I worked in China between 1998-2016, and now living a semi-retired life in ChongQing. During my 25 years stay in China, I have the privilege to witness one of the greatest developments in human history. The CPC has been a foresighted, responsible and competent government. Sure, from time to time they make mistakes, but rarely I see them repeat the same mistakes.
The CCP's strict supervision of themselves may be incredible in the West. The lightest punishment for CCP officials to make mistakes is to dismissal and go to jail, and the heaviest can be sentenced to death. Because the laws within the party do not explain the opportunity to make mistakes, it is impossible to blame or pull the skin.@@border1185
@@border1185 In the West, you can change political parties but they won't change the policies. In China, you can't change the political party, but the party does change their policies. Paraphrased from Eric Li. Chinese Venture Capitalist. UC Berkeley graduate.
China, even in 2007/8/9...was still somewhat backward. It took off really, in the early 2010's. Maybe a couple/few years before US's pivot to Asia. The 2008 Beijing Olympics was the beginning, but that was moreless mainly in Beijing...the rest took a few more years😊
Well well. In the US the so called democracy of the western world has a so called "democracy". Let's see what I meant. In a democracy the ordinary people has the right to exercise the voting power every so many years. In the US that's every 4 years. There are 2 main political parties - the Democrats and the Republicans. So that is the choice. BUT whoever the people voted in, makes no difference to the country. Their policies are the same. Why? Because whoever the people voted for to lead the government, it is the Deep State Government that will run the country. The Republicans are on the Head of the coin while the Democrats are on the tail side. This US coin is minted and owned by the US Federal Reserve Banks who together with the largest Wall Street banks, the Military Industrial Complex, large pharmaceutical companies and huge conglomerates form the US Deep State government. So for the people in the western world to think they have the power is just a con job, a pie in the sky dream. For the US it is ---- " the government of the 1%, by the 1% and for the 1%" of the US population. Poor Abraham Lincoln. He turned in his grave long time ago.
Welcome to China! I'm a Canadian doing my PhD in engineering in China. It still astounds me how insanely advanced China is, it's no wonder why China is such a hotspot on the Western radar.
Hi. Im also a Canadian considering to do a PhD in China. Is it necessary to speak fluently in mandarin to be admitted/study in universities? I have so many questions!
Chinese spoken language and listening are not difficult, because there is almost no grammar in Chinese. You just say you don't have to worry about grammar errors. The difficulty of Chinese in Chinese is writing and reading@@billysavoie634
@@billysavoie634 depends on the program offered by the university! Some programs offer courses in all English for international students, meaning you don't need to know Chinese but will have to take Chinese courses during your PhD. Other programs offer a full year of Chinese courses before your PhD formally start so you can enter with zero Chinese. Then there are those unis that teach most of their grad courses in Chinese and you'll need an HSK 4 (for STEM) or HSK 5 (for all others) as an admission requirement.
I'm an American who lived in China for 9 years. Loved it. I enjoyed the safety, the easy access affordable health care, great infrastructure, and endless opportunities. You're going to have a great life.
The world is beating a path to China. It is not just the place to do business but to live. Congratulations Ben. Moving to China will bring you much joy.
I read an article yesterday which said western capitalists are withdrawing from China which is good news for China. Can't see the West lasting long without cheap labour and cheap Russian oil and gas lol
''Is China the most sovereign country on Earth?'' As a Chinese, my answer is a definite yes. But if the Western powers haven't been so aggressive towards China since recent past, it probably wouldn't be. And also, in terms of retaining its unique cultural identity China has definitely done well, I hope it will be kept this way by future generations.
Yea, the classic "a bad thing can become a good thing, if your patient" Happy China remembers how they've been raped economically, and literally so many times. Hope they remember the lessons and never trust the West with their internal affairs. Learned Jack Ma just return from planting bamboo (or another plant) in the West. Hope it gave him a little humility, and appreciation.
A country that no big money or cooperate can control the politics, where if the government want to print money, it does not have to pay interest to a privately owned central bank using blood money from tax payers that have no means to evade tax like almost all other "democratic" countries.
I totally agree! The aggressive behavior of Western nations has been the greatest motivator for very intelligent nations to produce what they consume and (mostly) consume what they produce. China exports a lot, but has a massive local market that allows it to absorb some of its own local production! That's the reason, I truly believe the alliance China, Russia, Iran is the most powerful EVER. All 3 nations have the same strategy of FULL sovereignty!
It is not always bad: sanctions and aggressive policies make countries or sovereign place or slaves. :) Russia is self-sufficient thanks to sanctions. Hard life makes strong men :)
@@walkerpublications4418 The “mistress culture” in China is no worse than in “monogamous” Judeo-Christian nations. In fact, the “healthy fear and respect for one’s wife” culture is much more mainstream in China since the communist takeover. Everything these days in China is super user friendly and everything is accessible to common people, more democratic than those so called democratic countries. I must have traveled to China over 100 times and never once encounter any spying or surveillance issues, even in Xinjiang.
Hi Ben, I watch your video to the end, and based on my personal experience of living and doing business in China for the last 20 years, I can confidently say that if western society has the same perspective of viewing China as you do, the entire world would had been able to enjoy peace prosperity and progress, instead of the unpredictable situation of today due to warmongering maniacs having the ambitions of dominating humanity. Once again thank you for sharing your ideas that will help many people to accept the reality that China is indeed contributing to a better world.
Your analysis about China is so deep and accurate, thank you sincerely for doing this. As a Chinese lived in Europe for almost 10 years I couldn’t bear with the double standards and hypocrisy of western politicians, so I followed my heart and returned home last August and I am so happy I did, the quality of life is better and I am so positive about the future, hope you have great time here too ❤

