Learning how to use VoiceMeter was very frustrating for me, but it finally clicked. There are a few simple things that were never explained about this program that once I learned made using it very easy. I decided to make a tutorial that would explain how each different part of this program works, but most importantly, you'll know WHY it works, as well as how to set it up for new programs and have full control over how your route your audio. Enjoy!
By the end of this in depth tutorial, you will be able to:
Setup VoiceMeeter Banana
Setup Virtual Audio Cable
Setup your microphone hardware input
Setup your heaphones or speaker hardware outputs
Integrate Discord into Voicemeter for your stream
Combine your audio and route it to OBS or XSplit
Setup OBS or XSplit to accept audio from Voicemeeter
Send game audio + microphone + music to Twitch or Beam
Send game audio + Discord to only your headphones
Switch around any combination of these that you want
I really tried to make this video as simple as possible. Some parts I might have over explained, but rather than having to watch 10 different videos on how to use this program you should be able to just watch this one video and be done with it. can you tell me simply how i use voice meeter in obs so that who i talk to and what they say back doesn't get broadcasted but only the ingame sound does. i use a seinheiser microphone and headset to listen to audio and also the built in mic to chat in ts with other people.
TheToastMan just dont route your microphone to anything but your headphones.

So your pc really doesn't have a separate microphone and headphones jack?
I'm not sure if this will work or not, and it's really difficult to guess without being able to try it myself. When you use Discord now, can you hear it playing through your headset? If the answer is yes, then what do you have set as the output in Discord? Is the output set as your headset or as your microphone?
I've followed several 'tutorials' and such about how to do this, and failed to set it up. Half-way through your guide and I figured out the rest and finally isolated my discord from my streams. Thank you very much for posting this, isn't it great that two years later your guide is still helping folks out? :)

This is one of the best tutorial videos I've ever seen. I was definitely feeling the pain of reading several guides, watching several videos that tell you what to click to get the job done, but none of them really explained why they were selecting those buttons or how the software actually works. I feel like now I actually understand how to use this tool that almost seems to be a necessity for streaming these days.

Hey Jess, thanks for the tutorial. It pointed me in the right direction, but it's not quite accurate. B1 & B2 are not the Virtual Inputs VAIO & AUX. B1 & B2 are *outputs*, just like A1, A2 & A3, (except they're virtual). The 5 small sliders on the right control all the outputs, while the 5 big sliders control the inputs. The VAIO & AUX inputs are are software inputs just like the hardware inputs - but because they're virtual, there's no hardware to attach them do. You can demonstrate this by muting the AUX virtual input in Step 8 and you'll still get audio in OBS. However, if you mute the B2 Virtual Output on the right, you'll lose the desktop audio in OBS. Notice how the meter on the AUX input isn't registering any audio at 12:10 - that's because it's an input, not an output, and it's labelled that way. It's worth pointing out, too, that you can use the AUX input just like you're using the virtual cable - it's essentially a virtual cable that's built into VoiceMeeter Banana.
I had to rewind a couple times to fully understand, but this was a wonderfully made video. You helped me a lot.
i seam to get no game sounds but discord is working fine got any ideas?

I've been trying all day to separate discord audio onto a separate track from my microphone and game audio and i finally could because of this tutorial so thanks!
I have a question - if you put in the input of any app your orginal mic, as is shown in the video, then people in that app won't hear the "effects" or comp or gate or whatever you are doing in voice meeter, they will just hear your regular mic talking, right? then how do i allow people to hear those settings?? i am really confused because that is the main point of all of this.
"Click set default" Proceeds to mute my speakers so I cant hear you anymore.

Go to Banana and set the "Hardware Out" to your speakers. Then when you set the "Hardware Input" you'll be able to hear again.

Man, you confused the crap out of me with the B1/B2 thing. Selecting B1 on any input routes that audio to VoiceMeeter Output. Selecting B2 routes the audio to VoiceMeeter Aux Output. It has nothing to do with the Virtual Inputs, and they are not identical.
Yep. All the routing is well explained in the user manuals. A1,A2,A3,B1,B2 are all mix buses. A1,A2,A3 can each be connected to a specific output device (speakers/headsets), B1,B2 appear in the audio recording devices list and can be used to route audio into applications.
True, I'm really confused also. You need to read the manual to understand and correct this tutorial.

