I like this performance, a joyful one. Nice to hear the syncopating so clearly and of course the trill on the tuba and even seeing it, as well as the double rythm ( triols on four square) near the end .

I have since my last comment listened to every performance of the Prelude that I could find. This is the only performance (with the exception of the Polish National Symphony) that brings out the qualities of love, joy and warmth. I have possessed the score for the last 50 years. I find that Wagner was, I think careless in articulating his score causing it to mistakenly be played in an overly incisive and choppy manner. As a composer myself I know how easy it to write you score thinking how you want it be heard rather than indicating precisely what you intend. From Wagner's own testimony we know this piece was in an extremely hasty manner (one day only he says). There is school of though that says we must honor the composer's intentions by playing exactly what is written on the page. This is short sighted and shows no comprehension of what composers actually go through and a belief that composers achieve what they do because they are god-like. No it's hard work. The genius is being willing to get up in the morning and working hard all day!