I am genuinely impressed by the depth and clarity that Ben brought to his video, "A look inside China: Is this the most sovereign country on Earth?" This comprehensive analysis not only dispels the often skewed and negative portrayal of China in the Western media but also provides a nuanced understanding of the decisions made by the Chinese government. Ben skillfully navigates through the complex issues surrounding China, addressing the bans on platforms like Google, UA-cam, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. His articulate explanation sheds light on the motivations behind these decisions, going beyond the surface-level narratives that are all too common in mainstream media. It's refreshing to see someone take the time to unravel the complexities and present a more balanced perspective. The video not only challenges misconceptions but encourages viewers to question the prevailing narratives and seek a deeper understanding of China's unique socio-political landscape. The thorough research and thoughtful presentation are commendable, making this piece a standout contribution to fostering global understanding. In a world often polarized by misinformation, Ben's work serves as a beacon of truth-seeking journalism. The dedication to presenting the real China, free from biased lenses, is something that should be applauded. I sincerely hope that more content creators take inspiration from this approach, promoting dialogue and cooperation between cultures. Congratulations to Ben for producing such an exceptional and illuminating piece of work. It's a reminder that, in our interconnected world, it's crucial to approach information with an open mind and a willingness to explore beyond preconceived notions. Here's to more content that challenges us to think critically and fosters a more informed global community! 👏🌐🔍
Is not "biased lens" what China's government doing in banning the social platforms like Google, Facebook, UA-cam and the others you mentioned? A one political party controlling the public narrative. Political descent beware!
Bravo! Ben. Unlike most sub-standard Chinese experts from the US and the Western worlds, who are illiterate in Chinese, spend no or very little time in China, yet have the audacity to self claim to be an Chinese expert, you plant your feet on the ground in the real world, learn the language, learn about its culture, people and systems etc. Your experiences lend more credence to your perspectives and opinions. As an eloquent English native speaker, you can better explain the Chinese systems to the English dominant media and audience. I admire and salute your efforts. Best of luck in your journey. I look forward to more reporting and analysis from you.
You don't have to live in China or speak Chinese to see what they do on the world stage. They would have to know those things to understand what is happening in China itself.
There is a German expert named Adrian Zenz who concocted the story of genocide about Xinjiang, even though he has never been to Xinjiang. Then the story of the genocide in Xinjiang was hyped in the Western media😢
Some antichinese people say that life expectancy figures are not true because they aren't controlled by independent agencies. Could someone argue that?
@@Andy-Pif you never lived in China and speak Chinese you can’t explain why things happened in China. That’s the problem of those so called Chinese experts. Even if they quoted correct data they pointed to wrong reasons.
A big round of applause for hitting the nail on the head, which is China gaining and maintaining sovereignty in all its aspects. This has been arduously achieved since the hundred years of humiliation started, culminating in the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949. The Communist Party has been the driving force in all of this, whose founder Mao has been so much vilified in the West to this day. In contrast, the majority of Chinese people regard him as their great savior and teacher. Their current leader Xi is carrying this vision to the rest of the world under the banner of “a community with a shared future for mankind” and through the Belt and Road Initiative. It’s time for the people around the world to rise and say yes to sovereignty and no to all forms of monopoly and colonization. China is leading the way.
Mao made some major mistakes--The Great Leap Forward; The Cultural Revolution; Kill the Sparrows all did significant damage to China and the Chinese people, so he's not above criticism. What many Westerners are unable to do is to see the complexities in people. Westerners are so whetted to the good-evil binary w/ no consideration for the shades of grey and complexities. The West is also whetted to the cult of personality and singling out one personality on which to focus the self serving narrative w/ the objective of imposing collective punishment or control (see Putin and Russia). So, yes, Mao helped liberate China along w/ the other leaders of the Long March and founders of the Communist Party, they all helped contribute to positioning China to re-establish its political sovereignty to then build on its holistic sovereignty.
Great country is built by human beings, not by political theory. What is the use of having a Fed that can print fiat money any time it pleases but cannot solve a burgeoning national debt? In theory the Fed is supposed to manage the nation's economic health properly and not to cause it to run away uncontrolled by the politicians,. Theory is great only if the human being can apply it properly. A government can function properly if and only if there is no money politics is involved.
If China does not distort history. The person worth mentioning in the history of china from my personal view is The small man Deng Xiao Ping and the current Mr Xi.
My dad went back to China last year for a short vacation and encountered a ticket system issue on a bus (he accidentally inserted coin into a ticket slot) due to the poor instruction and he decided to call the support line. He immediately got a call back from the hotline, got an apology, and a promise to fix the problem. Boom, 4 days later, he found that they put a Big Printed Sign next to the ticket system emphasizing the instruction. He then got another call from the hotline from another person just to check if he was satisfied with the improvement. This is what China is turning into, guys. Compared to the US "I don't give a damn about your shit so suck it up", this is what's happening in China right now. We need some reflection here.

