I had the entire wolf pack set. Because of the Jack KIrby box art alone.Great ones. But the success of the line owes all it's glory to the Outer space men and Matt Mason.

I was lucky enough to be the right age for these back then. I still wonder if any later generations ended up with these at yard sales never knowing they had a second face/character hidden just a gimmick activation away.
I just assume his Bio was written by the Washington Post. “He’s just a Reserved Scientist (pay no mind to the mountain of deformed mutants or the volcano lair and sharks with laser beams!)”
Only Big Jim stuff I had was the Jet liner/case playset that I used with my Megos and the (sort of) Big Jim Tarzan with the gorilla. Did make a 12 inch GI Joe Adventure Team figure of the PACK Big Jim with the blue turtleneck and white pants.
I absolutely love how Big Jim’s facial expression changes from “having to take a shit” to “really having to take a shit”! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also Zorak totally reminds me of the Marvel villain “The Hood” and I wonder if Zorak inspired the marvel character.
I had this in the 70s as a gift. You lift up the right arm 90 degrees and push down again, press the back and see his face change, if I remembered correctly.
I had a zorak as a kid. Absolutely loved the gorgeous red cape with the chain. So much that i gave the cape to my He-Man figure later on. Which was a perfect fit!
1970's toy-lines (American) , pre-1977, were largely bereft of villains (not counting licensed toy-lines). A guy wearing tennis shorts and a tank top with 'karate chop action' fighting a rabid badger or shark wouldn't cut it for me.
I always like the PACK Big Jim line. Zorack was great. But that face changing Big Jim himself was the stuff of nightmares. The whole “his face spins, but his really bad hair stays” just screamed “bad gimmick” to even the most loyalist of young Big Jim kids. At a time when the larger Action Figure toys were loaded with cool gimmicks. Like Steve Austin’s bionics, and his eye. Or GI Joe’s Kung Fu grip or less impressive Eagle Eyes, heck even GI Joe had the Atomic Man $6 million man ripoff with the cool spinning arm copter, and the light piping eye. The “Exorcist Demon Possessed Big Jim” was just awful compared to them.
I was heavy into Big Jim. Had all 4 of the original line, plus a motorcycle, fishing boat, camping stuff... All the outdoor stuff. Also had Dr. Steel and The Whip. I loved the Whip. The bolos worked pretty well. I was all in on action figures as a kid, Action Jackson, GI Joe, Mego Super Heros, Big Jim, Evel Kneivel, Fisher Price Adventure People, even that line of 12" hard plastic cowboys and Indians. My mom would arm sweep that stuff off garage sale tables and bring them home.
Torpedo fist was my favorite. My face changing Jim always got stuck in between faces 😂 I had the cool rubber powered hood flipper lazer vette. I really loved the art work in the comic book that came with Big Jim. Neat story of how he formed the wolf pack.
I actually had the Big Jim figure shown here as a child in the seventies, and somehow didn't make the connection between this and the other Big Jim figures and playsets I had earlier in the decade. I guess it just seemed incongrous with the previous generation's more adventure oriented theme. I can still hear the ratcheting noise his arm made in my head.
I have Zorak, Dr. Steel, and Torpedo Fist, but not complete, so I have them in early Big Jim clothes. I also have the ugly face-changing Big Jim, but the 1980's version called Agent 004. I've seen several different versions of this figure. I also managed to find Captain Flint, with the great hair and shooting arm.
I never liked Grumpy Hippy Big Jim, however I did have The Original P.A.C.K. team the camper pickup truck mobile base, and the Dirt Bike. No Big Jim Villians and no Big Jim Sportsman era stuff. My Friend Todd Snyder had most of the Big Jim Sports sets and out fits including all of the water sports, & the Dojo. WE shared our toys and it was fun nothing got torn or broke we were good guys.
I was big into Big Jim line as a single digit kid, getting my first Jim Christmas 72 or 73. By 76 I was 10 and told I was too old for that kiddie stuff, so no PACK of or me, even though my neighbor friend same age got dr steel and zorak, and the laser car. But I did get the huge Space 1999 Eagle ship in 76 I believe, plus switched to Micronauts 😜
