Have you ever grown an orchid in water?

- Your orchids aren’t afraid of a little water!
There are so many ways to grow orchids and orchids in water are so much fun! The trick is to ensure you don’t fill the container the entire way of water, just 1/3 and replace once a week. If your water evaporates throughout the week, don’t refill until it’s time to change what’s left of the water at the end of the week.
Fridays are my usual changing of water for my plants I water and I remember to fertilize the first day of the month when it’s not in bloom.
If you struggle with orchids, don’t be afraid to give it a try.
I tried rescuing an orchid, it was about to die, saw your previous video about putting them in water and she’s doing great!!! No blooms yet but she started growing another leaf - I’m so proud!
Just so you know Phalenopsis like the one in this video tend to bloom once or twice a year, so when it does it's reason to get excited!!
The fact that it is growing a leaf is a VERY good sign! It will give you a bloom when it is ready. They usually bloom once every year or 2 so a long rest is normal.
Mine did too! shes the best 🥰
But it’s different plant, first was yellow with big flowers, and now with small flowers and another coloure
@@nadjavaljakka6358 She showed us her speckly pink Orchid that was blooming, that she keeps in water. Then, she showed us how to "repot" an Orchid form bark into water, using a different plant. She had to do that to show us how to change the growing medium, because hers was already in water.
I inherited all of my grandma’s plants, including four orchids. I followed your tutorial on growing orchids in water, and now one regrew a whole stem and has buds, and another is regrowing part of its old healthy stem!
Honestly, putting my orchid in water was the best thing I ever did for it !
I am 100% on board with the hydroponics content!! Thank you so much
Thank you so much!!!!
It’s much easier to put your orchid in LECA clay pellets, so you won’t completely cover the root in water, the root needs air as well.
Water contains oxygen... you just need to change the water periodically.
Saya sependapat sekali. Terimakasih🙏
I don't cut the healthy spikes once done blooming. They have bloomed from the ends of the spikes while giving me additional spikes🥰
woah i never knew they could grow in water, now i need to set up a fish tank with a ton of orchids growing from the top. right now i just have one with pothos and monstera growing out
They cant rly, they can survive, but wont thrive in water. This is one of those "sensational" videos.
@@thea7826 what about in water with fertilizer in it? I grow a lot of hydroponic plants but my orchids are in soil. Wanted to try it but don't want to risk losing my orchids as they are old.
@@thea7826 even with the fertilizer? A lot in the comments are saying their plants are doing well. I don’t know anything about it really.
@@rebeccaspratling2865 you can go for the semihydroponic method with orchids, having water reservoir at the bottom of the pot and using inorganic medium as leca beads or seramis, this way the orchid will have airy media, but it is much easier to care for/water and it can grow and thrive this way - im talking about the moth orchid here as is shown in the video, not all orchids can handle this method. Growing orchids in water alone is complete opposite to how they grow in the wild - their roots are in the air, not in the ground, thats why they cant/wont thrive in water. For semihydrophonic videos with orchids you can check out youtube channel Astrid.
@@rockjockchick you have to fertilize orchids, they are quite hungry fellas,de epnding on species, but growing them in water is the oposite of how they grow in the wild - they grown in the air, their roots are in the air(talking about the moth orchid as shown in video) thats why we grow them in airy media as pine bark, leca beads, seramis... and not in water.
I just LOOOOOOOOOVE your energy 💜💜 that little dance for the bloom, GIRL! That's what I do 😂😂 I get juiced and just found the first orchid rebloom ever!
You just saved my orchids…
I was about to throw them away… thanks 🥰
Love orchids, but they have a reputation for needing extra special care. You showed so many helpful tips. More orchid videos!
MINE BLOOMED TOO!!! I rescued orchids from a local, and I have never owned one!! Now I have 7! 😍 I’m slowly learning!! Thank you!!
orchids secretly love water or Neglect. Just not the inbetween. As long as their roots are not in soil they seem to do fine. Mine live in orchid bark mostly in my laundry and will spike even when I straight up neglecting my plants for months.
This is a sign of stress 😭
@@ryanlequire861 not for mine. They love water. Stick an orchid in a laundry with an unvented dryer and as long as it has light it will love the humidity. Modt orchids come from high humidity environments in the jubgle.
Neighbours moved out and left a dead looking Orchid by the bins, them store bought 1s white pot....
