Ken Squier in his prime was the best announcer and race caller out there! But even as early as the early '90 he wasn't as sharp as he used to be, he got out of the big time TV coverage at the right time in his life. Keep in mind Ken and Ned Jarratt always call a few laps for the Southern 500 in Darlington every year!
@@KK-ex5zu I remember around 91 or 92, he'd start getting drivers names wrong. He's call Jimmy Spencer, Jimmy Smith. My Dad would say, "I don't know what race Ken's watching but it sounds more exciting than this one!"
@@JR10_RR Funny my mom would say the same thing during a race, in particular the Daytona 500. Did Ken just call Ken Schrader Rusty Schrader? My dad and his buddies were to loaded to notice Ken Squier's screw ups and she would shake her head like WTF! Fond memories of growing in a family that loved their beers while watching a race, regardless of if it was on the TV or live in person!
And that's the difference in Ken Squier and everyone else. He said it himself. He wanted to tell the tale of the hero. He was fascinated by the speed and the cars, the drivers and the teams, but at the end of the day, the people connect with the story of the hero. And THAT is the ingredient that NASCAR is missing today. And now, all has been made completely clear to me.
I would rather hear ken and ned call the races today. Both are still articulate and speak well and have great memories to share. Not to mention soothing and professional voices. The ending really summed up the state of NACAR today. Those characters that made this sport are dissappearing in favor of 18 year old kids and twitter hashtags. Great black and white footage as well. love ya ken!
@@paulquick8806 You don't have to afraid to voice your opinion. FOX is terrible imo. I stopped watching Racehub after they slide Brian France DUI information right before a commercial break and you could easily see Larry Mac was pissed he couldn't say anything about the situation. Meanwhile NBC talked about Jim France coming in and what that means for the sport.
@@paulquick8806 NBC has Coffee with Kyle and Dale Jr Download. Not to forget that Dirty Mo Podcast probably wouldn't be around if it weren't for NBC getting Dale Jr. Even Kligerman has his own show. I love what NBC is doing with NASCAR coverage and history. They could use some improvements in the Cup Booth tho.
One of those voices engrained in our memory... thank you for the memories Mr.Squier. Check out that cat in the interview @ 14:00 seems a lot of drivers jumping the fence since then : ]
I don’t care what Ken is calling, A snail race, Hermit crab races, Wheel chair racing.. he puts the capital ‘I’ on Intensity. I could listen to him commentate anything. Especially him & gentleman Ned.
Really enjoy your real passion for good journalism. AND, I'm thrilled every time you correctly pronounce the word CHAMPIONSHIP! Please guide all the folks at NBC toward dropping the CHIP! Thanks for all these interviews.
I LOVED hearing Squier call races. His and Barney Hall's voice is woven into my and I'm sure a lot of other folk's past. I hate how goofy race commentating has gotten these days.
Wonder if Thunder Road would have suffered the same fate as Catamount Stadium did because the land value was worth more becoming an industrial park. We will never see a new track in Vermont unless you have deep pockets to pad the politicians. Catamount was a big loss.
If Ken Squier announced my rush hour commute, I would drive it stress free!
The Great American Commute is about to begin.
Thank you being an important part of my childhood
RIP Ken Squirer
Dear Kyle, your genuine and engaged conversations, whether w Ken Squire or the Jarrets, brings out the best in all of them. These are just terrific
Thank you Kyle. Too many emotions to verbalize the thoughts. Ken is one of my hero’s.... as much so as the men that drove the cars.
I bet he could still announce NASCAR races.. not even kidding
Well they do bring him on at Darlington every year.

@@JR10_RR But for real, in Ken's early MRN radio days he was as sharp as sharp could get and he made the drivers sound like gods during a broadcast!
I'd love to See Bob Jenkins and Allen Bestwick on this Show
Me too!!!!
The Vin Scully of NASCAR. LEGEND.
Ken Squier is a National Treasure.Thank you for all you have done for this sport sir.
Keep these coming. As a 26-year-old race fan, I missed the good ol' days, so it's nice to see them laid out for me to learn from.
The greatest NASCAR broadcaster in history.
In terms of strictly NASCAR, yes!
Absolutely! Top three, for television anyway, Squier, Bob Jenkins, and Mike Joy.
Ken Squire was the greatest ever

Love this series!!!! Could sit and listen to Kyle talk to the legends of our sport for hours.

They need more people who aren't consumed in their days racing.
R.I.P. Ken. You were the best 🙏
Ken is THE voice of nascar
Coffee with Kyle Episodes are a real delight. Great job Kyle Petty
These shows are fantastic, great job Kyle and the production team!
Every word is Golden. Great job, gentlemen. Keep 'em coming, Kyle!
This video alone is better than anything NASCAR on FOX does every week.
Thank you i was scared to be the first
Agreed, the history of the sport should be something included in the broadcasts every week.

The voice of CBS when my father grew up watching Nascar
As a younger fan its super cool to see the some of the history of NASCAR, once again thank you NBC for this piece of art!
Thank You Kyle Petty!!! These are the absolute best. 😍
Outstanding! Thank you for these great interviews.

Kyle does a really great job with these. Keep 'em coming.
Best Ken Squier line: At Talladega, coming to the checkered flag, "FIVE SECONDS TO PAY DIRT..."
Ken Squire The Greatest announcer to ever walk the face of the earth!
Ken squier’s voice is the exact opposite of Adam Alexander. Everything he says sounds great
I LOVED hearing Squier call races. His and Barney Hall's voice is woven into my and I'm sure a lot of other folk's past. I hate how goofy race commentating has gotten these days.
Don't forget "..that Jones boy" lol. Loved this.
Hey Ken Squier do you have any of those (ribbon mic's) laying around?

Ken at the car show in Vermont
Ken Squire was the best
Best part was the very end.
Only the best ever !!!!!
Miss the real NASCAR...
"Ken Squier, CBS Control . . ."
he had a career with Kyle Petty?

What would Ken think of the Playoffs?
Does Kyle even know how to make coffee
Oh and i forgot Larry McRenolds, so so annoying.
