    Nap you are such a perfectionist. There have been YT tutorials on Marley/Havana twists for 3-4 years. But yours actually look like your own twists when your hair was longer. This is the most natural looking I've ever seen. Maybe it is because you combined textures/combed them out and then moisturized the hair. The sheen is spot on.

    Suggestions for Whit if she does this style again or anyone else ☺️ You don't have to burn your ends! You can seal them with hot water! Also, if you want you can put curlers on the end as you dip them in the hot water and they'll have cute little curl to them when you're done if you're interested in that. Most importantly dipping the twists in the hot water gives them movement immediately. So even if you prefer to burn the ends still dip your hair in hot water and you'll have movement! This video was awesome though! I'm so happy to see Whit experimenting with protective styles where you add hair! I usually get mine done at the shop if I have to have hair added, but maybe next time I'll try it myself!

    Thank you so much for your tips on washing the Cuban hair with apple cider vinegar, and putting shea butter on the hair. I have a wig with a texture that's very similar to the Cuban hair, and wearing a rough itchy wig all day is no fun! Thanks to your tips, it's no longer itchy, and the hair feels softer; more like my natural hair. In fact, it blends so well with my natural hair that people think it's mine :-) they want to know how I grew my hair out!

    I do these twists very often and I can tell you that it gets quicker each time you put them in. I would say to NOT spray a lot of water mixture on your natural hair before installing the twists, as that can promote mold growth because the hair can't really dry quickly twisted up (also, if your hair is fine and curly like mine, it can be harder to install the twists on damp hair because the synthetic hair keeps falling out :P). And PLEASE, ladies, keep moisturizing your natural hair while wearing protective styles! Speaking from experience, you do NOT want to have more breakage while protecting from breakage :)

    • @mochagrl78
      @mochagrl78 6 років тому +2

      I was going to ask the question regarding installing on damp hair or dry hair because a lot of tutorials say to not wet the hair.

    • @amandab6910
      @amandab6910 5 років тому +1

      I never wet synthetic hair while installing due to statement you made about mold/mildew. Never thought to wash the hair before installing.

You've taught me to love my hair and the tips I need to keep my hair healthy. You are a strong black woman who sets such a great example for the black women around you. You use your platform to advocate for black women and black girls, and it is truly uplifting. I appreciate your love for the things around you and I appreciate what you have taught me as a black woman.

    Just want to thank you, you're an awesome teacher. I SUCK at doing my natural hair which is why I paid a professional to install my marley twists. I was actually going back in so she could reinstall the few that have slipped out over time.. but after watching this video, I went into the bathroom and tried to reinstall one twist myself and bam, I did it! I think I'll cancel my retouch appointment. :) THANK YOU!

    This looks great on you Whit but I must say, with love of course... doing the natural method at the roots just to end up burning the ends of the hair doesn't really make sense. The whole point is for the twist to look like your natural hair from roots to ends. I'm sure someone else has said it already, but next time you try this style just simply curl the ends around small sized perm rods and dip in boiling hot water.
    Actually, I'd suggest dipping a 3rd of the length into hot water in order to soften the synthetic hair and make it more flexible. I remember the African hairstylist always doing that to my twist and braids back in the day. Besides, this is winter time, those burned ends are going to pull the heck out of your sweaters.
    Again, I give this bit of advice with love =}

      +Carefree Maya This. I stopped bothering with people who I know braid too tight. You grow up hearing that you're "tenderheaded" when the real problem is that black hair can't just be combed through with a small-toothed comb like a rag and you should be gentle to avoid unnecessary breakage. You learn when you're natural and doing your own hair, but most black women still don't get that (especially the older generation).