A warm and big welcome to your move to China Ben. Your shows are brilliant and certainly among the best I've seen: very detailed analytical, original, very ample substantiations... just great (especially enjoyed your episode about the US dropping atomic bombs in Japan being unnecessary). China has been a country so unfairly portrayed by the collective west as evil. China is now rising simultaneously with a major claim to legitimacy, against all the badmouthing, fake news, and defamation. This is hard work against the prevailing Western propaganda that seriously distorted our world. Please keep up the good work and combat in this intense cognitive war against the evil propaganda to bring back genuiine global justice. All best greetings from Hong Kong, J.
When a country is oppressed again and again, this nation receives God's blessing for its patience, courage and neutrality in the world (no foreign elections and foreign internal affairs meddling, wars for fake noble causes such as freedom, Human Rights, democracy, and blah, blah, blah). That's why China rises in all fields, unlike the bully countries, starting with the U.S., who are falling apart slowly but surely. It's also God's will to chastise the wicked nations.
you have to be careful about trade numbers. chinese buy far far more american goods than vice versa. gm, tesla, apple, deere, mcd, kfc, etc. in a sense, we have off shored our exports. this is only true for china. also listen to eric li. china is moving up the chain in value added manufacturing and off shoring some of its lower end to vn , mex and india.

Even though China has its own internet (information/social) platforms, the Chinese have good understandings of the West and the rest of the world, the only ''down side'' is many have no idea how anti China Western media is... Chinese own media follows government policy, no malicious lies, smears, spins and sensationalising and no deliberate misinformation, just neutral statements of facts when it comes to reporting about the US/West.

As someone who has studied China for more than 40 years, I can say your clear summary of the policies China has successfully followed on the path to development are right on. I'm sure this new endeavor will de very enriching and fruitful. Looking forward to your future videos.
I travelled to China during its big pivot, in early 2000s, and I will never forget it. Seeing the rickshaws and BMWs side by side, the fervour and energy of the people, the hope and kindness, the belief in a future for their children, and obviously the technological and social developments... like the Shanghai housing that tore down all these old apartment blocks and shanty towns to build up a bunch of gorgeous balconey'd apartments, critically: moving the poor in the shanty towns INTO the expensive apartments newly built FOR THEM. .... I remember the expats and their hubris, arrogance, condescending perspective of 'these monkeys grubbing around for our dollars'. The West has corrupted itself financially, politically, and even spiritually ever since then. Meanwhile, China maintains a long term perspective where it's a bright future full of ambition, better quality of life and growth. I've been wanting to go back and visit China... this video is certainly urging me to do so, sooner rather than later.
''The West has corrupted itself financially, politically, and even spiritually ever since then.'' Yep, due to this hubris, arrogance, condescending perspective which has not changed one bit all this time...
I, too, enjoyed your account of China in the early 2000s. I hope you'll make the trip back. In the meanwhile... if you're not familiar with these two UA-cam channels: Katherine's Journey to the East and Our Chinese Life, do check them out. 🕊☯
Spot on with the hubris of Westerners living in Shanghai. They are as welcome as the British in colonial India. The Chinese is just too nice to run them out.
Wow, I’m watching the video as I type this comment. Never expected that you would actually move to China, awesome move! Hope you genuinely enjoy your time in China and learn a lot during your phd studies.
I really enjoyed this presentation. As an African, I dream of the potential Africa has (the vast land mass, internal market size, natural resources, & human resources) to mirror China's model & become even better. But there are 2 problems... 1. Western economic stranglehold by clandestine policies of the WTO, World Bank, & IMF that stop African industrialization. 2. Fragmentation into 54 sovereign governments that are individually weak, but not willing to collapse into one nation. This lack of political will is also complicated by the vast ethnic diversity that's not easy to galvanize. Thankfully, the youth think differently.
I believe tribalism is what's keeping african nations to remain divided and conflicted. Tribes should learn to tolerate and cooperate with each other so their nations can go ahead with its development. They should be more loyal to their country rather than their tribes.
Even the CCP officials have repeatedly said that their model cannot be replicated anywhere else. That it works well in China, but only in China. Other countries must find their own paths. So take China and their accomplishments as inspiration. Not as a model. Take them as an inspiration that a non-Western country can also developed on their own path. Without having to bend down to Western domination.
@@johnyossarian9059 That is why I gave a disclaimer. The Chinese model is beautiful, but only for China. Africa has added layers of complexity that the Chinese don't have. So all we can do is learn from China and develop our own model. But you must admit that whatever the Chinese are doing is worth admiring.
@@fannyalbi9040 If you peel through the layers of corruption in Africa you will see the face of Western governments on the other end holding the puppet strings to the WTO, World Bank, and IMF. It's all by design. And at the core is the insatiable greed of the West for African resources. They want access to our resources for very cheap (under corrupt governments) or for free (under warfare).
This is the most insightful Western analysis of Chinese politics I have ever seen. As a Chinese, I always find it ridiculous when I see so-called china experts wildly talking about how the CCP rules China, or about China's desire to dominate the world. Only realizing the importance of "sovereign independence" , you truly understand the core of Chinese politics. I really admire your wonderful analysis
Ben, one point to clarify with your excellent summary: US tech companies exit China primarily because they couldn't compete with local businesses (e.g. eBay, Amazon, Uber, PayPal, Groupon, etc) or because they refuse to follow Chinese laws (e.g. Google, Meta, etc). It's actually not Chinese government industrial policies that prevent their presence but rather the local competitors are too good for these US monopolies.
This involves sovereignty. The Chinese government is only asking these companies to keep the Chinese data within China, but the US government is asking these companies to transmit the data back to the US so that the CIA can use the data to control China.
I heard that FB refused to let China into their messagings to help the fight against Uyghur Terrorism which was very serious back in early 2000s. Meanwhile, as it was revealed later by Snowdon, FB was more than happy to cooperate with NSA or with the Democrats during the Biden election.

