Had a similar problem with sand for a sandblasting cabinet. That needs to be super dry in order to flow properly. I piled all of my wet sand on the garage floor and blasted it with one of those weed burner/roofing torches from harbor freight. It dried out and blew off the pile into a nice ring around the main stack. Once I got to the bottom I dried out about 100lbs of sand. It took maybe 20 minutes. Swept it up and poured it through a window screen to grab the bigger chunks. It worked surprisingly well. Plus it's just fun to blast stuff with a huge flame 😁
I fill my weight bags with 500ml water bottles. Makes it easy to take the water bottles out when I need to flatten the bags out for travel (and not pay for the weight on the flight), then on the other side of the flight, buy a big pack of water bottles. Serves double duty, you drink from the pack, and use some of the bottles for weight. When you're done, give the bottles of water to whoever needs them and fly back.
I've always just used the sand wet and never had any issues, but I do double bag them with the zip lock at opposite ends. But I don't really need precise weights for counterbalancing boom arms or anything, just stabilising portable backdrop stand and flash stands. Great to hear the darkroom build is edging ever closer though, I bet you miss having your full set-up.
What a freak accident, love what came out of it. By the way, you bake potting soil to kill bacteria, so extra benefit is less chance of it molding in the future. By the way, when you packing the ZipLock into the outer covering, my Golden mix came into the room looking to see what treats I had. 😂 Cheers, Adriel
Hello, I would like to buy one of your copy stands - the model 1c - but the shipping costs to the UK with USPS are 60% on top. Could you maybe ship with DHL or UPS, anything more reasonable?
why am i watching a video about someone baking sand??😂

that's a great trick.
We used to do the same for when I worked at a TV hire/production facility, as previously we'd have to cross hire sandbags when traveling abroad.

By the title, I thought your house was going to flood...
Watching this video is like watching sand dry

I´m asking me, if there is a deeper meaning... perhaps a kind of art-performance? a naked photographer is baking sand and fill it up. Love it! ;-)
That's a funny way to print a photo
You can get the same results with Rodinal diluted 1:25
Sandbags are the worst! Just let your stands fall over 😂
