- Ben Kavanagh is working as a teacher in Wuhan - the city under quarantine as the deadly coronavirus continues to spread across China. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Ben has been stuck in his flat for the duration of the lockdown. Today, he's celebrating his birthday - alone in his flat, having enjoyed a simple dinner out of stockpiled rations and ventured into the eerie empty city to throw out garbage and find water. He took his phone along to film it all for us.
Like Ben, millions of Wuhan locals are in lockdown, as China's health minister warns that the virus is 'getting stronger'.
Over 100 people have now died and more than 4,500 are infected - with many of those infected not yet displaying symptoms.

I don't get why the Chinese don't clean up their act for their own health reasons. I've seen such conditions in South East Asia that I could never understand. I lived there almost 3 years. It just confounded me the proximity to animais, wild life, feces & urine in some places - all hot zones for breeding such horrid ugly bugs.

Apparently there was this Filipino lady who went there on vacation to a hotel and had no idea what was going on. She went out before lock down started and when she came back to the hotel all the hotel staff were gone, if it were me I'd think it was the rapture.

NYC had a stay at home order. Nothing like Wuhan lockdown. You could come and go as you please as walking was considered exercise. Took too long to have essential workers like food cashiers (and customers)to have to mask to work. That was scary when going food shopping and seeing only half employees masked the others unmasked chatting away in the aisles. Many food cashiers came from the hottest hotspot areas of NYC to work in areas not as infected. But Thank God that they did go to work as many became infected and stores closed for disinfection. They worked, while others get $600 extra weekly added to their regular unemployment if they couldn't work at home. Many workers get more from unemployment than they did working.

I'm in quarantine too, in Qingdao, far to the east almost able to see Seoul over the bay.
They quarantined the ENTIRE area between Beijing and Shanghai. Its like imagine half of europe being quarantined.
No food, no water, no store supplies coming into my city, of over 10mil people.
They literally locked down all highways and import/export. I'm wondering wtf to eat come Friday.

I wouldn't knee the lift button. Germs can attach themselves to your jeans and then you touch your knee. 😳🤮. Take a tissue or paper towel and wrap your finger and throw it in the bin on the way out. I do this for public toilets doors because it defeats the purpose of washing your hands after doing number ones and two's . Alot of filthy fuckers in the world. We must think smart and stay safe.

I don't think they've had time to test the full extent of the active period of this contagion on a variety of surfaces and in different atmospheric conditions. Viruses and bacteria can live for different lengths of time depending on the surface they're on and on weather variables.
Also-- since this virus appears to be airborne the microparticles in the air will travel and land on surfaces in their own time-- and end up in places that no infected person has actually touched.

Lol, there are 9 million people chose to stay in Wuhan doing self-quarantine to fight the strong contagious virus, some of them are not from Wuhan, that means they cant be together with their families during the Chinese spring festival (for Chinese people, it is equivalent to Christmas for westerners). They all know that if they had leave Wuhan, they might bring virus to their families and friends, even if there is only a little risk. So no need to make a fuss to Ben Kavanagh's special birthday experience.

@@jennirenfer2578 yes, this is so so important. Temperature screenings are really useless as the virus can be asymptomatic but still contagious for upto 14 days. Please, take care and rest for 14 days with supervision. I hope you're really safe.

the chance of him die from the virus is low though , corona kill mostly old and sick people , but if you are young and healthy the chance of dying from it are pretty low , but new from china that the virus are being mutant ( better adapt to hot climate vv ) good new is hongkong found some kind of vaccine but it need time for testing , hope it send soon and we can found the reason of the outbrake is it from eating wild animal or is it a leak from the Wuhan virus resreach center

@@Starplaya Go and watch also Outbreak movie from 1995, Dustin Hoffman and Rene Russ, I re-watched it ever since the scare of coronavirus. Though the film doesn't have that ghost town intro, the plot is very similar to what is happening right now, go and watched it.

Duhhhreeell - It’s doubtful they will at all unfortunately. In America the Flu is seems to be deadlier right now, 8,200 people have died this season alone from influenza. Yet they really don’t have anyway to combat that. If the Chinese numbers are correct, you have a 6% chance of perishing from this strain of Corona.