I’ve been born in Germany. I grew up influenced by the media about China which has led me to be ashamed and appalled by China bc I believed in that authoritarian dystopian narrative. It’s only after noticing how the mass media reported on Gaza and Israel, I had the courage to look into the anti-China news as well. It was an interesting research journey. It felt like loosing an identity and I couldn’t believe that western media was in fact not objective or neutral. All of the things I have realized have been summarized amazingly in this video. I have planned on collecting all my evidence myself and report it to people. But luckily I have found ur video and channel now. I can happily share this video then, as I know that everything you’ve mentioned is factually correct.
It's good that the so distorted western report on Gaza and Israel has really opened the eyes and waken a lot of people up. Hope that more people have woken up from the so distorted and fake report on Gaza and Isreal and realize that all the bad things they have heard about China from the west is not true.
even better, take a fly and see with your own eyes. as a fellow European(Romania) i have no doubt that for us in Europe China its the right partner that will help us become more independent. ATM we are tied to US and have to do all they decide for us. It is exactly the opposite of what media shows. ITs a modern super tech savy country that has very effective government.
It’s kind of frightening, isn’t it? That moment when everything clicks and what was seen can’t be unseen. I saw it during the start of covid when our government gave away $7 trillion to billionaires but many non-essential companies kept working then the gov gave them immunity from liability if a worker died from covid and the company didn’t give proper PPE. If you’re a reader and get the chance check out General Smedley Butler’s War Is a Racket, Michael Parenti’s Blackshirts and Reds, and Howard Zinn’s A Peoples History of the United States.
Good on you! The saddest part is how long this narrative has been going for. Since the Bolschevic Revolution, this has been western fear mongering and false narrative. It is a testament to how western elites are shit scared of losing their status quo on the west, and the absolute effectiveness of the narrative at brain washing the working class against their own interests.
Four years ago, we made a life-changing decision. We left the familiarity of the West, a place we once called home, and embarked on a journey towards the East, towards China. We believed that the West was the past and China was the future. We yearned for a society where unity and collective progress were valued over individualism, where the common good was not overshadowed by personal gain. We were disillusioned by the western ideals of “democracy and freedoms” which, in our experience, often led to selfishness becoming the social norm. We wanted more for ourselves and for future generations of our family. So, we made the bold decision to become Chinese citizens. Life in China has been good, secure, and convenient. People here work not only for their personal advancement but also for the progress of their country. We wanted to be part of this collective effort, to contribute to the country’s growth while enjoying the fruits of its security and affluence. Our family couldn’t be happier in this modern, dynamic country. Every day, we are reminded that we made the right choice. We are proud to call China our home and excited about what the future holds for us here.
@@财经小辣椒 Yes indeed, and I am also trying to spend generously for the well being of my family, which also contributes to the country's internal consumption. Let me tell you a little thing about my hometown in China.Maybe you can experience a small part of Chinese life. Four months ago (6/2023), Nanning City introduced new parking price standards. it was resulted some people's parking fees over 100 CNY (around 15 USD) per a day. This incident spread quickly in the Chinese media. Two weeks later, higher-level governments heard about the incident and put pressure on the Nanning city government. The Nanning city government quickly canceled this unreasonable policy and immediately launched an investigation into the officials involved in the incident. Another week later, the mayor of Nanning publicly apologized at a press conference, and 7 government officials were lost their jobs. From that day the highest parking fee in Nanning City is 50 CNY (around 7.5 USD) per a day ,first half hour and 8pm-8am is free. In just 3 weeks, the government made the most reasonable price. 7 government officials lost their jobs who make the unreasonable prices. i'm not kidding,THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN ALL THE TIME IN CHINA Things happen ->People are angry -> Government hears ->Government changes quickly ->Government officials are censored ->Incident resolved->99% people get happy after 21 days later This is true Chinese democracy. 51% beat the other 49%, and the 49% had to wait another 8 years. This is not democracy chinese want.
Very thorough and comprehensive viewpoint on China's sovereignty Ben. I enjoyed watching this. Also, I would like to live in China one day. No crime and easy going life. Elderly exercising and socialising with friends, lots of green parks, etc.
My friend, there is no utopia in any country. Though China is generally a safer country now, it does not mean there is no crime. Neither is life as easy for everyone. But the Chinese people are resilient and hardworking. One could not help admiring their perseverance and adaptability.