I have only been playing with this for a few days and read through the manual. Totally do not even need to install the additional VB cable unless you need 3 virtual inputs...
He totally absolutely definitely confused the *beep* out , when he wrongly mentions ( on minute 7.59) that the Voicemeeter VAIO is B1 and the Voicemeeter AUX VAIO is B2..........forget it , it's wrong, B1 and B2 are labeled in the "MASTER SECTION" , they are the two last faders and they are recording outputs and work together with the cassette recorder ( i.e you will not be able to hear them through Voicemeeter.. The Voicemeeter VAIO and AUX VAIO are inputs and should be available as Audio Devices in your other pieces of software ( VLC, WIndows Media, any DAW , etc ). It is a pity , because otherwise the video is relatively helpful.
i just start streaming & doing video recording a couple of months ago. i noticed that all my videos got bad audio output . & some of my viewers complaining about bad quality audio . i watched & follow this tutorial of yours. good work bro. thank you very much. now i can stream again with a good quality sounds. i like & subs now .2 thumbs up for this vid bro

I can't get OBS to record any other sound than discord and my own mic. How do i get it to record my game sound??
You will need to set on B2 at B1 (voicemeeter vajo)

tyvm, was messing long time with banana. finally i found someone who was able to explain this simple and on point
Okay so this is alot more helpful than the other videos I could find. However- I still CANNOT get the voicemeeter Aux to have anything BESIDES the things displayed in voice meeter banana. No matter what game I play, no matter how I tweak. The cloned one, Aux gets 0 blips of audio on that black bar that displays sound levels, beside the front-L-R-rear square. I did notice however that if I routed it so that my music goes through Aux and then the stream uses aux. The stream does then pick up the music that I am playing along with microphone, but nothing else. Those are the 2 I have set up through a cable and my physical microphone, in voicemeeter.
Okay so I think my issue is that the B2 should not Exist. It doesnt recieve default audio, it ONLY recieves what you give it from banana. So you give the stream everything except the things you have routed through a virtual audio cable. By giving it the B1 virtual input and then making it so that my virtual cable outputs to neither b1 or b2 but instead straight to speakers. From what I tested it works. Stream isnt getting music from VLC but is getting my mic, my voice, my game and whatever web pages I am browsing.
is there a way to use vlc through voicemeeter though as i use that for my music. hope you have solved your issue btw too.
@@denmarkmafiamusicliveuk9368 yes you can but its a bit buggy and you may need to restart the apps you using in this case VLC , go over right bottom corner speaker icon on your desktop, right click and click open sound settings, you will see at the bottom a large icon says advance sound settings, click it and choose where the output of which program you use will go through .
@@3DArtcore or just use the settings in VLC itself... much more stable.
give vlc its own cable to a strip then click b2 on that strip

@@richard2mitchell I don't know, if you still need this, but you have to link your Desktop audio (B1) to your stream output (B2). So just press the B2 in the B1 column and you're good to go ;)

Dude thank you this makes my audio sound so much better! quick note if anyone is using OBS to record or do live stream make sure the A1 mic you select to turn un click the A1 button( Turn it off sop you do not get feedback from your mic) , also use the "noise gate filter" in OBS by right clicking on your channel and adding it gets rid of all the white noise and background noise sounds real sharp and professinal. Great video!
When I link the CABLE INPUT to discord it makes everything sound delayed, Is there any sort of fix for this?

Great video, however you are confusing outputs with inputs! B1 and B2 are virtual OUPUTS (the sliders bottom right), and are connected to the recording devices in Windows settings (VoiceMeeter Output and VoiceMeeter Aux Output). The sliders you are referring to as B1 and B2 are virtual INPUTS, and are individual (not copies of each other). They are connected to the playback devices in Windows (VoiceMeeter Input and VoiceMeeter Aux Input).
Michael Bennett How do I get B2 to also receive windows sounds along with B1?
I have tried selecting B2 at the B1 menu but it won't send the audio over :(
kimnig Depending how you have set it up your desktop audio will be on either Voicemeeter VAIO (which is preferred), or on Voicemeeter AUX.. To route the audio to B1 and B2 you need to enable the B1and B2 buttons on the VAIO or AUX slider that has your desktop audio. Hope that helps