I had Zorak as a kid as well as Torpedo fist. and I have them today as a few years ago I found both a Zorak and a Torpedo fist at Goodwill.. Zorak didn't have his cape so I made him one.
Cool to hear who invented that face change action idea, I've enjoyed it on all the toys I've seen it in and glad they still make toys with it like the Hasbro Mighty Muggz. :D
An interesting toy line but since my fav's were Six Million Dollar Man and Gi Joe Adventure Team these little guys were just too small to be appealing. I guess I am still a 70s kid who likes their action figures 11 inches or taller.
I want to ask if anyone remembers there being a toy line for Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger in 1977..I remember that there was, and really wanting them at 7 years old. I believe it might have been a certain store exclusive..possibly? I don’t what store I saw them in.
I am absolutely loving this channel. I was born in '74, so this is before my time, but I HAVE to find a way to get my hands on Double Trouble Big Jim. I am a big fan of face-changing figures (particularly Man-E-Faces and Zartan), an the package art is just amazing. Any possible leads on sources for obtaining this figure? Nothing on eBay at this time, but I also don't want to break the bank for it.
Those were my last three big Jim’s… I got it along with the laservette, The vette Was pre-determined to be the Batmobile for my Mego Batman and robin... This was the Christmas that my mom was over the whole Santa Claus thing and literally loud me to pick buy presents for the most part before Christmas those are what I picked out along with the Waltons truck and Kojak because it just happened to be at the PX where we shopped that year. I did not have a lot of choices and I was strictly into action figures and nothing else. I knew the big Jim was questionable because I did not like the way the head hair the whole thing looked... I thought the concept was neat But I hated it the second it was out of box. I couldn’t get over the playability of having his little head shake underneath his hair kind a reminded me of my grandfather who had Parkinson’s it just was not the figure for me. Another great episode Brian....
I guess even if i was trapped inside a collapsed mine until i escaped from there i would have a green deformed face like zorak over there! And maybe even worst from my anger mostly, from my problems lately i might take a villains path even without being in a mine trying to escape who knows!
I have this figure but his face won’t spin, something about twisting his arm? How does his mechanism work? If I spin his arm around his face rotates but then what’s his button on his back for?
My favorite toys of ALL TIMES. They were not that durable. The legs would break.😢 No Zorak but a few Big Jim's. The illustration helped sell the toy. Kirby wad the best.
This toy line would be the best for DC Comics to pick up. They could have at least to the characters connected to those from the suicide squad. Plus do the big Jim's pack what Spider man and his amazing friends along with Batman the animated series did for fire star and Harley Quinn.

That kirby box art is gorgeous..id love to just collect zorak and his varients, the skull face is so awesome
The Skull face is so cool, I wish it would have been the normal Zorak face.

That Skull/Skeleton version is great looking!
Yeah it's a fave of mine.
That is pretty much Skeletor from he-man.
I also remember the face change feature on a Princess of Power figure named "Double Trouble"
Oh wow, I didn't know that.

Yeah!! I had this figure plus the torpedo fist and the regular Jim with the camping truck Those were the days
I always wondered if Zorak, with his brown hood and ability to change his appearance, didn't spawn three children - Zartan, Zandar and Zarana.
I almost mentioned Zartan in this episode but decided against it.
He-man copied this gimmick with Man-e- faces.

Yeah that's what makes Zorak a bit of a pioneer toy wise.
@@BrickMantooth Why no villains? From a marketing perspective it makes no sense. What crime are the heroes supposed to fight?
Never did see any Big Jim toys in the UK. Usually a line would be re branded over here if successful elsewhere.
It was called Marc Strong in the UK, even had a weekly comic strip. It was short lived.