30:39 China was forced to create its own geo-location system when the US randomly decided in 1993 that a Chinese cargo ship (Yinhe) was carrying chemical weapons to Iran and cut-off their access to GPS. The US also forced surrounding middle eastern countries to refuse docking rights to the ship, so it was stranded at sea for 24 days, and the sailors almost starved to death. The US issued no apology, but instead blamed China for its own mistakes. Business as usual 🙄
In my opinion a country must have digital, energy and food sovereignty, otherwise is a dependent country like my homeland Brazil. China is overcoming all challenges making imperialist countries (namely USA) very fragile and angry. Excellent video and success Ben Greetings from Brazil

US can rule our world for next century. rule means it can do whatever it want.
I’m so sad… Brazil has a very large amount of the land for farming…but still many people are starving, since the major agriculture companies in Brazil are all Americans…
@@Dongdong-xg3rm Yes you're right. Here in Brazil should have a fair agrarian reform like in China in 1949. It's never happened due the handful landlords (international groups like Cargil, Dreyfus, Bunge Wilmar) that holds large amount of lands producing monocultures. Small farmers doesn't have their own land to produce and the lawmakers want to discriminate social movements like (MST) who defends agrarian reform. So sad indeed.

I’ve lived in the US all my life but have yet to find the democracy and freedom of speech that the US brags about to other countries on a daily basis! In fact, every time I tell the dirty truth about the US all the US media blocked my comments and gave me a stern warning to not leave such a bad comment about the US again! Some freedom of speech and democracy that is, eh?
I cried a few times over the span of this deeply humane and profoundly comprehensive analysis, especially when you acknowledged the horrendous invasions and colonization of China conducted by the extended West Imperialist war machines merely a century ago. The majority people from the West that I’ve encountered either were not even aware of this portion of world history, or that they simply shrugged it off. Some British aristocrat even had the audacity to accuse Chinese for remembering the atrocious war crimes that the British Empire has done to China, saying that China shouldn’t have kept the summer palace in the form of ruins, for it will inform the future generation of what really happened. The sheer malignant intent and blatant selfishness, I can’t…he was not even a bit ashamed of what he said! We’re not looking for revenge, we keep the ruins simply to remind ourselves to never be slaughtered and burned down and humiliated and robbed by any foreign power ever again, and that is not allowed? That’s why I find your honesty and introspection so rare and precious. It takes real courage and decency to say what you’ve said in this analysis, and for that you have my utmost respect. One other part that brought me to tears was when you talked about Venezuela and all other horrendously exploited and suppressed South American countries. Every country on this planet deserves to be a country of their own, this is a basic fact that so many in the West, especially the ones that have been sucking the sweet sweet colonization juice for centuries just oh so conveniently overlook. I feel for these African and South American countries deeply, and it’s so soul-healing to hear someone else say it out loud to the world. Only people who are truly able to empathize have the opportunity to see the world as what it really is, objectively, from all angles. This is such an unusual gift and I’m so glad that I stumbled upon your channel today. Wishing you the best of luck studying and living in China! Be aware of the Neoliberalism indoctrinated CIA mouthpieces that are lurking in many social science majors in Chinese universities tho, and of course the nefarious US government funded NGOs LMAO. Other than that, enjoy your time in China, if there’s anything I could be of help don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m just a normal concerned citizen of the planet, but I’ll do all that I can for a kind hearted friend like you. Hopefully our paths will cross soon in the future!

