- NIO's latest offering is more than just a top sports sedan, it’s a sign of fundamental change in the global car market. The ET7 promises a 1000km range from one single charge. It can swap batteries, which is a lot quicker than recharging. Its 648 horsepower can propel it to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds. My son who is based in Hong Kong switched from Tesla to NIO and told me it is the best car he has ever driven.

@@100M2B Aren't you choosing to rent a battery, if im not mistaken the service is called battery as a service. You rent the battery and get the car at a cheaper price point. So switching a battery you never owned for one you also don't own is not that big of a issue.
It could be a five minute battery change ,you might have to wait in line for an hour for your turn to change your batteries like a UA-cam did it In China
10 hrs. Charging time? Total fake news. 15 -20 min. At a V3 SC station. I charge my Tesla S at home modt of the time just plug in at night done by the time you get up. How much time to drive to a Nio swap station and do you have to go out of your way?

If Tesla wants to retain market share, they need to make more affordable and less quirky cars, but they can fare very nicely just on their fan base - a kind of automotive Apple (whose market share outside of US is tiny, but look at their market capitalization.)

Nio has a range of 1000 Km when we measure it according to the NEFZ method. The more interesting part would be how much it is according to WTLP. My guess would be not above 750km.

@@alphaomega1969 I read a book about Lidar. They were looking for ruins in the rainforest, typically the trees hide everything but Lidar showed them what was on the floor of the forest right through the trees. Lidar is very powerful.

Is it really amazing or just a gimmick? Wat if you get a lemon battery and it doesn't preform up to standards? What if the battery doesn't give you a 100% charge, who is responsible then? Also what if there are 10 cars in front of you at the swapping station? You just lost all the advantage (Of time) as they have only sold 75,000 cars and the engineer had three cars in front of him, those lines will soon become much longer.
@@kscipkkkk It is amazing engineering. The replaced battery shouldn't be expected to be at 100%, but around 80-90% is a valid expectation. The rest of your concern is about scale. The more cars you sell, the more you should have plan for such battery swap stations if that is your plan.
Keep in mind, most of the cars charging will take place at home. I have had EV since 2018 and only time we use Superchargers (Tesla) is for long distance travel (150+ miles each way).
I hope the NIO cars are become popular in BELGIUM

Some like the idea of swap out their battery pack and move on within five min, while other prefer several hours of charging while at sleep, either way is fine with me ,when consumers have more choices , it is always a good sign.

The swap is currently more like 10 minutes, and then he just had 3 guys in front of him. That's at least 30 minutes. In that time he could have fast charged 40-50 kwh easily, without sitting in the car waiting for his turn.
@@Psi-Storm The battery swapping is primarily for two types of people/scenarios: people on long road trips, and people with no room in their home to install a charger for overnight charging. For the former, you just have to make sure their is a swap station somewhere on your route. On a 4+ hour drive, waiting 30 mins or so is fine, especially while you all go to the toilet, grab food and a coffee etc. And for the latter, they will not need to swap every day, more like every 3-5 days depending on the length of their commute.

This is very impressive, many companies wanted to avoid battery swapping as they will be serving for free the major service that an EV might need but NIO made a bold move by offering a life time of battery swapping at a small price. Really impressive.
Okay, but how far will some need to travel to those sparse locations? I expect FAR fewer than recharge stations, perhaps one per State?
Nio will be more successful than any other existing or upcoming EV company because it is very customer focused.
Nio rank highest on JD Power Associates Quality survey, so combine with EP9 - the have the fastest, longest range and highest quality vehicles on the market (also quite luxurious)!!

Local brand BYD sold more EV's than Tesla in China in 2020. VW also sold more EV's than Tesla in Europe recently...

I see Nio dominating in China because of the many other revenue streams they will have coming in the future. Nio is building an ecosystem just like Apple. You just cant compare them to VW or BYD. On top of that I believe their battery swap technology will be world wide in 5-10 yeaars, and many other auto manufacturers will pay to use it. I could be wrong but I believe this company will be an absolute giant one day.
@@Roman-re1yg Nio is being hyped right now. They use Tesla patents, have very little innovation of their own, and just trying to emulate Tesla/Apple in China. Yes, Tesla is ahead 10 years yet should improve quality and customer service, which are not that bad. Media tries to make a big deal but Tesla sells every car they make and trying to make tons more. They also make changes as they go so each iteration is better than the last.
NIO has the capacity just like BYD to revolutionize the EV market. Their ingenuity and classy technology is breathtaking with Chinese culture in mind. They need to include English integration in their software such as Nomi...voice controls.

I've been suggesting the swap station concept for years - batteries should have the same form-factor for ALL electric cars. Suddenly I find someone has done it!
Swap stations are a solution for slow charging, what happens when charging becomes much faster? Swap stations become obsolete.
@@odisy64 battery technology is ever improving. Nio owner can just go to the swap station to get an upgrade compare to having to replace the entire car.
@@ZoeCuiM what upgrade? its subscription service you pay 130 dollars for a month. if you want a bigger battery you need to pay a " one time fee" of up to 8,000 dollars for a larger battery pack. battery swaping is not new tech, its old and it was conceptualized because of the low charging speeds of electric cars. as battery technology is "ever improving", ranges and charging speeds will make swap stations a cost Burdon on both the consumer and the owner. the throughput is also another issue.
honestly i would not pay for a service like that, it negates the whole "electricity being cheaper than gasoline" benefit. if you dont drive much it ends up being more costly than gasoline per mile.

@@ZoeCuiM why would anyone buy a whole new car for a small battery update? You act like NIO will release batteries enticing enough for an upgrade every few years. Your still going to have the same cooling and hardware systems so the only real advantage a new battery will bring is range, but what does that matter when supercharging is cheaper, just as fast with more charging locations.
NIO will limit there battery design based on the older cars hardware so the battery cant take full advantage of its advancements unlike something like the 4680 cell which is being integrated as part of the vehicle structure to increase strength and reduce weight.
Can't wait to have one of E7 in UK. Question is how quick NIO can establish their swap stations

I bought 100 NIO for $1.87. Why didn't I buy more?? I almost sold at $50 but I held on hoping for $75.

As a Chinese, I want to say that Nio is not a good enterprise.Battery system comes from Ningde era.Almost everything is outsourced.
If you want to come to China to work in the automotive industry, BYD, Geely, Great Wall Group are preferred.

You can have free battery swapping (6 times per month) no matter you buy or lease the battery.
@@Zhanghuidian You can buy a Nio with the smallest 70 kw and rent the bigger battery 100 kw for 4£ a day when you go on a road trip. Nio allow you to rent a battery from 1 day to as many day as you want. With Nio you are not anchored to the battery that come with your electric vehicle when you bought it. That is a aweaome advantage that every ev buyer will want.

At the early stage of mobile phone development, we used to change the batteries. But anyone do that nowadays?
Cameras still do, and early days phone batteries last for days if not weeks. Plus the main reason for glued on battery is for the slim uni-body look, cars can do that without having the battery glued to the chassis.
The NIO's battery swap strategy is not just to solve the battery degradation over a period of time which will lower the resale value of the car as a result, but also to solve the time wasted charging battery as the swap can be done in 3-5 minutes, and the lack of charging points in dense city environment where majority of the population is living in apartments like in China. Besides, it also helps to lower the upfront cost (at least $7k) of buying the car by subscribing to Battery-as-a-Service.
