coogan is awesome. Partridge is the best british comedy character.... possibly of all time. and his story is thus far is being perfectly played out, for over 20 years!!! the continuity is spot on and the growth and development of key characters over time is outrageous. I watched 2 episodes of Alan Partridge 15 years ago and didnt really get it. The same day i watched one more episode and found the funniest comedic character i think (to this day) that i will ever find. genius. if rumours are to believed.... new series is coming in the next 12 months.
@@david-pb4bi tbh i watched a bit of it and its really not my thing. comedy needs to be clever to some extent imo. The Blackadder2 series with queenie is just incredible.
I remember seeing the interview with Joanna Lumley, I loved it where she did the 'buy it now - it's in the basement!' bit, and the bit at 16:04 where she leans forward and asks who did Help The Aged. I found that bit quite entrancing for some reason. She's a warm, clever, very funny and beautiful woman.
Very surprised to see Alan not offsetting that Stirling Moss sports casual look with button down shirt collars - those clinically pressed corners, in my opinion, raise his game a notch above the standard of your normal riff raff guest. 👔
It’s totally the bright witty ‘Alan’ from the second he appears. Few people achieve such brilliance, in fact I can only think of two others - Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson!
So many layers here: Alan Partridge is a fictitious presenter hired by the real BBC / Norwich Radio, who shoots a man dead (not real), and subsequently has a realistic documentary made about his career and is interviewed here by Clive Anderson (real) all while staying in character. Somewhere inside all these guises is the absolutely genial Steve Coogan. Love it!
Not a big fan of the Bee Gees, and though even Barry Gibb takes himself too seriously in my opinion, Clive Anderson is a smarmy c***, and slightly condescending methinks!
That was his whole deal. He was a bit more aggressive and much funnier than most interviewers at the time. The BeeGees just had ZERO sense of humour about it. They took themselves far too seriously.
After! He says he's had a walk off recently. And they didn't destroy him. People thought they hilariously overreacted, and the show kept going for years.
Joanna is so naturally funny and is delight to watch her humoring this "lawyer". Coogan was eye rolling a few times. His "anderson"s greatest moment was the night of the Bee Gee's..When Big Baz said..."your a wanker! Happy days.

@@ianhitman There are few people on here genuinely slagging Anderson off. I take the point though. Alan's show was perhaps the most ambitious and daring interpretation of a "chat-show" Ive seen. The unfortunate short-sightless of the BBC - easily goes down as the biggest "what if" in broadcasting history. Playing in character, remembering the history of said character, and being witty with the great Clive; now that's comedy genius.
Coogan is so so sharp in his wit. A comic genious & someone that really found his natural way in life.

Another legend.
Clive Anderson's chat show was a delight back in the day

top drawer stuff
He is The Daily Mail on two legs.
And Coogan is the Guardian on two legs.
Clive Anderson had the Gold medal for asking questions and then relentlessly interrupting the answers.

Hi PPotter. Do you have the rest of this episode with Wesley Snipes?
yes all about bloodlines ///