As Chinese, we never deny the help and technological assistance we recieved from the west in the process of development. But we are also aware that a large part of those assistance, both from the foreign governments and from the corporate, are out of the consideration of making profits. Just consider the money the western companies made from selling planes, cars, all kinds of machines, softwares...most of the money we use to buy this were earned by decades of hard working in factories, farms and other low-end production sections. I remember Xi mentioned the number of shirts we have to sell to buy an plane from boeing. The west coorperate with us because of the low-cost labor and huge market. It is of great absurdity that most of the world population has been delibarately made to believe the fake news about China for a long time and kept in dirty blindness of ill intended propaganda against a concrete example of human development Chinese progress within a short 70 years of incredible dignity. No any country has been in position to do that other thann China. China has had four illigal criminal European invesions and occupations for the lust to loot and misuse in the last three centuries, from Germans, French, English, Japanese and presently Americans are intending to stretch and block the Chinese advancement. Inspite of all their illinteded causes China did not surrender and circcumber to their evil goals. It is unfortunate that the western hegemony of imperial quest to cheat and unfaithfulness is still being imposed on the rest of the entire western world and kept imperially enslaved. Look at the instability it is causing now it central Europe, Africa and Central and South America immigration. The big masses of migrants and immigration is as matter of result imperial exploitation through denial of economic soveignity which has hindered real human development. Sovereignty is one of the keys to China's economic success. It enable this country to retain most of the benefits of its economy growth to itself to generate further growth, instead of largely being taken away by foreign companies. It also enable this country to defend itself well during trade war, technology war and even a hot war.

You're just an amazing guy, Ben. Taking this bold step to live and learn more about China and correcting the Western narratives is a big step from saving the world from the Western War Mongers. Welldone for the great content.
This video itself could be the basis of a very good thesis. I can't agree you more on your view of China. I was born in China in the 70s, and lived in Europe and America for over 15 years before moving back to China. I have experienced the entire opening up and reforming of China in the last 4 decades. With the comparison of Western government, I can clearly see a more ambitious, effective and capable government in China, that protects its people well.
This video has been very informative. Yes lobbyists are legal in western countries, but not in China. Think they've learned from our mistakes. I appreciate your work.
@@lawrance6540 China allows both casinos and prostitution in Macao, along with prostitution in Hong Kong. China doesn't really need lobbyists when they survey the people directly.
Macau and HongKong are under the ‘ one country two policy’ system. As historically Macau n HK were under long periods colonial culture which gambling and prostitution were legal. Policies for Macau n HK are interim( eg for 50 years). Those will be changed gradually towards to the rest of the nation.
@@yonanyonan While it's likely that China stamps out vices in Hong Kong, I suspect that Macau will continue to have legalized gambling and quasi-legalized prostitution for the indefinite future. Macau exists as a "relief valve" for vices that are not acceptable in the greater mainland. If China were to clamp hard on gambling and prostitution in both HK and Macau, they'd end up having to deal with an groundswell of underground gambling and prostitution which are more exploitative and harder to deal with. So keep it legal in Macau, where the government can more easily manage things.
I am impressed with your clear delivery and mostly correct description of China. Just want to point out Qing dynasty was definitely not a feudal state, China has long been a centralized empire and not a decentralized feudal state. Second point about blocking US social media was not about protecting local techs, but mainly because of Xinjiang riot back in the days when Facebook and Google was still allowed in China, which we now knew was the tools for inciting color revolution around the world with biased targeted “news”, as FB and google refused to work with Chinese government they were eventually kicked out
Dear Alfeeman, as a Chinese and according to our history books, we do consider Qing Dynasty as a feudal dynasty, and it was the last one which ended at 1912, with about 276 years history. It had centralised empire power , and enjoyed tributes from vassal states like Mongolia,Korea, Vietnam, Siam etc at that time. Within Qing, land were owned by lords, and can be inherited by their descendants. Landlords had right to allocate the resources of their land with their own will, but they had to pay taxes to central government. This system is different to the western feudalism, but in Chinese history, we do consider Qing as part of it. Qing had the same structure of power which was passed down from Qin dynasty over 2000 years. We consider this period as feudalism yet with centralised power.
To understand China properly you must understand Chinese history, culture and its civilization. China has the most hardworking people, chinese cares about family values, pay attention to education, respect other people, they always try to avoid offending others. China adheres to Mutual Respect, Peaceful Coexistence and Win-Win Cooperation.

