Rusty Palette! M Graham, Da Vinci, and Daniel Smith make a Payne's Gray gouache. Stoneground does too in Mint Gardner line but only as half pan. Love that you have a tip on keeping dried goauche from cracking in the Art Toolkit palette! I just got that palette and now have ideas for it. New subscriber today!
Hi and welcome to the channel! Thanks so much for your suggestions about the Payne’s Grey Gouache. A couple of other viewers had mentioned that M.Graham is now making a Payne’s Grey and I’m so happy about that because that brand works, especially well in a dry pallet. Someone else mentioned DaVinci gouache I’ve never tried that brand, do you like it? I’ve never heard of the Stoneground brand so I’m going to look that one up. Have lots of fun with your new palette, I love mine. 🎨🤗💜
Rusty palette! I have not been creating much lately, but, this video inspired me to get out my supplies and clean them up! In doing that, it made me so happy and excited, as if I had new materials, that I sat down and did a ton of artwork. Your videos are always so inspiring to me. Thank you for making them. They really make my week.
That makes me so happy Emily! I think it’s a great idea to get our art supplies out and sort and clean them to stimulate our creativity during dry periods. I’m so glad you had a productive day of creativity. Thanks for watching! 🎨🖌️💜
Rusty Palette. Love the tips! The colors are beautiful. I look forward to the floral swatching. ❤ Your girls will look wonderful with those new colors. 😊
Rusty Palette! 😄 it was so fun watching you clean and fill your palette, and hearing your thoughts behind your colour choices. Hope you’re having a great weekend! Lotsa love from Canada!
Hello Linda and thank you for the video. The problem with the M. Graham tube had a familiar ring in that I have a few tubes which have defective caps where I could not screw the caps back on and had to be creative in figuring out an alternative. With your defective tube you may want to clean the excess on the bottom and wrap that section in duck tape; it should work out. 😊
Thanks for watching and commenting! I’ve done the duct tape bandaid with tubes of acrylic before but so far the crimping has worked on the Gouache. It’s not a terribly uncommon thing to have happen with the tubes of M.Graham because it kind of ferments and builds up gases in the tubes. I’ve had tubes that I crimped where the gas is blew the crimps out lol. 😂
Rusty Palette! I love your girls--they always show such intense personalities! I really appreciate that you showed us how to take care of our palettes--it is important to take care of our supplies and tools so they last longer. Of course that means we have to use them and your inspiration helps me do that more often.Thank you Linda!!! Cheers! 🥰💓
Hi Linda. Daniel Smith has a Paymes Grey in gouache. Love your channel. I just ordered some blending medium and am going to try this trick. Have been wanting to set up a dry gouache palette for awhile. This video was really helpful. Thanks from NE VT.
Hi Neighbor! Where in northeast Vermont do you live? We used to live in Morgan. So beautiful up there! After reading through all the suggestions, commenters made, I ended up purchasing some of the M.Graham gouache in Payne’s grey. Good luck with your dry gouache palette!
I love the colors you chose. And I personally LOVE convenience greens❤. I always have liem 4 or 5 in my palette. Im in the middle of taking one of those 24 color palettes and making a half watercolor half gouache palette to see if i like it
Thanks for your suggestion! A couple of other people told me that M. Graham, Daniel Smith, and da Vinci also make a good. Payne’s Grey Gouache so it looks like there are a lot more choices available now than there were a few years ago. 🖌️🎨💜
Rusty palette, I can’t say it enough, your the inner voice in my head when I sit and mess with my paint 😂 I have a list of a few colors I want to try too after seeing yours. Love the video.

I really enjoyed you refreshing your rusty palette! I've been curious about the Sui gouache, but have been doing my darnedest to not buy any new art stuff ❤ Nice to see them and will go on my list for later!
Good morning Linda ❤ RUSTY PALETTE ❤ This was a fun video, and you look so cute in a messy bun! And I found the brand in these pink tubes... Sui gouache... I love these videos. I feel like I'm in your art studio with you just puttering along and chit chatting 😊
Great vid! Sometimes I think we need to rethink painting palettes to either skip a space between colors or ask palette makers to please create palettes that leave some space between each pan. I think that would go a long way in keeping our colors cleaner?
I love how portable the Art Toolkit palettes are but you are so correct about those tiny pans being so close together that it easily pollutes the other paints. I wonder if they could create tiny spacers to give some breathing room?
Rusty Palette. I love love love the colors you have chosen for this palette. I can tell in your voice you were having fun. I don't have gouache paints just yet but I thank you for the tip. I will make sure to get the medium when I get some gouache. Hugs!
Thanks so much for watching all the way through! If you’re new to gouache, I recommend getting a small set at first. It can be tricky to work with and not everyone loves it. On the other hand, acrylic gouache is a lot like acrylics, but with a matt finish. The drawback with acrylic gouache is that you can’t use it in a dry palette. Also, if you use your wash wet instead of dry, you don’t need to add the blending medium. 🖌️🎨💜
@@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Thank you so much for the advise. I will keep that in mind. I do want to use them in a palette. I think I will it better that way. But knowing me I will change up and have to get both kinds. lol. Thanks again
@BeginnersMind-ArtMind your videos make me feel like I'm spending time with an art friend in her studio. Not all creators make me feel that way. I know you've been criticized for saying "oh wow", but to me, that is showing us your genuine self. I like to celebrate that in people and not find things to pick at.