Hey, discord audio is being played through my mic? however if i turn B2 off (under hardware input2) my stream cannot hear people on discord?

when i select voice meeter input it just makes my heaphones not work. then i cant hear the tutorial
I'd watch the entire video through once or watch it on your phone. It's just one of those things, you wont be able to mess with audio settings while continuing to listen to the video.
I love how I cant have Banana open when on youtube though. start up VB get youtube playback error, shut it down youtube fine again

DUDE YOU HAVE NOOOOOOO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS HELPED ME!!! I've been having SOOOOOO many audio issues recently and this REALLY helped me. I was trying to have 2 Audio outputs setup so I can hear and talk on one headset and my wife on the other since she games with me and was having SUCH a hard time (along with having a soundboard too and discord) and this fixed ALL my issues!!!!!! thank you ever so much! ill be sure to shout u out on my stream man! MUCH appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I did a private youtube stream to test the settings and it all worked like a charm)

change your audio input on your taskbar, click the audio symbol on your task bar, if you have more than one driver for audio, change it to the one you previously used.
Hey Great Video. Cable input is not an option in the Output Devices in Discord. Though there is a Cable Output on the Input selector in Discord. Any Idea how to troubleshoot this?

I think you should add an annotation to tell people that the need to make sure they actually have "Voicemeter BANANA" and not just regular Voicemeter. In the video you showed clicking the link to the regular Voicemeter and so I did as well. They have different buttons. I was confused as hell. I'll update later to let you know how things went after I found out the mistake I made.
When you download the program it downloads both versions.
Oh, it didn't for me. It just dl'ed the regular version. But I found it eventually.

Upgrade to Voicemeeter Potato, it has individual program mute buttons

Is your default recording device the output of voicemeeter?
i already thought about this problem.. i think its because the B1 is only send to your headphones and not to B2, B2 should be OBS and Xplit, but im not sure since i havent tried it myself
I think that's only because when previewing the video file, it has problems playing multiple audio tracks and letting you hear them. I'm sure if you drop the video into a video editor like Vegas or Premiere, the multiple audio tracks will be there & play in the preview.

One error:
Under "Virtual Inputs", Voicemeeter VAIO and Voicemeeter AUX are *inputs*. B1 and B2 under the master section are *outputs*. They aren't the same.
Tried setting this up to hopefully eliminate the latency when monitoring my mic through my wireless headphones.... didn't help =\ tried all different driver configs
I have the same problem! Tried mixing mic (from hardware input 1) with music through audio cable, also tried mixing mic from Hardware input 1 with music played through choosing Voicemeter Input as default device for sound. Both ways I got the mic to come about 1 second later than the music. I need that to get better and don't know how to do it.

Anyone else having problem with discord not changing the output to Cable? I put it to cable but the sound still comes out to the "windows sound" anyone has a suggestion what might be the problem?
did you select the proper buttons under the discord section? click A1 to route it to your headphones and deselect everything else. If it doesn't work I can't tell you what exactly you're doing wrong, but just know it does work and it is possible, lots of people use it this way.
I guess you found out by now but if anybody else is having this problem make sure to set 'CABLE Output' in the Recording-tab of your Windows Sound settings as default.

you lost me at virtual cables. I don't have that option.
Install the virtual cables then go to your windows 10 settings, then to system, then to sound, then go to the top left where it says ''Sound control panel'', then right click in an empty space, then click something that says ''Show Deactivated Devices'' and make it Enabled, then whenever you see something about VoiceMeeter, enable it, make it ready, don't leave it deactivated. This is the most I can do, goodluck!

Yep same problem, because the only audio device selected in OBS is the freakin mic, but when i Add the dekstop audio i have game sound but also get the discord sound dubble....
@@JiMiXLRoX Pretty much the problem I was having with Streamlabs OBS. I just decided not to disable desktop audio device 1. Seems to be fine when I record. Yet to have Discord up while recording but I don't use Discord in streams/recording anyway. Still a bit odd that you get no sound from anything bar your voice but at least everything can be heard now lol

That's because Input is what's going into the program, I.E. your mic. It's not meant to be a playback device.