I have to comment on this excellent video. This is one of the best video in this channel. Despite having stayed in China for 21 years, I am still learning a few things from this video, mainly how the pieces are constructed to form the basis of national sovereignty. I hope Ben will discover more about how chinese people and its leaders thinks which is quite different from the west. China is a good place as a base for non-western aligned journalist as it is safe, comfortable and is a nexus of information where new ideas and tech are exchanged and developed. The downside is the gov is very strict on publishing content in Chinese internet space, but most just get censored instead of being arrested, deported or harmed. Just as long as the content does not incite an uprising movement against the gov it will be no problem. Getting around or getting used to minor censorship is not a big problem.

There is one lesson to be leaned by westerners when living in China. China practices Confucius teaching which advocates harmonious living and not confrontational behavior which is practiced in the US and the West. The Chinese people revere the head of government ( In the past the Emperor) who is supposed to look after the well being of all the people and therefore not to be subject to criticism by anyone to cause civil disturbance. In the past, the people can write to the Emperor to suggest improvements but not to write to criticize him. Confrontational behavior is not tolerated in Chinese culture. In the US , anyone can criticize the President every day and is acceptable. You can call Joe Biden as being senile and is acceptable., but you cannot do the same in China not because of human rights issue but because you show disrespect to the leader of the country and you can cause social unrest and affect social harmony. All the American companies abide by Chinese laws and social behavior for many years and happily making good fortune without causing social unrest. Ask Apple company why it makes so many iPhone in China for so many years and not wanting to move out until the US government pressures it to dis-couple from China. The Chinese government does not censor anyone as long as he does not criticize the government from his own perspective or on behalf of a foreign country.. You don't go and visit your friend;s house and start to criticize his wife being ugly or his children being stupid or his grand father being senile, do you? Why not criticize as it is your human rights?
As we all know, the United States has a habit of inciting riots and even subverting the regimes of other countries through "freedom of speech", and China has to be on its guard. A secure and stable social environment is also an important factor in China's rapid economic development.
@@michaelloong964 Would you practice "harmonious living" when you saw the government mistreating people? In other words, would you act SELFISHLY, to save your own skin, and let your neighbor be ruined, without saying a word? The original concept of "free speech" came from the religious struggle of the reformation in Europe. At that time, the Papacy (Roman Catholicism) ruled in the religous realm, and had alliances with the state powers. Any who spoke up to reform the evils of the church were considered enemies, and were oppressed and suppressed. Yet the church, and the kings at that time, were often guilty of gross sins, and abuse of the lower classes. You are assuming that every protest against government is illegitimate, but if government is oppressing and abusing people, the people need to protest, even if it means just not cooperating peacefully with commands that compel you to harm your neighbor. You simply have no concept that a government with unlimited power could actually do evil things! How naive! Have you read no history?

Most Chinese love foreign products. So there’s no prejudice or bias against American goods in favor of local brands. What it hates and cannot tolerate is being bullied by foreigners. If you sanction them, then they will prove to you they don’t need you. They’re capable of suffering and starving themselves instead of submitting to bullies.

As a Chinese person, I agree with the central argument here around sovereignty. However, I want to point out China's sovereignty is not just a "national sovereignty" but a sovereignty of a civilization. China has the advantage of being a civilization consisting of only a single country. Perhaps what's more relevant to other parts of the world is for civilizations consisting of several countries to share and build up a single civilization-wide sovereignty, above each participating country's sovereignty. That'd be very hard though.
I am a person of Han Chinese ancestry, and what I am most proud of is that the civilization of China embraces 56 ethnic groups. The strength of the nation comes from uniting, contributing, sharing and working hard together to create better lives for all.
It's hard only if the world will still hold onto the idea of nations defined by law--but there's no guarantee that things will stay thus forever. With multipolarity, countries are starting to band together so they can gain greater strength in numbers, to have more say on the international stage, to form their own pole amongst many. And those countries are those that already have shared history, culture, physical location.
Yes, China is actually a civilization state, not an ethnic state. I.e. It consists of several "nations" to form what we consider officially to be a country. This is why China has a deeply ingrained concept of equality -- it's home to everyone, and nobody, even minorities, are treated as a second class citizens.
@@gryblk21 Chinese government often show case the various ethnic cultures during national day celebration., Such open show case is not done in the US or the West about their minority group. during national day celebration.

I always find it weird nobody in the western media landscape (including pro-China folks) had any interest in actually taking economic classes in China, a place that is literally and definitively in the process of the fastest industrialization in human history, you are taking a prescient step that is gonna be revolutionary for real leftists that want to learn Chinese economic theories.
People like Ben who has deep experience in Latin American would have a unique advantage of sensing and finding out why China would come out of historical trauma to become what it is now. I guess that unique background would also lead Ben to the conclusion that China is the only economic superpower that does not depend on colonialism to drive its development. Looking back into most of 50’s and entire 60’s, China was sanctioned by both US/EU and Soviet Union so the country understands and implements “bottom-line thinking” in term of achieving independence in every aspect of what makes an independent country. That’s why current sanctions from US does not terrifies Chinese people and its government. Also, both US and China are superpowers and each of them faces much bigger internal problems than external threats. I do not know who will prevail but I guess time is not on US’s side.

