  • Sunday Evening overview :-)
    Decided to make a view where I talk about the NonLinearCircuits Triple Sloth and go through some of it's features..
    Hopefully this will be useful to people interested in it's uses.. I hope it is anyway :-)
    This is kind of a proof of concept for making videos where I talk about modules I've made so if you like or don't like :-) please leave a comment below..

    Thank you! It’s hard to know what that modular really does from the specs. I really appreciate you talking the time to show us how it works.

      Hey Forrest thanks for the comment as it's one of the first nonlinearcircuits I got into I wanted to give people a chance to try and understand it a bit better

    Dr Gareth I presume. The man that will show you the very bones. I love how they named the three units. I cannot believe that that was an eight minute video it was gone in a second. More of these please and I don't even have a rack.

    Well, this is useful information! I have to say that this module is a champion among modules that make no coherent effort to sell themselves (or even vaguely explain themselves).
    I still can't tell whether it's worth 8hp, TBH, but at least now I know more about the module than merely that electricity comes out! (Does “chaos” mean something different in modular synthesis than it does in mathematics?)
    What was the modulating signal?

    • @PnPModular
      @PnPModular  3 роки тому

      The module was modulating loguelic iteritas from Noise Engineering.. I'm not an expert on Chaos but the way it is explained is that there are two attractors defined in the circuit and voltages orbit these over varying amounts... Maybe you would prefer the OCHD from Divkid? It's smaller and provides similar function...

      @@PnPModular Mm, sorry, I meant to ask what the *input* modulator at 6:45 is, in terms of waveform and frequency. It seems to have a profound effect on the output, far more than the documentation would have led me to guess.
      As I understand it, Øchd is quite different-it has, if I'm not confused, a set of more or less stable free-running oscillators of different periods, with a common voltage control-so it behaves as if you had taken a bank of conventional LFOs and driven them from a common control signal while turning their CV attenuators to random values. This, on the other hand, has outputs that vary in both amplitude and frequency, and I assume that there's substantial internal cross-modulation to achieve this.
      What I find odd is that, chaotic or not, there must be things to say about the voltage and frequency ranges to be expected, the relationship between X and Y, how the three channels are related to each other (if at all), what the CVs (in a mathematical sense) do, and so on, but the documentation instead seems to verge on mysticism :). Maybe everyone else just knows what a sloth circuit is?

      @@stephenspackman5573 you have to remember Andrew is PhD in some kind of chaos.. re the CV input I think it's just a single output of Befaco Rampage on a pretty quick envelope.. think the output effect was more noticeable as I was using the difference rectifier and it was all positive. I've looked at the circuit diagram in the build document .. I have built a second triple sloths with 3xTORPOR in it.. I find this a lot more useful.. the modulations are quick enough to drive "let's sploosh" to get a meaningful output .. not so good with slow inputs. . the Z output is a inverted version of Y.. looking at the circuit diagram is the closest I've got to trying to understand it... From memory there are three op-amps used per sloth and they kind of waterfall into each other. I'm not an electronic engineer and especially not a mathematician... I would recommend joining the Facebook group the Nonlinearcircuits builders guild. Maybe someone can order some more detailed response... I did my best to explain what I don't fully understand .. I wish I could explain it better tbh.. the difference rectifier is fed by all of the Z outputs and provides either positive or negative versions of these.. I really like difference rectification.. the neuron module has one at the bottom...

      @@PnPModular Thanks again. I hope I'm not being annoying! I can tell I have some underlying frustration because I'm trying to work out what kind(s) of randomness are useful to me, but of course everyone talks and thinks about randomness differently….

    • @PnPModular
      @PnPModular  3 роки тому

      @@stephenspackman5573 I do understand what you mean , don't worry you're not being annoying just I am not sure it's that easy for me to convey the full picture and suitability.. I do think for me 3XTORPOR speed triple sloths is more useful... Some people really need the idea of sync as well. I make all my NLC stuff so it's less of an issue .. so I have a good variety to choose from. Half way through my 4th 126hp of NLC so have plenty of variety... Hypster is quite interesting as well as you can change the rate .. also enjoy feague.. but what I really like to do is create a kind of "hub" using multiple types into lets sploosh and make a right mess of stuff

    So if it cannot fully open a VCA, what is it good for?

    • @PnPModular
      @PnPModular  2 роки тому

      just a general modulator for anything that accepts CV.. sometimes i put thru a VCA or offset module to target a specific area i want the chaos to modulate..

      @@PnPModular thank for getting back to me but surely it'd need a scalar (to increase the cv amplitude) to ensure at sloth's peak modualtion, it will open the VCA, no?