That was 18 months ago, I went with the water option, I have 2 new leaves new stem and 4 buds. Really hoping to see them bloom but it's getting very late in summer...
Thanks for the advice
Found the video! Thank you. ❤️ I'm going to start transitioning my orchids from a mix to water.
Here for the update! How are they doing now?
Need an update too!!
SOS!! URGENT!! Can you PLEASE talk about tips to prevent mold when growing orchids in water?? I need help!! 🥺
i love hydroponics!
do i need special hydroponic-orchid-fertilizer or just regular liquid orchid-fertilizer?
I have a bunch of orchids that i rescued. Most of their roots were decayed so removed them, treated with hydrogen peroxide and now i have them on/off in water trying to grow new roots. So far so good.
Hydrogen peroxide for life!
I wanted to say thank you!! All of these blooms are new, since I did what you said. Growing this plant in water, now I’m tempted to keep going with my other orchids
Firstly....I adore your energy & love of plants. I've been orchid challenged 😞 I finally got mine to bloom this yr 😀 & its a total love thing lol ❤️ & I laugh cause I was doing a happy dance & telling my orchid....you're amazing looking at you blooming....and did a happy dance lol. Its so joyful interacting with plants. Thanks for sharing your passion of plants ❤️
I have an orchid collection. I don’t need this information. And you are mad!! But I can’t stop watching your videos 😂 love your madness and addiction I have the same addiction with orchids ❤❤ 🙊🙈🤗
Oh, well good for you lol
Krystal you’re so helpful and have the best energy. Thank you for existing on youtube!❤
I like you and your videos so much. You are hilarious and it shows that you really love plants. Thank you for sharing. God bless you cutie pie and keep your videos coming. 🌱🪴💕
HEY, can u make a Spanish version and explain what type of soil you need for an orchid and how to take care of it. I’m trying to tell my mom to take her orchid 😓❤️
I tried this but they grew mold/fungus. Idk why, changed water and everything. Stunk up my kitchen and was generally a disaster, lost all my orchids 😩 I had had them previously for a few years in regular bark so needless to say I was devastated lol
How much water did you have them sitting in? The roots will rot if there's too much water. Personally having water all the time rotted mine so I had to do a 3 day wet, 3 day dry cycle
@@joshualawton57 I thought the same so barely any at all; I kept only a slight bit at the bottom for the roots to soak up but this white mold grew all over the entire root structure and part of the stem. Was a total loss of my orchids.
@@storeboughtramonaflowers when the roots go dry they turn to a pale white/green colour so it might have just been that. If you do ever try again the go 1/4 up the roots with water for 3 days then fully drain it for 2-3 days. On the dry days you'll want the roots to be that weird pale white/green colour
@@joshualawton57 I understand you and thank you for your advice. I've taken care of plants for 15 years. 💜 It was extremely putrid smelling and definitely mold. They died out.
We got an orchid years ago, she's still alive, but didnt bloom since. Her stem just gave babies all the time, some we could propagate. Now we have the momma orchid and 3 baby orchids. All stemless, still waiting for something to happen 😆🙈 hope we can get a new stem and blooms from one of them 🙏
How'd you propagate an orchid?!?! I have like 6 rescues and have wanted to try an prop them!
@@alyssawoodruff5914 we didn't propagate on our own, the main orchid just build babies instead of blooms on the stem, dont know why, we aren't orchid experts 😆 so there were like mini orchids on the stem, we waited till they had 2-3 roots, then cut it off and put it in orchid bark, thats it 🤷♀️
I have an orchid on its second bloom since I became ill after surgery and rather than let her die I just filled the pot with water. The buds that usually shrivel and die for me plumped up and now I have an amazing show of new flowers. I never ever had a second bloom on any orchid I’ve owned in 50 years until this one. I feed her once a month with house plant food and she looks amazing with dense green shiny leaves too.
My Orchid was a $2.00 discount from the grocery store. Repotted in Orchid bark on the bottom, long fiber sphagnum moss in the middle and more bark on top. I mist it everyday and fully water it and let it drain once a month. It still has its spike and 2 new buds and a new leaf. First one I've been able to keep alive.
Dude, you are way too cute! 😂 Well done & thanks for the tips!
I was JUST about to give up on an orchid of mine I’ve had for 9 months. Thanks for the tip! There’s always HOPE!
