    That is not anti scientific, it's just showing the monopoly created by Monsanto.

      Uhhhh what monopoly? Syngenta, Bayer, DuPont, BASF and Dow sure would be shocked at Monsanto's monopoly. Especially Syngenta who actually has more of the market than Monsanto... they would be real shocked to hear the news.

      No actually it is the only company that creates a venom which kills everything but their own GM plants. That alone is already dangerous.
      And them there is the seedless plants, they prevent people from having the plant at home.
      Get all that and add the bee problem witch is partially created by the use of those venoms and you have a potentially apocalyptic future.
      All in name of profit.

    Hey, you posted a video that both speaks to both conspiracy theorists and xenophobes. You guys killed 2 birds with one stone.
    By the way, you guys should probably learn how to science before you post these things.

    • @FunnyOrDie
      @FunnyOrDie  8 років тому +5

      Everything speaks to conspiracy theorists and xenophobes. They don't need help from us.
      Besides this is about labelling food and big companies with bad practices. Not anti science.

    • @billyvg5337
      @billyvg5337 8 років тому +9

      No, it is anti-science. Claiming things should be labeled is an admission of guilt, the way we label cigarettes and whatnot. Things that aren't dangerous aren't labeled and shouldn't be. That's misleading.
      But, you say conspiracy theorists don't need help from you, yet you're pandering to them and being as pro-conspiracy as possible. How many people at Funny or Die actually consulted real scientists before making this video? Probably none, considering that more scientists accept the safety of GMO's than believe in climate change, with 88% of scientists accepting the fact while 87% believe in climate change (1).
      You call Monsanto a monopoly, yet Monsanto isn't alone. They have competition from BASF, Syngenta, Dupont, Dow Chemical Company, and Bayer.
      You're not spreading the truth here. You're spreading junk science, fear, and conspiracies.

      in vast possible way of doing GMOs why did Mosanto made corn that produce pesticide? I don't know if it is being sold in market or not but I truly HATE this mindset & decision making. It's a red flag that they're untrustworthy. I know others is finding ways to make crop produce more, but this isn't what Mosanto did.

    Anyone in here claiming "anti-science" seems to have no idea how Monsanto's Glyphosate/Roundup and their coupled/patented one-time subscription seed service works. No-one who is sane is arguing Genetic-Modification Technology does not or cannot in principle work or improve agricultural yields, features, and become a great boon for humanity.
    The criticism lies in the specific practices of Monsanto, as a lawyer-capitalist agent. The legal, yet egregious business/lobbying/lawsuit activities of said company appears to target nothing less than total agricultural monopoly, stooping to regulatory lobbying as any share-holder-obligated entity is obligated to do.
    Neither are the not-skeptic-enough apparently aware of the WHO having classified Glyphosate, the company's leading and now prolific pesticide, as a likely human carcinogen, also likely implicated in Colony Collapse Disorder (currently disrupting one of the most vital agents of our vegetative and agricultural ecological systems - NOT THE BEES).
    Any claims of "low dose means no harm" are frought with unscientific assumptions and unwarranted claims, regarding our limited current knowledge and research as to actual physiological consequences of chronic exposure to the pesticide, as well as subtler neurological effects which are not measurable with LD50 rates and other tests which rely on gross measurements. There are a plethora of health concerns in the neurosciences in particular, where illnesses which merely debilitate the organism without killing it , are enough to warrant a cautious approach and skeptic attitude by favoring the rigorous application of the scientific method, in lieu of dogmatic recitation of the views of current "scientific establishment".
    A lack of currently available evidence of harm does not necessarily mean the particular application of the technology in some scenario is not or could not be harmful to various systems of ecological or physiological scope, where still insufficiently detailed standards of testing in the relevant domains seems possible if not plausible. Regulatory capture is also not beyond the pale of skeptics' suspicions, as a natural activity of maintaining or developing a profitable monopoly, which the United States in particular seems to have had a great deal of experience with in other sectors.

      While I suprisedly agree with your concerns and your points are reasonable (kudos for not calling anyone a shill) I still think Monsanto is getting way more hate than they deserve. Sure, noone wants the company to gain full control over food and agriculture, but the topic has become too polarizing to have a real discussion about it anywhere.
      Basically anyone who wants to attack GMO just points towards some shady (often made up) actions of Monsanto, and everyone who has to defend GMO has to defend the company while debunking the second best arguement: "Because it's not natural" invented after "Because Jesus said so".
      If you look at the comment section now, it's basically conspiracy people yelling sheeple and open your eyes while the other side are calling every sciencifically illiterate (though it feels like there is some truth to it).
      TLDR: people who defend Monsanto mostly just want to defend GMO against people who think GMO=Monsanto.

    What is sad is the same people who believe this and perpetuate the content are the first to take their kids to a doctor every time they have a runny nose. Then beg the doctor to prescribe antibiotics when rest and time will suffice. Not to mention the long list of cautions and potential side effects and overuse consequences. Sucker born everyday.

    Priceless! You all rock! Now, back to my organic farm. Pray I don't get sued for patent infringement, should my neighbor's GMO corn seeds pollute my organic crops. Guess I'll have to kill myself, like those small farmers in India did, when their GMO crops failed. Or, maybe I could get a job as a Monsanto corporate shill. Mama Mia!

    • @No-hf1xq
      @No-hf1xq 8 років тому +1

      Actually that suing with the neighbour's GMO never happened. The closest thing that happened to it was a farmer, who deliberately started cultivating the "blown over" seeds without ever purcashing a patent. If you want to read the full story here's an article about it (the relevant part is after the first picture) www.geneticliteracyproject.org/2015/12/15/gmo-patent-controversy-2-supreme-court-cases-farmers-bowman-schmeiser/
      As for the indian farmers, here's a shorter writing that raises a few points about why Monsanto didn't kill the farmers (TL.DR: They turned to illegal private money lenders who charged insane interest rates and people went bankrupt) io9.gizmodo.com/the-gmo-mass-suicides-are-a-myth-1565342067

    Monsanto does not function much different than any other corporation...but I don't care so much about talking shit of corps. What's worse is how anti-science this video is.
    GMOs are incredibly misunderstood by the public, and unjustly vilified.

      So the only studies you've seen are the positive ones Monsanto used to get approval. You didn't see the negative ones because they never saw the light of day, and you didn't see the FDA ones, because they were never done... A nice, balanced viewpoint then...
      Of course, Monsanto are just like any other company... just ask the residents of Anniston, Nitro or Vietnam.

      The replies, on the other hand, completely anihalated any faith in humanity I had left.

    • @Airehcaz
      @Airehcaz 8 років тому

      +cojanti Look man, corporations exist for some specific reasons and have allowed for the allocation of immense resources, with which many advances and breakthroughs have been made possible (in many fields, not just the sciences). However, innate to corporations is the goal to increase revenue and decrease cost, thereby maximizing profits for shareholders. In this way, Monsanto is like every other corporation.
      I don't care if it is financially successful, same wth their competitors Dow, Syngenta, DuPonte, and others.
      What I do care about is the science, and what is true. I care about the millions of people that don't understand what a GMO even is. I care about the misinformation being spread (not by this video necessarily, it's just a poor attempt at comedy) which leads to a huge number of people to condemn genetic modification, categorically.
      There's my beef, the categorical rejection of GM anything. The ignorance-based idea that any genetic modification is inherently dangerous.
