - without being offensive to those who love it.

I've seen this movie about a billion times and your reaction inspired me to read the book.
Holy cow, it was so different.
    1. The story is 100% lesbian love story between Iggie and Ruth, and no one judges them for it oddly (only because it's set in the 30's and 40's mostly)
    2. Buddy (older Buddy) never meets Ruth and dies far from home (no one in the family sees it)
    3. There are a million black characters in the the book with amazing stories that are totally cut for the movie.
    4. The murder/trial is about 4% of the book and the trial happens many years after Ruth dies.
    5. Only Sipsey murders Frank Bennet. And on top of that she beheads him and another boy stabs his body for fun while he guards it in a shed.
    6. Smokey Lonesome dies in the snow trying to get back to Whistle Stop years after the town has been abandoned.
    7. Stump grows up and tells endless stories about Whistle Stop to everyone.
    8. Ninny is NOT Iggie. She married Theo, Iggie's brother. And at the end she does die and Evelyn hears about it while she's at fat camp in California.
    9. When Evelyn goes to visit Ninny's grave she finds the honey and note on Ruth's grave.
    10. Iggie spends her elderly years in Florida selling catfish and honey on the side of the highway with her brother.

Most people don't realize that Idgie & Ruth were lovers. In the novel, written by Fannie Flagg, they were in love and it made for a much more profound take on their relationship.
Of course in 1991 audiences just weren't too accepting of that sort of thing so it was pretty much taken out of the screenplay except for some really obvious implications including the scene where Idgie kisses Ruth outside at night.

Musicals are another favorite of mine (4 out of my top 5) so Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (first movie i saw in the theater) and The Sound of Music also make my top 20. There really is a Whistle Stop Cafe that does indeed serve fried green tomatoes (among other Southern foods) just north of Macon, Georgia. It is in the actual area where many of the scenes were filmed. After the film became a huge success, the Whistle Stop Cafe set was turned into an actual restaurant, and its surrounding area became a tourist attraction. My dad actually had a bit part in this movie as a juror in the court scenes. He can be seen in the far right on the back row of the jury at the 15:37 mark of your video here. The lecturer at the 5:21 mark of your video is Fannie Flagg. She wrote the book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" that the movie is based on. The bee charming scene at the 6:58 mark was actually performed by Mary Stuart Masterson and is authentic with all of the bees on her. She actually agreed to do the scene for authenticity. My dad got to meet Jessica Tandy on set and she posed for a couple of photos while she had the pink/purple hair. The man in the old Cadillac at the 14:03 mark was my mom's uncle. He got jealous of my granddad being in a movie a couple of years earlier and had to get into one too. Hahaha!!! You should actually make a trip to Juliette, GA and make a video eating at The Whistle Stop Cafe when they reopen from the pandemic closures. I think they actually used each seating area inside the cafe in the film. So, you can reference a scene from each sitting area. Jessica Tandy was in "The Birds", but is probably most famous for her part in "Cocoon" with her husband Hume Cronin. Mary Stuart Masterson (Idgie) was in "Some Kind of Wonderful" and "Benny & Joon". What's really ironic is that I was watching "Some Kind of Wonderful" when my dad came home from his first day on set. He said "She was on set with me today". He thought she was about 12 years old. Hahaha! The director, Jon Avnet, actually gave Tom Cruise his start in the movie "Risky Business". That's enough trivia for now. Now, you have some other movies to place on your list for viewing.

It was reported that the stunt double freaked out when she saw the bees and QUIT! Mary Stuart then agreed to do the scene herself. Recently, with FTG's return to the big screen via Fathom Events & TCM, more info was published in an interview: "Wearing a drop of queen bee pheromone, Masterson actually did stick her hand into that hive full of bees. The pheromone attracted the bees to her, and she became, as she described, "I was effectively a giant bee magnet." It was a relatively closed set that day, just Masterson, the director, the director of photography, a driver, and "the bee guy." Oh, and a lot of bees, of course." --- "Masterson noted that this the last major scene she shot for the entire movie, "Not by accident. You know in case I died or something," she said with a laugh." It was written by Fanny Flagg - first as a novel and then as a screenplay. Fannie was also an actress Who appeared on the game show match game.
If you haven’t guessed Ruth and itchy‘s relationship was deeper than portrayed in the film. The early 90s audience wasn’t ready for the novel version of that relationship, well at least that’s what the studio thought. I believe we were, but studio suits are notoriously conservative and tepid.

So this book was written by a lesbian author - Ruth & Idgie are a couple. But in 1991 they chickened out & repackaged this as a "best friends" flick. The food fight scene was shot in lieu of a sex scene!
I saw this in the theater in 1991 at age 12. It's kind of a touchstone movie for gay ladies, especially oldies like me!
If you're up for it, the book is very good. It's put together like a collection of newspaper articles & short stories that you kind of piece together into the whole story.
Thx for being willing to share your raw emotions with everyone! You had me simultaneously sobbing & cracking up, and we all know that laughter through tears is our favorite emotion!

    • @KRAFTWERK2K6
      @KRAFTWERK2K6 3 роки тому

Well if you want " lesbian couple" movies who are more explicit you can always go for european cinema xD Especially french movies. But i think it was clear enough that they both were more than "Just friends". Sometimes it works better if it's not too explicit because if done right it can be clear enough. That's also something to look at if you come back to the film years later and realize something that may have gone over your head before. You don't have that with films who don't shy away and leave no room for your mind to let it settle. More explicit doesn't always age well and can too easily come off as clumsy & too forced trying to be edgy. Especially nowdays.

It blew us away although we actually were to young to really get all the nuances. I bought the darn thing on vhs tape and we kept watching it to help us summon up inspiration for good acting, to help drum up strong emotions. I've not watched this film in some 20 years or more now, and watching it with You in clips still killed me at the same places. Tears fell with You. I should mention I'm a 52 year old straight white married male, not really the demographic for this movie, but thru circumstances I grew to love good acting where-ever it may be found. Your so able to be moved, to bring your own emotions to the surface and your so unafraid to show it to the world in extreme close up, shamelessly. This is a gift and a talent.
