- Good afternoon BookTube! I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to show you my Historathon 2024 2nd Quarter pile of possibilities.
HISTORATHON 2024
Historathon is a year-long celebration of reading historical nonfiction. The goal is to read, discuss, and spotlight works of history, and to encourage reluctant readers to give history a try. The calendar year will be divided into three-month blocks, with each block focusing on a particular period of time:
Jan-March = Prehistory-500 CE
April-June = 500-1500
July-Sept = 1500-1820
Oct-Dec = 1820-Present
To participate, simply read a work of history that falls into the time period for each quarterly segment of the year. Read more if you’d like! Tailor the choices to your interests or try something completely new.
Historathon "Side Quests": We will also be encouraging/participating in history-related activities throughout the year, including watching historical films/documentaries, trying historical recipes, listening to historical music, etc. Feel free to join us!

Thanks Stephanie! I am looking forward to digging into them. I think I can actually manage this reading plan. Usually I pick too many books and then I stress out if I don't get them read. I know I shouldn't, but I do. What are you reading this quarter?? Any specific books that you are really excited for?

Hey Bill great video as usual. I didn't realize there was a "sequel" book for 1491 in 1493. I'll have to check that one out, thanks
Thanks Justin! I am really enjoying 1491. I am almost done ... probably finish it up on Saturday. I will take a break before reading 1493. I think I am going to read 1066 next.

Those look great. I love seeing what everyone else is reading. I have a different plague book but this month am concentrating on Vikings 😊
Thanks Debs! I am excited about the stack of books I chose. I am getting close to finishing 1491. It is pretty good. 1066 will probably be my next one for Historathon. Plague will be read after that. I don't think I have very many Viking books. i need to get some one of these days. They have found lots of new stuff in the archaeological digs. Do you have any specific recommendations for the Vikings?

So many interesting books in one video, Bill. My list of Historathon books is so large, I shall.l have to live to 100 to finish my history tbr.

Hi Bill! I hope you're doing well. I guess I should make a Q2 video. I've already finished my first book for Q2, although I'm not sure it counts because it was really hard to focus on. I'm not sure how many I'll get to. My plan is to get through at least three books per quarter.

I seem to be following a sort of Chaucer theme -- both The Canterbury Tales and some Chaucer adjacent nonfiction. Not sure why; I've stopped thinking about these things.

Thanks Bryan! I have never read Chaucer. He always seemed intimidating. Maybe I need to look into it?? I am excited about 1066. I hope I can follow everything. I think I have a basic understanding of the event, but it is definitely not in my wheel house. I don't think I told you but I am reading Shelby Foote volume 2. I know you already plowed through it but I am finally getting around to it. I am about 25% through it. It is good. I am liking the books more this time around.

@billruttenberg Glad you're enjoying Volume 2 of Foote. You'll have a lot of Vicksburg and Gettysburg right smack in the middle, and it's hard to go wrong with that. Well, unless you were there, I guess. 😬 You too on the great week.