I love this idea!! Thanks
Honestly I have learned so much from her channel. And she has fun doing it
Love that scream of joy.😂😂 ❤
In some cases most if not all of the leaves will die off before regrowing then. It's normal as the plant needs to acclimatize to the change in media.
Hay so uh…grocery store roses? I’m determined to keep these things alive I would love a few tips!!!!
Step one ✅ What type of lighting do they require though? I’m so excited!
Nevermind I see. Love your videos!
Got a cattleya I rescued in water. Roots vibrant now. Think I might try growing in water. Have two Volcano Sunsets and might see what difference it will make. Will do with next Phalaenopsis I rescue
I felt so bad because for one I'm not a plant person, and kill everything by accident. A beauty event had a purple orchid as decoration and I didn't know it was real and it sat in my car for days with the decorations in a plastic tote. When I unloaded it and found out it was real I just watered it and kept it in my kitchen for years and never thought anything of it. My friend who's big into plants was mind blown when I told her that I just leave it be because she said it was healthy and they're hard to keep alive without maintenance
Love your video.
I just love your excitement. 😊🤗🥰🌱🌿
Sh3s blooming!❤ oh i feel the joy!🌸🌸🌸
I just did this last night to mine. Thanks 😊😊😊
Don't the roots rot? It is fantastic!
I have lost many orchids from excess moisture. Do you have a very warm house?
🤗❤️I am conflicted because I love putting them on my palm trees. But I also love them in glass vases throughout the house. Yours are so healthy!
Just another easier maintenance for those that dont or struggle with watering plants.
Obeez are great!!!!!!
Ive used them over 2 years in my lucky bamboo, orbeez water and keep roots damp and realse water slowly, then fill up about 2-3weeks with fresh water 😁
Thank you for sharing Krystal!! May I ask what kind of fertilizer you use with Orchids in water, my Mom's Orchid is in water but not thriving as well!!
You’re a dork… I love it!!🤣
Its so funny cause I simply have an orchid in one of those self watering pots. And I also have it on my window sill with direct sunlight.
I do absolutely nothing to it but water it when the level gets low. And it has like 8 blooms already! (The last ones died off for the first time after 2 years last November)
*When do you want to put them into water and in what situation do you want to put it into bark??*
_I just put up an _*_"orchid orphanage"_*_ and im getting a bunch of horribly kept plants!_
*And id like to try this!!*
🧐🤔😁🤷🏼
Please Doctor Krystal tell me the truth🤷♀️🤦♀️ I've put in soil just the roots of a dying orchid and I really wish she won't die completely 🤞🙏 🤯🤯🤯🤯🙏
I love your content. Even with my device volume at high I can barely hear you. Maybe a microphone will help. 😊
Try headphones. Her volume is fine.
Não precisa cortas as hastes e nem jogar fora a flor. Aminha estava idêntica e se regenerou forte e maus bonita que estava.
Ô povo que adira uma tesoura hein!
I don't cut the bloom spikes back until they're completely brown so I can tell where I need to cut them back to
I didn’t know that you could do that with these. Awesome. My mother in law gave me hers. It hasn’t bloomed since she first got it and that was 7 years ago. I received it. It has one leaf. It’s trying to bloom. I think. But I don’t want it to die. Tried repotting it but it was in terrible shape.
Bravo c’est incroyable quand j’achète un orchidées il faut vraiment la changer de pot car les racines sont déjà or du pot bravo encore merci ♥️♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🇧🇪
My mom.has three we still have them on the same pot they came in . But she lives in a assisting living in her owen apartment. We have them on the regular lamps and they are doing very well.
I have had 4 orchids for YEARS and no blooming!!. I do fertilize with miracle grow orchid food (spray bottle) they are in orchid mulch but I'm gonna try your way n c if I get a change.
Just moved my orchid to water based off following this video! Question, how often do I fill more water/top it off?
I need to get another orchid and try again. Orchids seems to hate me lol
Omg so happy I found your video, my orchid was dying and hopefully she will like water better than whatever I was doing before lol 😂
I need to try that. I love all kinds of plants. You're so hilarious by the way. Love your vids. ❤😂
😂So cute. Great video. Very Informative.
The Byeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeh with jazz hands got me lol
😮😮👍🏾 so can I wait until the flowers wilt to do this?
I seriously love your channel ❤
Until I watched your videos, I thought my orchids' silver roots were normal, but no - I've been over watering!
