  • My good friend Derek Wong joins me on this conversation. We have an open, frank conversation on our own personal experiences during the past two years coming from San Francisco to Singapore. For those new and nervous coming here, we hope this helps calm any fears and shines some light on what it was like for us Asian Americans adjusting, moving jobs, and finding our place in society.

Have been binging your SG videos! Spent some time wondering when would be a good time to visit SG this year. I loved this video! Very insightful and Derek’s advice at the end of this video was great :)

I spent about 10 years in my younger days living & working overseas, I always encourage young people to do that if they get a chance. I returned here to a teaching job, quit that & started my own business doing what I have been doing while overseas. Preparing for semi- retirement, will likely not fully retire, just cannot see myself just sitting by the beach & enjoying the sun all day.

A few entrepreneur startup programs that are popular here in SG:
      1) www.antler.co
      2) www.joinef.com
      3) sea.500.co
Also, a great gvt resource: www.enterprisesg.gov.sg

Go places when you are young & live like a local (get out from your comfort social circle, you will be amazed). I lived in 湖口, 新竹 for 7 months many years back and enjoyed every bit of it.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
    I've been for a walk on a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.
California dreamin' on such a winter's day

Random question but as an American, would you recommend living in cities in North Carolina like Raleigh, Charlotte and so on? I've heard a lot of good stories about it.

If you like the slower living, small city living then it’ll be a good place! I’d recommend checking it out on google maps. There’s probably less of an Asian population though

@@TheFangGirl It surely sounds nice! And in regards to the Asian population, given how fast Charlotte and Raleigh is growing now I feel that the Asian population will be huge within 10 years I suppose

@@TheFangGirl My objective in life has always been to live life with few regrets, I didn't want to have to say "I wish I did this when I was younger" as I take my last breath. So when I knew what I wanted at 14, it was a relentless drive towards that goal. But now as I'm approaching retirement age, my hope is that I remain as active & engaged, and not end-up like my parents. Both are in their mid- to late-80s, nothing seem to interest them, they either sleep or stare blankly at the tv. They have health issues but refuse to seek medical help, to try to manage their illnesses.
