Yangtse: How India Beat Back PLA Incursions & Where The Army Looks Down On Chinese Positions

  • Yangtse: In the fifth and final episode of 'Along The China Front: Commanding The Tawang Heights', StratNews Global's team of Amitabh P. Revi and Rohit Pandita report from Yangtse. We travel to and through the area to document the past, present, and future of Yangtse. After the deadly Galwan clashes in 2020, the Chinese attempted similar incursions, at the other extremity of the LAC, in the eastern sector in Arunachal Pradesh. Both were literally beaten back. Since the Sumdurong Chu standoff, India has occupied the dominating heights, Lt Gen Sanjay Kulkarni(Retd), Former DG, Infantry points out, saying, "Yangtse is a position of strength. When (India) you occupy that particular height. They always feel that they're being looked down upon and everything is right under our noses. They don't like that," adding, they came "with an intention. But, our vigilance and preparation prevented them from doing what they probably thought they would (like) at Galwan." Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) is the only way to survive, the Ex-Brigade Commander in Tawang insists, whether with "drones, satellites or surveillance". There have been reports of real-time U.S. intelligence during the December 2022 foiled PLA attempt, but, Claude Arpi, Sinologist and Tibetologist dismisses tactical intelligence sharing as "exaggerated", even though strategic cooperation including intelligence is on the up-swing.
Watch this documentary as we travel to the revered Chumi Gyatse or Holy Waterfalls at Yangtse. Benedict Rogers, China Analyst, and Author also calls out the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) double standards in claiming the area as being extremely "ironic", pointing to the CCP's propensity to on the one hand "repress religion" while trying "to weaponise it when it suits them."

My Grandad Air Marshal G.K.John DFC, PVSM in 1962 he was Wing Commander Westerm Air Command a WW2 Vet having flown in the battle of Britain(1940) and in Malta(1942) and Burma(1944) he was mobilised during the Indo China War in 1962 to enforce a no fly zone against the Chinese he undertook several Reconnasaince missions in Canberras(bomber aircraft) and Alouette helicopters( French made Sud Avaition) monitoring Chinese Ground and Air elements , on one such sortie his Alouette helicopter developed engine trouble and his pilot- he was.not flying - made an emergency landing in Tawang village he was greeted profusely by the villagers who had a lot of complaints against the Chinese , he was hospitably treated and the village gifted him a puppy whom he bought back to Halwara his base and gifted to his 11 year old daughter who happend to be my mother this puppy was named Boko because he was so energetic and enthusiatically barked at any unknown person symbolically personifing the resistance of these villagers to Chinese incursions.

The Chinese army may have latest technology weapons compared to indian army, yet they got no fighting experiences as compared to Indian army who from the very start of its origin has been involved in every kind of battles making them a tough and battle harden veteran, thus Chinese army cant stand against the indian army in an open war. Current Affairs - India China Bhutan triangle relation
The fairy tales about the existence of Dragon🐉 is not only true here but this Dragon is becoming as a great threat for India's internal security
Here we are talking about the Silliguri Corridor (the Chicken Neck of India and the Dragon Neck of China ( Chumbi Valley in Tibet) This is a 1 million dollar question which is more vulnerable a) the Chicken Neck of India (the Silliguri Corridor) or b) the Dragon Neck of China ( Chumbi Valley in Tibet) Both of them stands on a strategic important and very vulnerable location.
The Chicken Neck of India was discussed at great length in social media during Doklam standoff but there was a blurred picture talking about the vulnerabilities on Indian side but the vulnerablities on chinese side was never discussed. Now in this discussion we talk about the vulnerabilities of the Dragon Neck of China
Before going into any detail analysis We need to explain some facts on historical and background informations. China entered inside eastern Tibet in 1950 and captured whole Tibet in 1959. In 1962 China started a war with India at some border points.
    a) a short Introduction of Silliguri Corridor/the Chicken Neck of India b) a short Introduction of Chumbi Valley/the Dragon Neck of China
Now Silliguri Corridor is only 22 KM small stretch of land joining eastern India with rest of India. China like to see it as Chicken Neck of India in case of war between India and China. Most social media platform reports and analysis shows only the vulnerability on Indian side like Doklam incident but don't show the vulnerabilities on chinese side.
If we study this map carefully than on the northern side of Siliguri Corridor lays the Chumbi Valley (Dromo in Tibetan) you can see a small patch of land streching deep inside Indian territory, on east of Sikkim, north of Silliguri and west of Bhutan.
This area used to be the main trade route between India and Tibet, the nearest and shortest route to Lhasa before 1962 and after India China war this trade route between Tibet India was sealed off by China.
We call this small patch of land as the Dragon Neck of China (Chumbi Valley) We came to this conclusion by studying the map carefully, looking every thing from a different angle and perspective. You have to imagine yourself standing on the northern upper most part of Chumbi Valley and looking at Siliguri Corridor and Doklam area from a bird's perspective.
You will see the noose of Dragon direct at Doklam and whole Neck of Dragon streching deep inside Indian territory. On the west side there is Bhutan who is a protectorate of India which mean the Neck of Dragon is surrounded by India from three sides eastern, western and southern position. In case of hostilities between India and China, India can easily cutoff this Neck of Dragon.
Why India should to do it? This is one million dollar question again? a) China want to cutoff Chicken Neck of India and whole north east India from rest of India b) It provides China direct access to the sea port of Calcutta via occupied landlocked Tibet c) to expand its economic, military and global maritime supremacy in the world.
As end conclusion in the case of war between India and China? China will try to cutoff the Chicken Neck of Siliguri and India should not get too much fixed on Chicken Neck problem but need to pay much more attention on the Achilles heel of China - Geopolitics Simplified Analysis
