First time hearing the song, and just wow although I can barely understand the lyrics, it still gives me chills~ I watched a lot of anime op, but I don't think anything ever sounded better.
The animation quality of this opening looks so good for a 1998 game that it resembles something that came out during 2002 - 2007 aka the time when anime that came out before bluray releases and 720p-1080p were a thing.
Thank Production I.G. Even today, they're still unrivaled. MAPPA and Ufotable might be all the rave now but the shows they produce have this weird inconsistency with them especially during non action scenes. Production I.G and Studio Wit (part of the same company IG Port and formerly known as Production I.G Division 6) shows just are consistent down from the calm moments to action.
Legendary voice of Sakura by Yokoyama Chisa. Back in 90's she also voiced the role of Galaxy Fraulein Yuna and Pretty Sammy. I love her voice. It is sad that I don't hear her voice in modern anime anymore T T
Incredibly enough, she STILL voice anime characters, and portrays as Sakura even in stage shows, like one this year. It's just that most animes uses the new branch of voice actresses instead. She is a living legend, surely.
I was looking for this version with HD sound quality, Thank you!!! now i know this version is complete in the Sakura Wars Complete Song Box launched in 2002
Impressive. The game is 21 years old and the OP animation, especially from the half mark onward DESTROYS even most current anime OPs in terms of fluidity. What amazes me even more is how well the CG mechs blend in with the cell animation here. I'm a huge sucker for mech anime throughout all decades and even nowadays most studios aren't able to produce nice looking CG mechs, not even Surise with let's say their most current Gundam entry, Gundam Origin (final movie came out just last year - amazing stuff btw.) was able to do CGI right. And here a 21 year old game does it better than modern animation studios do... At a time when CG in openings was totally new ground and generally looked awkward. SEGA, pls HD remaster the games and bring them to the west! Perhaps if Project Sakura Wars sells it might happen.
It's also worth noting that part of the reason why the Sakura Taisen animation back in the day looks really good is because of Production I.G. Up till now, this studio delivers. Studio Wit is also branch of Production I.G and that's just a testament of how good they are as a studio. Most animators in Japan do not even look at them as an animation Studio but as an animation lab. Work List: productionig.com/contents/works/
Just got done replaying this game. I went for Sumire’s ending with Orihime, Reni, and Maria in the other top 3 spots in case I want to reload from episode 9 and get their endings too. Mannnn, what a beautiful game.
My first play trough was similar to yours. I wanted end with Sumire, but when Reni had a birthday in same day when Miracle Bells, i thinked: ,,I would be a total jerk, if i would not choose Reni for main role in spectacle''. And i made a nice birthday present for Reni :)
this is a restored version though, the quality of the image was not as good on the Saturn. That said, the raw material is quite good, but a lot of RPGs had these type of well crafted anime intros back then.
@@1LERS1 It is not problem with how good is Yakuza (which is good as you said ), the problem is Sega Japan barerely do anything aside of Yakuza and Sonic. They should not only focus of this two franchises. If they started with Sakura Wars Rebot, why they just dropped balls with this franchise (again) ? They even not tried with porting ...
@@nr2676 Can't argue on that one. Don't know about recent sonic games, as I don't play them, but as for Yakuza, it brings SEGA money, so they spend time and money on that game to make it playable for wide audience. Sakura is a lot more of a niche series, and last game did poorly if I remember correctly, so it's no wonder that they are not doing anything with that franchise, which is a shame, at least for me.
@@1LERS1 Are you sure that sega made this game right? This game was rushed as hell, like Sonic 2006 or Sonic Forces. They should give this Ip not to Team Sonic (which they have now very bad reputation with developing games, last good game developed by Team Sonic was Sonic Colors in 2010) and Nagoshi, but to original creators and developer (Sega WoW - Valkyria Chronicles, Skies of Arcadia, Sakura Wars 1-5, Shinobi). And only one underperforming sales and they already give up ? Without even trying porting game into other platforms ? No wonder if PS4 game sold poorly outside of Japan (in Japan + Asia game sold in 300 000 copies , 2x better than SW5 and bit better than Sakura Wars 4 and Lost Judgement, those numbers are definitely not flop in Japan), if you release a game who is mostly Visual Novel only on PS4 in the same month with Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Trials of Mana Remake, when Visual Novel audience is mostly on Switch and Steam, especially in Japan (Playstation was never a good platform for VN games). Secondary, PS4 game is worst game in series (nearly all elements and changes are bad compared to previous games), and this game alienate old fanbase in Japan. Mobile gacha had literaly no corelation with Sakura Wars franchise. Yakuza was far more niche series in PS2/PS3 era than Sakura Wars and look how Kiwami treatement helped with IP recognization on West. Instead of that gacha game Sega should spend those money on remasters and localizations of older games. I read japanese forums, and most of them want just port Sakura Wars 1-5 on Switch.
+DengrayKai211 That would be Bernie Stolar who basically vetoed a majority of the Saturns 2D games and JRPGs just as FF7 had started the craze here in North America as being Low Quality
Well, Bernard Stolar. but translating the Sakura Wars games would have been an enormous task as they were extremely text-heavy and had a lot of voiceover work done. Not to mention it was two discs, making it more expensive to publish. What didn't help was the fact Sakura Wars 2-4 all came at the end of their systems' lifespans. At least we got Sakura Wars V on PS2 and Wii.
