As someome who mainly plays iRacing, I really enjoy AMS2. Its fun, easy to pick up and play, tons of content, and you don't have to worry about gridning a car/track combo to be competitive and on pace. Not sure why sim racers get caught so up with "realism" that they forget gaming is supposed to be enjoyable. I like them both!

Since for whatever reason there are quite a few people finding this today, I may add that since making the video I've found some more improvement in how the game feels to me via disabling virtual sync and enabling low latency mode in my Nvidia control panel. There was surprisingly a lot of input lag which only increases the feeling of disconnection between the wheel and the game.

Solid info. I've been using these settings for a good while now, good tip about the low latency mode, don't know how much it's working for me but it seems like it's sharpened things up further. A little setup really makes a great difference, usually just softening up a few things and adding some toe in is all it takes to stabilize the rear, I've also been reducing the rear rebound which seems to help as well. With all the settings dialed in, I really enjoy how it drives and I've been having good fun.

You can also go to options > performance and set "render frames ahead" to 1 to decrease input lag.

Yes, custom ffb files cannot change physics but they can show what's beneath, the perception (AMS2 makes a huge efford to hide it 🤣). AMS2 is making it's path and, been an rF2 user for a great part of my simracing activities (almost 1000h, registered), I can see it getting far enough for it to be my main sim, although it lacks rF2's supreme sense of driving a car (yet?). Just to be able to easily and quickly jump on any track with it's current weather conditions (meaning, I don't know what to expect until I get to the track) and FCY gives me another dimension of simracing S397 fails to understand. rF2 had genius behind it, but they are long gone (when S397 was born) and the sim is decaying relatively to other sims. Both have their space, both are great entertainment tools. I even like rF2's car graphics better! (not the tracks, just the cars 😁)

I always find myself jumping into AMS2 most these days, even with the driving experience not being as sharp as some of the other sims comparatively. Now, I don't think it's as bad as some say, I've found that a bit of setup work goes a long way, and FullFFB does a great job at providing a confident mid-corner grip feel. Together with those, I find I'm driving very smoothly and confident, works great on every car class I've driven. It's just so easy to jump in and have some really fun racing with AMS2, which is something I really appreciate.

@@user-tg5su9bf2f And I did forgot to mention car failures... I've seen AI cars overheating ('smoke' trail behing them, then box), the AI in front simply pulling over without smoke or other evidence of what was the cause and our own car failures: I've already had water leak (non terminal) and oil leak (did force me to abandon race).
This is so simple to simulate and adds so much to the racing environment!

For AI racing it's unbeatable. I was doing some AI racing in Assetto Corsa and though I really enjoy the driving physics, I struggle to enjoy racing the AI, the racing quality between tracks is all over the place, constantly brake checking you on random corners. I really love how you can jump into AMS2 and have really good racing. There's so much AMS2 does right, I really do wish they can dial in the physics a bit more. I do enjoy driving it but I can't deny it's quirks do grate on me after a while. @@jopereirapt

@@MrDantte yup, I also don't like iRacings ice racing physics, and of course all the weird physics bugs and stuff it has. But it's still great game, one of the best.
Racing sims, video games, heck, EVERYTHING in general are actually a lot like lap times - there is no such thing as a perfect lap time, it is only a myth, you can ALWAYS go faster, improve your time, your speed and driving. There's always room for improvement, you'll always make some mistakes. The important thing is that you have fun with what your doing and enjoy chasing yourself up that neverending road called perfection.
I also enjoy the Codemasters official F1 games & Dirt rally 2.0. Are they realistic physic simulators? Not really, Dirt rally 2.0 is decent, but with extremely simple & limited FFB, same with F1 games too. Yet despite that, I think most people agree the lack of FFB & physics simulation is a worthy trade off for the FUN EXPERIENCE you get playing them. As long as you are entertained enough to overlook the flaws & pitfalls then it's a good game. Yeah it can always be improved. But I think it's kinda ridiculous to completely trash a game based of only one aspect, and it's even more ridiculous to get mad at people for simply enjoying the game & don't mind overlooking the flaws because they have fun playing it, even though they do agree it has flaws & can be improved.
Like sorry I have fun and enjoy a game that has flaws???? Even though literally every game in history has had flaws. The ams 2 haters should be going after Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo, F1 games instead of ams 2 because these games advertise themselves as sims but are absolutely no where AMS 2 in terms of FFB & physics, let alone actual tried & tested "true" sims such as RF2, AC, AMS 1.
At end of the day, racing simulators are video games, they are games. The term "racing simulator" is just a genre of video games. None of them are perfect, none ever will be, so stop treating certain sims like they are perfect or "the one", sure rf2 sets the standard but it's very far from perfect, it's more a driving/hot lap sim than a actual racing sim.
So I'm just happy we have a new sim, that is actually trying to make some progress and keep this genre alive, fresh, be and exciting. Because I feel like we're at point where racing sim hardware has rapidly advanced the past few years, but sim software has kinda lagged behind, A LOT and gotten stale. I mean, even AMS 2 haters would agree with me there, considering we STILL have not gotten a new racing simulator that has completely improved or outperformed the likes of Assetto Corsa, RF2, AMS 1 & iRacing.......all of which are well over a decade old (except maybe rf2? I forget).
I think that's where the real frustration comes from with ams 2 haters. We are starved and desperate for something - anything that can outperform, out class, or out compete these decades old sims, especially with the fundamental core basics. And AMS 2 still has failed to achieve the core fundamental basics that made there decades old sims so good despite the fact that ams 2 had improved & made advancements in many other areas, it just gets soured & overshadowed by the fact the basic core driving fundamentals do not feel as good as all the decade old sims.

