    Why do you only have 52.000 subs? You have far more professional and interesting content than most other UA-camrs. I've been watching you from the start and you have developed so much! Keep doing what you're doing!

      Thanks for watching all this time! The numbers shouldn't be used as a measure of quality or success. I'm just glad those who have discovered it, have been able to enjoy it!

      I agree with Jan. Such a calm, confident delivery and relaxing music too. I always wonder why travel bloggers feel the need to put jaunty loud music as background. Beautiful shots from above, were they made with a drone?

      Well...if quality should be the real measure of success, Brandon Li or Yuri Palma should have 10M of subcribers...

    Really useful Joe, thank you. It occurred to me that one other accommodation option is to buy a relatively cheap tent/ bivvi bag, and sleeping bag, on arrival in Auckland and hire a car. That way you can camp /stealth camp when the weather is OK, and use a hostel/hotel/airbnb when the weather is less favourable. That way is possibly cheaper than a campervan, but you also have a greater degree of flexibility and choice with a car. Hire an estate car and you could probably sleep in the back.

    Awesome guide! Super informative :) Just another tip: if you are looking for nature in Auckland, for instance, hop on a ferry to Tiritiri Matangi or Rangitoto Island! Most of us do have to spend a wee bit of time in Auckland anyway, so it's worth making something out of it ;) And: If you miss out doing a glacier hike on the West Coast (Franz Josef and Fox) then try your chances at doing a glacier hike on the Tasman Glacier in Aoraki Mt Cook Village - the weather is generally better there.

    Nice video - though, as an Aucklander, I feel you sold Auckland a bit short. IMHO, the three best aspects of Auckland are (1) the Hauraki Gulf islands (e.g., Rangitoto, Waiheke, Tiritiri Matangi); (2) the volcanic cones (e.g., Mt Eden, Mt Victoria, Rangitoto); (3) the Waitakere Range and the spectacular black-sand West Coast beaches (e.g., Piha, Muriwai (w/ gannet colony), Whatipu). Even if you're not a city person, it's definitely worth more than just a passing visit.
    (ps. It's a pity you couldn't stay for the British & Irish Lions tour, starting in a couple of days!)

    • @joeallam
      @joeallam  7 років тому

      I hear what you're saying and those are all beautiful places - but that is _exactly_ my point. None of those are actually Auckland city. Sure they're near, but the point I was making was that I personally wouldn't travel to New Zealand looking for city life. I am very much a city person, coming from London, and would consider Tokyo my favourite place in the world. Auckland is just considerably smaller, as it's relative to the much smaller population.
      When I say I'm coming to New Zealand for nature, it's because to me that's what NZ can offer best unlike anywhere else.
      It's definitely a shame about the Lions though; I would have loved to see that live!

    • @JKPhotoNZ
      @JKPhotoNZ 6 років тому

      Love the vid, good info and mostly great pronunciation. With respect to he volcanoes, they're all within the city. Technically the western beaches and eastern islands are part of the city too, even though they're "country side".
      If you're back this way in the next few years, feel free to contact me and see if I can show you some scenic spots in the Auckland region.

    New zealand reminds me to Patagonia, a geographical region in south america, shared by Chile and Argentina. But , new zealand has it all (glaciers, mountains, snow, cold humid climate, warm climate, extremely stunning beaches In a relatively small space!. wish to be there some day. Greetings.

    Thanks for trying to pronounce our Maori place names, and getting permission from rangers to fly the drone.

    planning to go there on a holiday, which one is better, south island or north island? do you think 2 weeks are enough if we're using campervan?

    • @dominichawkins6832
      @dominichawkins6832 7 років тому +2

      babyburnsz South Island, 2 weeks should be enough, I drove from Auckland to Queenstown in 1 week, but we didn't do anything on the west coast, so two weeks should be good!

    • @babyburnsz
      @babyburnsz 7 років тому +2

      Dominic Hawkins yeah, i also heard so many things about the south island, but the flight available from indonesia are much cheaper if we're arrived in auckland which is in the north island. dont know whether we should start there and pushing 2 weeks for 2 island or just instantly flew to the south island and start south?

    • @dominichawkins6832
      @dominichawkins6832 7 років тому

      babyburnsz well if you drive from Auckland, you have to take account the gas costs and car ferry costs, I'm not sure how much it will be but I assume it will make up the difference. Personally I think the north island is a bit boring, the Auckland west coast is cool, and so is raglan a couple hours south (as well as Ruapehu as he says) but I still think there are better versions of them all in the South Island.

    • @parthvisnagara3
      @parthvisnagara3 6 років тому

      @@dominichawkins6832 the North island has warmer weather and great beaches, the coromandel, is a good example of this, and there are lesser known jems like goat island and the giant sand dunes up north.
