  • In the future, a midwife could do an ultrasound of a high-risk pregnancy in the comfort of the mother’s home, a doctor with a backpack could examine entire refugee camps, or emergency services could diagnose trauma patients at an accident scene. It’s all possible with portable ultrasound machines. It’s peak technological performance. That’s why The Medical Futurist got thrilled when Philips sent us their Lumify system for testing. Check out our portable ultrasound review.

    Was that a review or an advertisement?

      I never accept sponsorship for my reviews (see our policy here: medicalfuturist.com/how-do-we-review-technologies) but if I like something, I say it out loud.

    How is this a review? In what way? Why didn't you show any acquired images, loops, talk about the presets if they include the most common measurements, for a cardiac examination for example. I am sorry, but this is an advertisement...

      You are right about the aspects I could have included in the review, but please check my editorial policy that I never accept payments or sponsorships of any kind: medicalfuturist.com/how-do-we-review-technologies

      @@Medicalfuturist I have to say that it would have been nice to see how the device works, as such the review does not really offer any new information, except your recommendation and enthusiasm, which for me is not relatable, as I'm missing two things: 1. is it as good as a big scanner? Useful? Feasible? 2. Price: is it affordable in any way of meaning of the word, or just the same as as the expensive scanners, just smaller? I have seen rates quotes for 200 dollars, for RENTING it, so I would assume that it still is insanely expensive. I hope we can make some progress by using different methods to bring down transducer prices from Mount Everest to the ground level.

    Hi, Thank you for your informative videos. Would you say Lumify is the best of portable ultrasound devices in the market?

    • @Medicalfuturist
      @Medicalfuturist  6 років тому +5

      There aren't many out there so it's not hard to make a statement like that. Lumify is certainly the best portable ultrasound with a wire. Regarding the wireless ones, I'm testing one now.

    What is the cost in India. Where can I buy

  • @nigratruo
    @nigratruo 4 роки тому +2

    I can't find a price anywhere, is it still incredibly insanely CRAZY expensive, like all other ultrasounds? I'm trying to find a way to saves people's lives by not having to depend on a machine that poor hospitals can't afford. As a computer engineer, this needs a major disruption and a price decrease into the realm of normal.

      Thank you for that! There are details about pricing on the bottom of this page: www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/sites/lumify

      @@Medicalfuturist They never ever quote a price, which feels very odd to me. It is important to know that the medical device market in the USA is the most profitable (meaning, extremely expensive and rip-off) market in the USA, it beats even banking, which is basically printing money. I wish this would change, I know that many people (especially women) die because they don't have access to one of these incredible expensive devices. I hope that Philips is trying to make the world a better place, not just become rich. Because that money in profits is made off the death of people, which is very sad and very unethical. I'm a disruptor and impossible is not a word in my vocabulary and "we can't make this cheaper" also is not an excuse that I accept. So if you have any information about it, pricing wise, I would love to hear it. I'm trying to crack this nut and make these scanners something you can buy on Amazon. Not medical grade of course, but you can save lives without medical grade accuracy, these devices could help a little, even if they are not as precise and certified as medicial grade ones.

      @@nigratruo You can buy them on Amazon and Ebay, you might even find an ultrasound scanner on Craigslist.