You remove the file responsible for a given car in the filepath I gave in the video (some files are used for multiple cars but it's largely trial and error finding out which ones they are, or you can just re-do all of them) and create an empty text file with the same name and extension (need to have visible file extensions enabled in Windows -> File explorer options -> view -> uncheck "hide extensions"). (Re)start the game after that and it should work.

I play every sim but iRacing and there are things I very much dislike about AMS2, especially the complete lack of weight of anything (it basically feels like every car done through the madness engine is a carton box) but I actually prefer the driving itself to rF2 or ACC. Perhaps the ability to catch big slides is significantly overdone in AMS2 but I'd personally rather have that than those phantom spins with no information whatsoever preceding them, like I do in the other sims. I actually now perceive the newest version of Raceroom as the ideal in terms of driving feel, the problem is that it's kind of dead in terms of content updates and multiplayer (unless of course MX5 and F4 on the same 5 tracks over and over are okay to somebody).

Just feels like Project Cars all be it with huge improvements. I wish they had used another game engine, Reiza have skills for sure but they have wasted them on the Madness Engine. It's impossible to remove the core DNA of an engine. If it wasn't right to begin with, no matter how hard you try it will always be wrong.

Played racing games for years, if you're serious why are they always running default settings and then moaning 😕 watched one the other day and it's always the same. The car is floaty. No attempt to tune a car to a track or anything. I've always tried to tune cars. ACC is the same default setups are awful. But no, default straight to crying about physics 🤣

I mean, the way things feel is a pretty subjective thing. I've never had a problem with the way AMS2 feels personally. Watching this video though, I'd learn the cars a lot more before being worried about what you're talking about. You're going way over track limits again and again, in that section on the Nords you punted a car in front of you. More of a skill issue than a game issue it looks like.

It's kind of a flawed approach to what the definition of simulation is, even disregarding how subjective it is. The level of simulation is not equal to the way the feeling from the tires is transferred to the wheelbase. I do think this is AMS2's weakest side in that regard but there are still more aspects simulated in this game compared to rf2, ac or others. In fact I think only beamNG is more complex at the moment, and ACC is somewhere near the same level.

Dude, unless you get one of those dedicated simulators used for training racing drivers that cost millions with dedicated hardware, software and sometimes a whole warehouse just for it, you'll only ever be getting a game. It's impossible for any PC to run a full simulation. To many parameters and to many machines and hardware configurations !

Exactly this! There are flaws in the physics engine that no amount of tweaking could fix.

    • @sshoveitt

@@papryk3102 Yeah this is completely true, but the amount of things simulated doesn't equal the quality of the simulation itself. Ams2 brings a lot to the table but the quality of all the things is lacking. I'm sure that if you're more open minded after a good time spend in the ams2 you'll see the approach to being fast in all the cars is absolutely the same. The difference is just in the nuance. The physics are just shallow and "easy" with a touch here and there

This is so much bullshit. It's your setup and FFB settings and PC performance that causes these driving problems. I have been using Automobilista2 for years with none of these problems. It is now one of the premier racing sims. If you are experiencing driving problems it's the quality of your hardware and the power of your PC.
