Good choice with the Fargo. Someone commented that there are even less Fargos' than that...(?) But whatever the figure, there is now (very nearly) one more. They look like DeSoto tailfins.
I am so glad to get another look around that yard. Good luck with the resto = )

You may not be "highly knowledgeable" but you are not afraid to get dirty. That speaks well of you. I wish you the best in your attempt to revive the pick up as it is real rare. By leaving "patina" you can avoid some of the hard work and get it to the shape where you can finish or sell and let someone else build their dream Pretty good video.. Go a little slower on the panning when shooting a broad view.

The American Dodge Sweptsides from 1957-1959 are rare enough (I think only a few thousand were originally built during the 3 year span - MoPar's answer to the Chevy Cameo, pretty much) - the Fargo Sweptsides from 1957-1959 are the rarest of them all. I understand not keeping it (probably made a decent profit on it as well), but at the very least, it was rescued from further rot and neglect.
The bed is what makes these trucks so doggone hard to restore. It's, basically, the lower back of a Dodge 2-door station wagon (tailgate and bumper included) slapped onto the back of a truck, so no cannibalizing just any 1958 Dodge for rust repair - especially since the 2-door wagons are practically hen's teeth themselves!
    Hopefully, it will live on.....

We had a 1955 Chevy truck called a cameo it was a pick up with a fiber hoass bed and wrap around windshield, was Honduras mahogany in color a straight 6. Only 1200 made. We sold it quite a few years ago . It still ran, no rust needed to be put back original. Wish I had ot now to sell cheap to you just to see it restored. It was a thing of beauty and would be a rare piece.

The Fargo was a good choice. Dodge's answer to the Chevy Cameo truck. No need to explain yourself here. One can buy repop panels and, of course one can always fabricate new parts. Judging by the comments you must have a new set of viewers. I can recall a few videos ago we had a bunch of nay-Sayers. Oh, matching numbers engine/drive train a huge bonus.

Haha, you took the advice and looked again. Like I said before I wish it was closer to me. Hope you do ok with it. We all have the dream of finding the jewel in the rough and restoring it back to glory. You can't do them all, but if you can save them from the crusher you're still saving them. So what if you make money along the way. That's part of it too. You need to get as many as you dare to handle out of there. Long as they can be bought of course.

A woody has always been on my list, but that adds another dimension to the project. I have a 52' Dodge truck, that sweptside is cool, you do that right with the original engine and maybe you should take it to the big auctions like Monterey. I am in SF and I usually go down a week early and cruise by the fenced in lots full of cars going to the block. How many miles on the odometer? I better look and see if you made another video, this was a year ago.

right beside the head light canaster at 7:48 is a WWII B17 flying fortress fire extinguisher. its brass I think. I had one hated it didnt know what it was. tried to sell it for years. it wouldn't sell. i picked it up in 1969. finally sold it in 2009. right after I sold it I found out what I had I sold it cheap. NOW I really wish I had it back. another stupid me. saw an old WWII flying movie and the plane got shot up. something caught on fire and they pulled out the trusty pump fire extinguisher and squirted out the fire. sort of. like I said stupid me. go back get it you wont be sorry. WWII stuff sells for good money$! Jim BCC Az

That is so amazing! I live in a suburb in Las Vegas and there was a canary yellow Dodge swept - side right down the road from me, but I had never seen one or heard of that model and I honestly thought for years that it was something that was built using the fins off of a Chrysler of the same or similar year. I thought it was a great job... NOW I find out that it's a Swept-Side and a factory built truck! I haven't seen that truck in a while but it was really nicely restored. Hope yours ends up that way one day. There's a guy in Australia that makes tail light lens' and back up light lens' for those year Mopars, he's the only place I found that had them in the whole world making new lens'. Probably those lens' also fit other models of that year.

Love the Sweptsides. I have a 57 Ddge 100, step side. I was told the 57 Sweptsides are basically, 57 Plymouth stationwagon fenders mounted to the truck bed. My 57 originally came with the 315 V8, and the 2 speed push button transmission like yours. And the fairly rare wrap around rear window. Same cab as the 58, but different front fenders, and front clip. I'm about an hour and a half south of Edmonton, in Red Deer. I'm mostly looking for good trim. Not really any chance of going back to original now. High school project truck with my dad in the early 80's. Last x-mas he was telling me to restore it to factory. But really, we modified it too much. He passed away suddenly last May. If you know of anyone with good clean headlight trim, I think it's stainless. I'm just going to rebuild it, as a tribute. Clean up what we hastily done.

@@CuriosityIncorporated I haven't seen a follow-up to this did you get it restored? How's it going with the 2 I think you said race cars your friend has had for a year. I can't believe in what beautiful shape that Cadillac you have is. My brother bought a 1963 Cadillac in 1974 when he was working at the dealership last year after three years of working on it and going to five different states it's totally refurbished and is just amazing with the great big fins in the back and it's a kind of a gold color I don't remember the exact name. I had forgotten how big that car was I sat down in it and couldn't even see over the dashboard LOL. He's almost finished refurbishing a 1974 Cadillac Eldorado convertible he drove it in a parade last year. It's green with a tan roof. I absolutely love to seeing these vehicles it's a shame they've been rotting away for so many years. I would absolutely love to have one of the older vehicles to refurbish if I had the money and have a hot rod. My friend's sister has a Model T and a Model A sitting in a giant storage building she had built when they moved everything up from San Antonio from the family garage and gas station that they used to have. She has a bunch of those old glass oil bottles and all kinds of things it's amazing how much is in there and how big that building is.

Another great video. I'd love to restore one of those but don't have the technology or means. One question. Where do you start in restoring it?

+poochie49 I actually bought this one as inventory to sell, but have restored many over the years. You start by researching the right vehicle to buy, then save up the cash! :)

I wonder how many people recognize the Ghostbusters logo on your door and have seen the movie, probably not too many young ones, I saw it in the theater back in the early 1980s. Saw a look-alike at a car show with all the stuff on it, great movie :-)

It gets a lot of attention for sure, mind you it did even without the logos on the side :)