I just killed another orchid. That's about 24 for me. Love them, can't grow them...even with books and videos. Thanks for your instructions though. Maybe next time! 😅
She was almost surprised to see healthy roots 🤣
Thinking about transferring all of my orchids to water culture. They are so beautiful in water ❤
I just got 3 baby orchids. Im going to try this with 2 of them. Thanks!!
Wow these can grow in water??? Im sooo trying this!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can you make a video on making new baby orchids from orchid clippings??🥹🥹 I’ve been wanting to grow my own orchids but I don’t want to clip a stem off then it dies😅
Honest question, what fertilizer do I use? I recently am trying to save my dying orchid from my forgetful parents, and it has complete root rot and it’s moss is rotted too, so waters the next best thing for the time being
I’ve been using better grow orchid plus for years now.
@@PlantswithKrystal Tysm! I’ll try that, and hopefully the orchid will have a full recovery.
They do very well with their roots hanging in a fish aquarium too.
I bought a boot tray today, thanks to you. I have an orchid with lovely dark green leaves but hasn’t bloomed again. 😢
Im in love with her😁
I need more videos on germs and aloe plants lol
I've gotta try this! Orchids come to me to die BUT, I shall try one more time...... 😪
Okay Im definitely trying this bc my bloom cycle just ended & I had no Idea how to restart it again
I just put mine in charcoal water one a week for 5 mins I do mist it everyday it’s dry in Colorado
WHAAAAT!! Omg, I need to do this now!!
Omg thank you 🙏 ❤
I'm not an orchid expert, but I've been collecting for over six years. This is a temporary solution to rehab orchids. What the author DIDNT show you is the mass amount of roots that died because they sat in water for a year. The 2nd bloom is likely due to the orchid feeling stressed. You can see that it is NOT a new spike; It is coming out of a node from the previous flower spike. I cN understand seeing a flower and thinking you're doing a great job, but oftentimes, phalaenopsis will bloom again as a last-ditch effort for their continued survival. ANOTHER THING..... the before and after look like 2 different specimens... orchid can change colors, but it's not going from light yellow to a mottled dark purple.
Anyone looking for real advice, if you insist on using water was your growing medium, I strongly advise adding leca but even then water is not a permanent fix for an orchid!!!! They grow on rocks, in trees, NOT IN WATER (or straight soil).
I love plants this much lol
my mom likes plants and has had orchids on and off but never managed to get them to bloom again after they come home. I must send this to her!
QUESTION: Will an orchid grow a new 'branch' ? I've one that's dead, and the other has only one node on the bottom. Will it be shorty forever? And after bloom, I'll have no more nodes.
What's the best way to remove a cactus from a spot without having to use special gloves to take it out?
Awesome!
Oh wow, I didn't know that! I will try that in my small aquarium tank! THANKS!
Oooo I’ma try it!! I have a cold house a lot of the time where would be the best place to put an orchid?? In the window?? It’s under a covered porch so it’s not direct sunlight. Or near our fireplace??
How did your flower changed colors just transferring it to water?
I’ve been doing this for over a year and I get 2 blooms a year the weekly water change and getting the crown soaked are crucial
Can you do one for amaryllis flowers? I just bought one already planted in a pot at the store and 1 I planted from a kit and not 100% sure how to care for it.
I honeslty have my blooming in no soil or anything. Just sits on my toads home getting humidity from below. They're pretty much resilient lil babies ☺️
@@alyssawoodruff5914 on your toads? What does that mean? Mine are in the pots that they came with inside the house, but the pots don't have drainage holes😒
I’m literally here for just this, got my orchid sat there looking at me to hurry up. 😊
You crack me up
Thanks I'm off to buy a orchid 😃
Krystal, love your short videos! Could you tell us if you use any fertilizer in the water? What does the orchid get the nutrients from? Thank you! 😊🙏🏻 gabriela
In the video she mentions fertilizer
I just would like to know what kind of fertilizer. Is it specific for hydroponics?
Mantab sekali. Saya juga, tapi saya tidak pakai air sumur melainkan air kemasan. Kalau air sumur mudah membusuk
I have an orchid on wet green foam, but it’s looking bad. Should I replace the green wet foam? 😩 I never know how to take care of an orchids but watching ur videos is gonna help me but don’t know wat to do in this case.
Very cool! Can you do this keikis?
