- This is my first unboxing video, for the brand new 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Codex Seraphinianus by Luigi Serafini. Also making an appearance in this video is the first edition of Codex Seraphinianus from 1981 and a 2013 copy of the book. This is the first, and so far, to my knowledge, only place you can see the deluxe edition of the 40th anniversary Codex Seraphinianus.
I used to write exactly like this as kid and my teacher told me I wasn’t human.
Could have made some money!
Fantastic - thanks so much for sharing! I loved the way you compared all the different editions ❤ Another difference between your deluxe edition and the standard edition is that yours is bound in cloth, which is much nicer and archival than the standard textured paper binding.
I actually wasn’t sure about the binding because they look so similar.
@@BookTimeWithRyan Yes, that's a photographic marketing trick - definitely your deluxe is nicer in that regard!
@@BeautifulBooks I compared my deluxe edition next to the 2013 trade and I can’t see a difference. Are they that close?
A small correction is necessary: with the deluxe edition it is possible to have a reproduction of one of Serafini's last two works attached.
This in video is titled "Metamorphoseon remix" and is dedicated to Ovidio.
The other, not visible in this case, is entitled "Divina Commedia remix" and is dedicated to Dante Alighieri for his 700th anniversary. The poet who guided Dante through Hell and Purgatory was Virgilio and not OvidIo.
@@marileu seems that would also explain the numbering difference between the books (900s) and the reproduction (400s).
Hello. Great review. Do you collect Serafinis work? Which books do you own?
Just the codex Seraphinianus books… the first edition, one from 2013, and this one.
I purchased the 40th edition I had to save a lot to buy it (broke college student) but its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Right? So much too see. They did a good job with it. Even the paper feels quality.
Que bien por ti, haré lo mismo, ahorraré para comprar uno!😊
Does every edition come with the little decodex book I've seen in the back of some?
There wasn’t one with the first edition, but at least for the Rizzoli copies there are.
@@BookTimeWithRyan awesome, thanks man
@@oviraptorking3744 fo sho!
Watch the movie, "Fantastic Planet." If you like the Codex Seraphinianus, you will love the vintage movie, Fantastic Planet. They seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly, milk and cookies, ketchup and ice-cream.
Haha, I’ll check it out. My music choice for this video alludes to acid, I think.
So is there actually a difference between the ~$99-120 version of this book and the one that sells for $256-500? Rizzoli says the deluxe is cloth but it looks the same as the other. The deluxe also has 20 less pages than the standard. Is there a reason to buy this other than the box and print, which hardly justify the 2x price increase unless the book really is cloth.
I contacted Rizzoli about a week or two ago about this and have not heard back, and based on a comment you left here about a year ago, i dont expect to
@@Necrobutcher777 yeah, they’re horrible at responding (aka, they never have).
Outside of the limited print that came with it, I don’t think the deluxe was worth the extra $$ and I can’t tell the difference either. It’s certainly nowhere near the quality of the first edition.
@@BookTimeWithRyandonde puedo comprarlo, estará disponible hoy en día!, Quiero uno!.
Where can we buy the book?
I got the deluxe edition from Barnes and Noble with the 10% discount, but I think you could also find copies on Amazon (especially the trade). The trade copy is well done, and much less expensive.
@@BookTimeWithRyan thank you.
Ryan, I have to honestly say I picked up on notes of disappointment. Are you entirely sure you wouldn't like to a return and refund ? When a book is marketed as special deluxe, it's kind of raises expectations.
Yeah, I don’t want to return it. I was a little disappointed but after thinking more and reading some of the information here, I feel better. Maybe the problem is the trade’s so nice that it’s hard to expect something earth shattering out of a deluxe. I also want to spend more time looking at it.
I think part of the disappointment is because I reached out to Rizolli awhile ago to get information on the deluxe edition and they were unresponsive. Just left a bad taste in my mouth to start.
The book, box, graphic, etc are nice. The lettering on the box shines and the orange adds a nice new color to my bookshelf.
I'm sorry for the stupid question, but this book can not be read in any way?
Not a dumb question! I bought a book no one can read, it is true.
@@BookTimeWithRyan thank you 🙏
If you dont like reading and love acid this is the book for you
Hahahaha… inspired.
Ooooooooh I think I got my first thumbs down!
Dammnn man you made of money?
I only got the 2013 Rizzoli edition and it kinda like drained that bank
Haha, no, but I make enough to enjoy it now and then. I do discuss with my wife before buying a $100 book. A $500 book takes more discussion.