The hell with China.

China is doomed ☢️
This is why the western deep state government genocide China on UA-cam...

They should be more loyal to their country rather than their tribes.
if u r one day becomes a leader in one of the countries in africa. get rid of or reduce corruption like china do, then your country will prosperous
You said it. Well done!👍👏
It's a good think Google and Meta is out of China. They're US spies.
The Chinese government has total control over industrial policies. Regular competition doesn't exist in China.

Welcome to China and work together!

Welcome to China Ben! Moving from Manchester, England was the best decision I ever made!
I have just watched about 21 minutes and every word about China is true and inspiring,
Welcome to China, Ben! We’re so thrilled to have you here!
It was so true that most of the social sciences & studies in China are subconsciously controlled by western influences. They are de facto the mouthpieces of western media and “NGO”s!

It is their inention to stay that way, cheap labors, big market, not competing with them. Look at the crazy sanctions US and her allied imposed on China and the western media's bombast propganda of China.

Thank you Ben! This is one of the best videos about and understanding China that I have ever seen. You claim not to be a China expert, but your knowledge and understanding of China is far above most China experts on youtube, even only with your one month stay in China. I am so happy that you have chosen your PHD course in China. I'm hopeful that there will be more intellectuals and academics from the G7’s that will take after your steps to experience China and tell the truth to the world.

In the end new economic wars are now occurring as a vaccum in new world order has hence occured. Further instability will ensue since perpetual exploitation can never be reversed by old imperial models. The so called western experts on China should better take away the dirty rugs from their eyes blinding them to see the truth and reality about issues of geo global concern. China has bypassed their simplistic speculative misnorma of fake information. The reality of keeping the west in darkness about truth about China has tangible negative effects of longterm sleep in cormnfatable zone of deep sweet dream of western imperial supremercy that is long overdue, they need to wake up. China has readily strengthened its grip on cheap row material sources the markets in the global south, etc. The emergency of a new market place independent of dollar as an official exchange currency is in pipeline. It might one day occur that the Wall Street /London Stockmarkets only bear a mere low profile in world trade. The plundered resources of the global south in colonial times are being misallocated in senseless exhubillant luxeries and military spending and soon they will disappear for good. *Sooner or later China will be in position to assist the global south rebel and avange by imitating the Chinese model to disolg the imperial dictatorship of cdinyial of human peaceful co-existance and hence regain their sovereignty too. Let the imperial forces first fast weaken themselves in long dream and unnecessary economic and physical wars in Europe, USA political marcination of cannibalisation, etc. What one can't imagine Americas pitfall of re-election a criminal person in State House in names of president and leader of free world again in 2024 and still call that a democratic process of progress! Sovereignty is one of the keys to China's economic success. It enable this country to retain most of the benefits of its economy growth to itself to generate further growth, instead of largely being taken away by foreign companies. It also enable this country to defend itself well during trade war, technology war and even a hot war.

I've been living and working in China since 2013 and if I can retire here I will be ecstatic. I love my home country, but China is where I feel safest and capable of achieving my goals. Thank you China! I agree that the Chinese govt. always makes sure its sovereignty is protected. I work in the education publishing field and foreign academic publishers can publish if they work together with Chinese publishers. This prevents foreign publishers gaining monopoly, supports sharing of knowledge and skills between foreign and domestic, and also ensures foreign ideologies are kept out of China.

Lobby is not the problem for them, China bans drugs(death penalty), casino and prostitution, think about it.
谢谢!

Please Enjoy your peace, the freedom ,the prosperity, and good quality of life here in China. Just don't Mess with the Government of China . China is not the West . If u must .
Ben, you are awesome!!! You are the rare person that has both brilliant economic insights and empathy for the people impacted.
I would love to see you engage with Jeffery Sachs, a world economic active practitioner..

Thank you for your work. I am Taiwanese American and came to the US when I was quite young and finished all my school through MBA in the US. I was alarmed during the Obama years when I noticed a lot of media, especially NYTimes that I've been reading since junior high and is the left's flagship publication, started running articles on China that clearly don't have the facts right and often more opinion than news.
Things have gotten worse since then of course and you basically won't find any positive or even neutral report on China, it's always bad bad bad. Some of the negative news are so outrageous it's basically evil caricature and could be easily debunked but it's re-re-reported as facts.
The same is happening when the US is being describe as an evil empire, a lot of exaggerated news recounts.

What you're describing reminds me of the USSR or Yugoslavia

It is a pity that left-wing political activity has been dormant for half a century.