I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video! I had looked Sui up and during editing the video I wrote “Sui Gouache” in text on the screen. I’m curious, were you able to see that? The reason I’m asking is because you’re the second person that’s mentioned it? I’m going to go check the video now to make sure it’s actually there. Thanks for watching! 🖌️🎨💜

@akschauer Thanks so much for getting back to me. That is so crazy and I’m super bummed out about that because there is a huge banner across the screen during the swatching at minute mark 35:41 that says; “I looked it up on Amazon and this brand is spelled Sui”. Those pink & white tubes with the unclear brand name are SUI gouache ...So I guess it's pronounced SU-E - all long vowels.I'm always tempted to try them. They're pretty pricey, but look lovely, esp when you want to paint very delicate florals and the like.
Hi Nancy, it sounds like you might’ve missed it but there is a big text banner across the screen in the video with the correct spelling of the Sui gouache. It comes up during the section where I’m swatching the colors. There is also a link below the video to show viewers where they can purchase them on Amazon.
I have never tried it personally, but you could experiment with it. The reason I never used it was, I thought it might make the paint shiny. I know that doesn’t bother some people, but I like my paint’s flat. Sorry I didn’t have a more definitive answer for you. 🎨🖌️💜

rusty palette… hello, i stoped by to watch and sub to your channel for 2 reasons, 1 you use use a dry gouache palette. i have used a dry gouache palette for about 30 years, i never mix my paint with a binder, not that there is anything wrong with doing that. and yes my gouache cracks like a son of a gun but a few drops of water seems to do the trick… for me anyway. i notice you don’t have any Schmincke , don’t you like them? but you do have some really great Holbein and m.graham. and #2 i like your style.
Hi, welcome to the channel! Thanks so much for subscribing. M.Graham is my favorite but I also use Holbein, Senex and Turner. I have had Schmincke gouache on my Amazon wish/gift list for quite a while but no one has purchased it yet. I’m hoping that one of my viewers grabs it for me for Christmas this year because I would LOVE to try it. I’ve heard really great things about it. 🖌️🎨💜
Yes! So many viewers have commented that they now make Payne’s Grey gouache. When I first bought my tubes, they did not carry it. Definitely doing a happy dance! 💃 Apparently there are quite a few brands now that make it now but out of the ones that my viewers have mentioned M.Graham is my favorite. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sure! Gouache is my favorite medium because it is opaque, completely matte, and can be reworked. Gouache is a tricky medium when your first learning. You need to do your homework, and you really need to use a high-quality gouache, the cheap brands will make you miserable. Once you learn how to use it properly it’s an incredible medium. For people who want something a bit easier to use, but like the matte finish, I recommend acrylic gouache. Acrylic gouache cannot be reactivated which makes it easier to use for beginning gouache users. Also acrylic gouache cannot be used in a dry palette obviously. I personally feel like gouache is more comparable to oils or acrylics than it is to watercolor, even though it’s called opaque watercolor. I hope that information helps! 🎨🖌️💜
@@BeginnersMind-ArtMind Yes, that helped. I probably had a cheaper gouache. It was very fluid, and seemed to get all over the place. I noticed yours was dry. I have watched lots of YT on it, but unless I have a good brand, and work with it, I probably don't know much. I tend to use acrylics and regular watercolors. Thanks for answering.
Hi Gwen, i’m glad you were able to enjoy the video even though you’re not a huge fan of gouache. It’s definitely a tricky medium and not for everyone. Thanks for watching! 🖌️🎨💜
Nancy, Please understand that as a disabled artist, I make videos to help encourage others to create and to do that I show a wide variety of art supplies and various ways of creating. I would never dream of suggesting that someone “must” buy something that I do a video on. I spend a lot of time and energy making these videos to give people ideas on what’s out there and how to use them. Most of the time people really enjoy my videos and they say that it helps to stimulate their creativity. That is and has always been my goal with these videos. I buy all of my Art Toolkit supplies during their yearly seconds sale for a very large discount. These kits are extremely high-quality and very durable. I have put mine in through the wringer lol and nothing damages them. The “rust” is normal surface rust from the magnet, any magnet that is continually exposed to water, will do that. The pans themselves don’t actually rust. It wipes off easily with a damp rag and coating the magnet with oil prevents it from happening. I did not coat my magnet with oil when I originally received my palette years ago. I am not sponsored by Art Toolkit I simply offer a coupon code to my viewers because I believe in the product and I use it almost every day. I have been in the middle of a serious and frightening health crisis for the last couple of months and my last minute decision to use the term “Rusty Palette” as the secret word was meant to be funny but now I see that it was probably a poor choice. I apologize if it misled you to believe that the product was not high-quality.
@ Thank You for that explanation Linda, I greatly appreciate it as yes, I was left with the impression that the quality was, frankly lacking. I understand you have health challenges ( no spring chicken myself, missing a few body parts to Cancer ) & I very much appreciate the time & the effort that goes into making these videos. Because you chose to make this video I now have the option to investigate this item & see if it’s for me…you are a ROCKSTAR & I meant no disrespect with my comment. Cheers
Oh, I’m so grateful for your response. Thank you! You’ve brought to my attention that using the secret word “rusty palette“was a poor choice of words, and I regret it. Between aging and increasing chronic illness symptoms I slip up more often these days and make mistakes in my videos. My husband and I have been chatting about trying to be mindful of when it’s time to stop making them. I’m not quite there yet, but trying to be self-aware lol. I think my viewers will let me know when it’s time to stop 😉 🖌️🎨💜

@cat-annechats5362 No problem, I’m glad it helped!
Love the video but I’m not a big gouche user. Thanks
Hi Gwen, i’m glad you were able to enjoy the video even though you’re not a huge fan of gouache. It’s definitely a tricky medium and not for everyone. Thanks for watching! 🖌️🎨💜

Thanks for watching all the way through 🤗🥰
Rusty Pans??? For what they Charge for this kit one would think they could provide something more durable. I’ll pass thanks!