    • @Peoplehatethetruth

      +Zanya Carey you got that right, since I got natural I learned how to do my hair. I didn't like to comb my hair as a relaxer, but ever since I became natural, the interests of taking care of my hair awakened. sometimes is hard to deal with, but is very satisfactory to be able to say: I did it

      Hey Whitney! (Love that screen shot girl, gotta share this on my Google+ page lol!!) I, like countless others have been waiting for this tutorial since that FB post and Yippee Yay here it is, oh I love twists! "Yaaassss" lol I crack up whenever you Ladies of the Tube say that, lol!!! But yeah you can not give up on your dreams we need you, your fabulous hair, winning personality and crispy clear visuals, lol!! ...alright enough yapping and on with the video ( I was talking about myself of course, lol) you can do a 15 minute yap intro and it's fine by me, lol!!
      Ok pushing play...I like how you're putting your new table to good use. Okay this is new I haven't done synthetic hair in a long time and when I did it was always a 1.99 pack of Kanekalon and I let the salon put it in, I would have never know you can add hair crèmes or butters to weave...man there's so much weave out there Marley twists, Havana twists, Cuban, Cubana-hana Nights Twists, lol and it looks so real, I really have to get some! I seen this method once before from Carmen of MyNaturalSistas and it looks like the best way to install your extension twists. I can't wait to try this, I love protective styling but when weave is added, it just means I can really leave my hair alone. Oddly enough I don't mind the 10 hour installation, I have a ton of patience and because it takes me around the same time to do my micro mini twists once a year. What a cool technique, I can't wait to try this, I might not get it on the first try but just like flat twisting practice makes perfect. Oh this is just too pretty and fabulous, my mouth is open, like I wish that was my hair right now, lol...they look extremely real Whitney, well done girl! Another A+++ Top Notch video and tutorial, thanks for sharing and have a wonderful upcoming week everyone : )

    I'm too afraid to burn the ends. I'm such a klutz I'd be the chick who set herself on fire. You can seal the ends by dipping them in boiling water? Right? Hmmm setting my head on fire or getting scalded....the latter seems more survivable.

    • @maxedout27
      @maxedout27 9 років тому +6

      Yes, dipping the ends seal. When I usually do this, I don't do anything to the ends and they stay just fine. However, if you cut it its better to burn or boil or even put a rubber band. Sometimes, I even just wrap the ends like they do on the faux locs.

    I'm using kankleion hair because it matches mine more closely in the aspect of texture. I hope it works out but if it dosen't i didn't miss out too much because i only spent $30 on all supplies. I'm also waiting till next weekend because this is my first time seriously doing my own hair. .. I'm so nervous, but I think I'm ready. it looks easy, but like a lot of work! on the plus side I don't have to unlearn anything and re-train myself for this. thanks Whitney, you fill me with so much confidence!

    Any tips on how to do the back of your head?

    • @BrittLoves2Laugh
      @BrittLoves2Laugh 9 років тому +12

      When I first started twisting/braiding my own hair I struggled with the back, too. So I started braiding those in. Only braiding about half an inch down, combining the 3 strands into 2 then twisting as she instructs.

      try a double mirror setup and tilt your head. when my arms are tired I lean all the way forward. almost upside down.

    • @LuvRocknLegs
      @LuvRocknLegs 9 років тому +12

      Sometimes I tilt my head forward, almost upside down and twist "up" towards the top of my head. It seemed to work a lot better.

    How do you moisturize your natural hair while in the twists?

    • @anydae
      @anydae 6 років тому +1

      Add water and oil (almond, coconut, olive, any one or all!!!) to a spray bottle that's empty and lightly spritz morning and night. You can also get a pre-mixed braid spray at the beauty supply store. Also wash hair with installed twists with diluted shampoo when necessary.

    • @Jaericlynn

      @@anydae shampooing would make my natural hair fro right up. 😞

    This will definitely help me inprove my own marley twists skills.
    I just used black/purple marley hair to do braids on my hair for the first time (since I was horrible with kanekalon). I love using marley hair, so I can't wait to try twists again.

Never thought to use the silkier hair along with the cuban twist hair...thanks!! I have done marley havana twists 3 times before but now I want to do them.
    Great tutorial!! If I do them I will definitely try your method. Thanks Whitney!! =)

    I put in Senegalese twists the day before Thanksgiving and there was alot of sweat n tears. Took me 3 days to finally get the look I was Goin for. I was so close to giving up but I'm so thrilled with my results. they look so natural. Wish I saw this tutorial before tho! would have saved me 2 days lol ugh

    Love that you prepped the hair extensions in addition to your natural hair. Smart move!!! I'm going to try this next time. I've been wearing these for a month,
    reinstalling every two weeks so that I can deep condition my own hair. They're awesome. Could you elaborate on the "ACD bath" for the extensions?
